The Purdue/Indiana winner and the Texas Tech/Baylor winner will get to six wins. 18 other teams trying to win #6 this weekend. 

 
FSU v UF also big as FSU tries to win #6 and keep the 36-year bowl streak alive.

On the Ringer site there is an article talking about how in 2019 there is going to be a crazy bidding war for Tua (Bama) because of the success of Mahomes and Goff, both spread guys.   Do you guys agree with this because I sure dont.  I have seen Bama play a handful of times and Tuo is amazing, simply amazing but a few things here.  He is playing with all 5 star guys and more importantly he appears really small to me on the field.  He is listed as 6'1 218 but there is no way he is that big.

So I guess my question is Tua going to be worth a crazy bidding war in a year and half?

What is this bidding war you are talking about?  I think he's very good and would go in the top 5 picks depending on team needs and other players in the draft.

Here is the article and it talks about multiple first round picks to move up for Tua.  The article in general mainly talks about the importance of a qb in modern NFL but again what stuck out was the hype on Tua.   I just dont see it honestly.  Not saying he is worthy of a day one pick but for a team to give so much away is hard to imagine.

It'll depend on the rest of the qb market.

Tua might be the 3rd QB in 2020 behind Fromm and Herbert (if he doesn't declare in 2019).   It almost always costs multiple first round picks to move up for a QB in the first round.

I wouldn't agree. Navy is on the recurring calendar like most, but USC is the linchpin team to ever get ND into a conference. If ND couldn't play USC to an agreed upon schedule, it's unlikely to move.

FWIW, ND has tried to join conferences (namely the Big Ten) multiple times and has been blocked when attempting to do so.

If you're saying they have tried to join the B1G under some kind of ACC arrangement where they get an insane deal, I won't argue. But they've certainly never attempted to do so as a full member, and no one would ever turn them down if so.

The ACC is not taking Navy just to appease ND.  ND will be able to play Navy in the non-conference just like GT plays Georgia, FSU plays Florida, Clemson plays SC, etc...   There's zero reason to share the pie with Navy.  

It's just a silly theory like the one where we were supposed to already have four 16-team conferences because you know symmetry.

In the last few years, that's correct. But I'm pretty sure its not correct historically. In the early 20th Century the Western Conference (predecessor to the Big Ten) boycotted Notre Dame and wouldn't let their teams play them or let them in the conference. Notre Dame wanted to. 

It was a mistake.

I've always thought the "M" thing was pretty stupid, but it's not unlike how the toolish fans for other schools refuse to say Ohio STATE, except that's fun all year round.

The discussion about Kansas and UCF football on the previous pages made me wonder about something:

If we were able to time travel forward 20 years ... what teams that are not now football powers are most likely to be national powers in 2038? Major reshuffling of the deck seems unlikely -- but who could vault way up there given two decades?

EDIT: "not now football powers" doesn't necessarily mean "rack up 10-loss seasons every year". Maybe it's squads that hover around 5 or 6 wins a lot of years, but occasionally break out with an 8-4 or 9-3 season here and there ... but they just can't sustain it.

Does that really have a chance to happen at the P5 level?  Success kind of builds on success since those schools keep pouring money into the program.  I guess someone like Nebraska could make a resurgence because football is important to them, but I think a lot of middlle of the road teams are likely to be content staying there.  Someone like Duke, IU, Arizona, etc...  they care, but they are about other stuff a lot more.  They may have a special season here or there, but they kind of just are who they are.

If you mean non-P5, well it’s whoever finds a great coach and then can maintain once they leave. Boise St cMe up under Hawkins and continued under Peterson and on and on. UCF had frost, now they’re maintaining under Buddy Lee and maybe it continues too.

I think college football will look quite a bit different in 20 years time.  I cannot imagine the conferences remain in current form.  And I also worry about the future of football in general because of safety reasons.  Numbers are down at the HS levels, at least in the PacNW.  Mommas don't want their babies to grow up chasing pigskins. 

What I'd really like to see is a model like professional soccer overseas.  Allow the mid-tier (whatever we call them) teams to join the ranks of the big boys by winning consistently and relegate the teams that are perennial losers.  Illinois does not belong playing Big10 football.  Neither does Rutgers.  Drop them down and elevate the winners of the MAC and some other mid major.  Kick Oregon State out of the Pac 12 and bring in Boise St or Fresno St.

Not a powerhouse nationally, but how about Texas State? San Marcos is a cool city - just south of Austin. Its in the middle of Texas - tons of recruits. If they got a good coach, they could pretty easily jump to the top of the Sun Belt. And then with the ever shifting NCAA landscape - who knows? Maybe the Big 12 needs to expand.

I think the most likely scenario is 64 or so teams break off and pay the players. Probably adopt the Olympic model. And then don't play the non-D1 teams.

Add in TTUN or TSUN or not allowing people to wear blue to your practices.  I get if the players/coaches refuse to say Michigan, it's part of the rivalry from Woody.  To have people X out the M's or not type Michigan is just stupid.  It bothers no (or very little at best) Michigan fans.  To have people in government do this is pretty laughable.  

The Ohio thing was funny because it did annoy Buckeye fans, but that was Hoke's thing and is not heard that much anymore.  The whole 'THE' thing annoys America, but IMO, it's kind of like "The U", acceptable, just not as cool.

They have absolutely tried multiple times historically to petition as a full member of the Big Ten and were black balled every time by Michigan. 

It’s one of the main reasons for the rivalry, let alone the proximity. ND finally gave up after trying a few times and decided to schedule nationally and play up the “religious school” stigma others tried to lay at their feet and it blew up in the faces of the others and led to ND’s huge following.

Give us at least a few years of getting full B1G revenues before giving us the boot. There's too much talent in the state for the combination of the right coach and the right resources to not do the trick. You had two Jersey kids go in the top 11 of this year's draft, and three first rounders the year before. Not to mention there isn't another P5 school anywhere close to directly compete with.

I photographed Ohio Stadium last Thanksgiving Day, and they did it to the plaques  on the stadium and signs on campus.

(Yes, I realize I'm outing my real name here.)

Great pics...I love the calm before the storm pics of a beautiful stadium...I've been to a game at most SEC venues and several of the B12 and P12 key stadiums...need to work in more B1G.

regarding conference expansion. the criteria is:

1) money - how much of it can we make

2) leverage - how much of it can the committee that makes these decisions hold over the school

3) personality - is there any existing beef, personal squabble, petty spat between enough members of the committee and members of the prospective school/alumni base

but it's money first, money now, money forever. and then the other two are simply minor stumbling blocks depending on the money.

got to make sure to grease the right wheels and anything can get done.
