2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

you really think they would win the B10 east??
This year? ND beat Michigan and tOSU lost by 29 at Purdue. The Big Ten east wasn’t a bunch of world beaters this year.

Most years ND has a top ten SOS, so no idea what conference fanboys are so mad about. ND still hasn’t played a single FCS team, which most conference teams do annually.

The way OSU wooped up on Michigan, they would've done the same to ND in a championship game.   It comes down to top end talent and ND has little.

It's all talk until ND proves it in a conference championship game.

Someone on the team better have a fake girlfriend again. Unfocused and scared play, especially by the offense.

Ha - this is rich. ND just smacked the crap out of FSU this year and you bring this up. Carry on.
That’s true.

What is also true is that unless CFB goes back to only letting white guys play and the wing-T being the pinnacle of offense, Notre Dame will never win a national title again.

Break out your 1938 national champs t-shirt to feel better tonight.

I don't give a crap about ND but this is so dumb.  Just look at the whole schedule and resume.   They played plenty of good teams and beat them all.  Michigan (which is OSU's signature win by the way), Syracuse, Northwestern, Stanford, Vandy, Wake, Va. Tech, USC, and Pittsburgh.

OSU didn't deserve to get in by beating Michigan. If ND had beaten OSU in the B1G Championship, then that would have significantly helped their resume.

The big question for me is why ND cannot figure out how to properly prepare for a bowl game.

A consistent across multiple coaches has been the inability to appropriately prepare for the post season.

It was actually a down year schedule wise b/c a bunch of teams (stanford, usc, fsu, va tech) under-performed, but the same thing could happen if they were in a conference.  Its not like they or a bunch of other teams couldn't have won the Pac12.  I don't see how that carries any additional weight.    Just increase to playoffs to 8 already.  You're going to have some blowouts in that case and this would've just been one of them.

Do you think it's a conspiracy or just coincidence?

Down years are exactly why a team should be required to win a championship game to get into the playoff. The team they play in the championship didn't have a down year.

There are blowouts every year in the 4 team playoff.

2014-15:  Oregon beat FSU by 39

2015-16:  Clemson beat Oklahoma by 20 and Alabama beat Michigan State by 38

2016-17.  Clemson beat Ohio State by 31 and Alabama beat Washington by 17

2017-18:  Alabama beat Clemson by 18

This is the 9th semi-final game since the playoff started and the 7th one decided by 17 points.  The two exceptions were Georgia/Oklahoma last year and Ohio State/Alabama in 2014-15.   Everyone whining about Notre Dame "not belonging" because Clemson is rolling them has a short memory.

You seriously make no sense. The only engagement I had with you was to stop living in the past. And to make it even better you took the time tonight to go quote that engagement since ND is getting destroyed by Clemson, a way better team. And now you are telling me to get a 1938 t-shirt out, something way in the past. I never said ND was going to win this year, or any year. Go back and look, I simply said if you want to live in the past......ND > FSU.

My god Northwestern was winless outside of the Big Ten this year.  Ohio State certainly beat what looks like a down team in the B1G championship.   Pittsburgh wasn't much better in the ACCCG.   This fascination with championship games is dumb.  Just look at the whole resume like Notre Dame beating Michigan while Ohio State is playing Directional Illinois in September.

Do you think it's a conspiracy or just coincidence?
Where did I ever claim a conspiracy? Nice straw man.

Im suggesting ND has to internally figure that one out. Kelly has shown inability to be ready twice now. Something has to change with what they think works.

Yeah, Pittsburgh had a up year this year.

Out of the now 13 playoff games, 6 have been decided by 20+. It's ok to admit Bama and Clemson are head and shoulders above the rest. Let's all take a deep breath before we get to the hot takes that this game is an outlier.

My point is you throw them in the Big10, there's nothing to stop them from winning that in a few years once OSU regresses now that Meyer is leaving.  Its not like they couldn't feasibly beat the rest of the teams especially if they're in the West.   They're still in the playoffs and they still get blown out.   Or if they were hypothetically in the Pac12 this year.   There's no one stopping them there either.  They still have the win the games, but its the same SOS they're playing in what was a down year.

PITT and NW did have UP years. Beating them was more significant than beating FSU in a down year. But more importantly, NW would not have won the B1G west this year if ND was in the B1G.

But those teams won conference championships probably against really over-matched opponents which makes it all legitimate some how.

You said it was across multiple coaches, right? Or did I quote the wrong guy?

So, are they cursed? Everyone against them? What? If it's just Kelly, that's cool.

Yeah that isn’t the reason at all. Would beating Northwestern again have impressed you? Or how about Pitt?
Put them in the ACC and this game would have been the conference championship. They are already 75% there just get it over with

So the safety ND has that came over from Navy...  do you have to serve in the Navy after going there normally?  How does that work if you transfer?

Yeah. They mentioned earlier he transfered as he has dreams of playing in the NFL and didn't want to fulfil his duty to serve if he stayed at Navy.

Fun fact. More than likely ND is going to get beat by 27 tonight as an 11-13 point underdog.

Yet, here we are with an OSU fan complaining after getting beat to a team by 29 as the favoritr..the same team who just lost by 49 in the bowl game. And a FSU talking trash in a year to me with absolutely no right to be doing so, especially since ND and FSU played each other.

i hope 2019 brings some common sense to humanity.
