2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

Who do you want?  You’ve got to go somewhat young and let them go through the growing pains of turning your offense into something completely different.

As an aside, Im sitting outside with the dog and today is probably the best weather day of the year in GA.
Anyone patient enough to build it back.  And run something recruits want to play in.

Kelly Bryant leaving Clemson. New transfer rule is amazing.
Maybe I shouldn't but props to Dabo who could have waited one more week before making the change eliminating all of Bryant's options.  So since Bryant only played 4 games this year, this will count as his redshirt year?   And he will play as a graduate transfer somewhere else next year?

Props to Dabo for sure. They had to have known this was a strong possibility.

Yes and yes on the last two questions. The new redshirt rule lets him keep a year of eligibility, and the graduate transfer rule allows him to play next year.

Dabo commented yesterday that he made this decision to start Lawrence and be up front with Bryant so he could figure out what he wanted to do. Our depth is now leeeeean, I think Hunter Renfrow is now our 3rd stringer.  Lawrence has now directly influenced 4 QBs to transfer in the past 6 months.

Of course if he hosed over Bryant that could haunt him the next time he recruits a blue chip QB.

Sure wish Hunter Johnson was here to back up Lawrence.  Sucks but it's good that Dabo was up front with Bryant.  Hope TL stays healthy.

I’m having trouble seeing how they get to four wins.  Is this it for Johnson?
You need someone who will get away from the triple option.  It was great in the 80s and for teams like the service academies.  But with the speed and strength of today's top defensive teams, it just isn't a viable offense.  QBs that Johnson recruits are athletic and can run it, but they often aren't great passers.  Those guys don't want to go to that offense.  Tough spot to be in for GTech fans, imo.  Time for Johnson to retire or go to a smaller division team that would have success with the option.

Time for G. Tech to go in a different direction.

Maybe they will actually move on this year and the new coach can bring in Kelly Bryant for a year to transition to a normal offense.

It's an interesting cross roads for Georgia Tech and if Johnson moves on (or they move on from him) what direction does this school go?  The 'hot' coaches at the moment (from what I'm reading) are Lance Leipold of Buffalo, Dino Barbers of Syracuse, Jason Candle of Toledo and Seth Littrell of North Texas.  I'm sure I'm missing a few and these guys could crash back down to earth, but these are the guys generating buzz right now.  Are any of those guys a good fit for a school in Georgia?  I don't know how relevant that is in this day and age, but recruiting is huge and if you don't know the deep south, how will you do in a career that requires you to be right, right away?

Or does G. Tech pluck the hot new assistant from 'Bama or another major program having sustained success?  Worked so far for Georgia and Kirby Smart, but hasn't always worked out in the past.

Or, does your school go get a retread with warts like Kiffen or Sarkisian.  I'm sure Chip Kelly will be available soon at the rate he's going. :)

Bryant would be a fine QB to transition into a more traditional offense.  But him running that option would be a down grade from Marshall, imo.  Kelly isn't fast enough to execute it efficiently.

He's too smart to play for Paul Johnson.  But he would be the perfect guy for a new coach to have for a year while a high school kid redshirts and learns.  I just hope we get to find out I'm so tired of Johnson's nonsense.  The 3O can be fun a few times a year but it's so awful when you fall behind and look like a middle school flag football team trying to complete passes.

@General Malaise I have no idea who GT would be interested in if they make a change.  @AAABatteries might follow rumor mills much more closely than I do but I never saw the Johnson hire, Josh Pastner hire, or even the Chan Gailey hire coming (and they had Will Muschamp pretty much hired until some high rollers went nuts because he's a UGA guy).

By the way, besides the crap W/L record here's a big reason I think we actually could make a change.  This was a home game Saturday against Clemson.

Crazy to think the 2 QBs that led their teams to the National Championship game last year got benched and will transfer.
I saw Lawrence as a sophomore at Cartersville  play live - he could have started for Clemson or any SEC school that day.

Someone leaving OKState?

@Joey_Senat: An OSU SID, on behalf of coach Mike Gundy, threatened the press corps with the loss of player availability for the rest of the season if any one of them asked players Tuesday about a player's departure this week. @spj_tweets @APSE_sportmedia @rcfp @collegemedia @1stAmendmentCtr

Their top(ish?) receiver announced he was transferring a few days ago.

Oregon and Clemson are the favorites for the top rated 2020 QB out of CA.  I have to believe this helps Oregon's chances.
What’s the name?  I don’t follow recruiting too closely, but I know there’s a top 2020 kid we’re in on, but that he’s 99% MLB regardless.
