2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

Yeah the PJ schedule.

ACC definitely gave Clemson the best possible schedule - they know who the cash cow is now.

Open with GT on a Thursday, giving extra time before aTm

Byes before FSU and UofSC

Wofford before @NCSt
Going to Syracuse the week after A&M early in the season won't be easy.  And Clemson doesn't play a cupcake early either (hold the GT jokes, please!).

Apparently Lincoln Riley is stopping one of his QB from transferring to WVU as a graduate transfer at the same time he's recruiting Jalen Hurts to come to Oklahoma as a graduate transfer.   Bad look, if true.
Until they change the rules it’s a strategic decision. I don’t care for it myself but Kendall can go anywhere except within the Big 12.

I think Fields was who he had in mind when that statement was made.

Rattler won't even be in Norman until this summer so it was always going to be tough for 2019. Riley isn't an idiot, I'm sure he talked this over with Rattler at some point this month.

If bringing in Hurts was going to jeopardize the relationship with Rattler it wouldn't be happening. They are not on the same level and you only get Hurts for one year anyhow.
OU is gonna have three scholarship QBs next year. mordecai will be the backup, Rattler will be on a redshirt program. Not much room for error there, Rattler gonna get a shot sooner than later.

Plus why not learn from Hurts? He’s got rings and things, and one year on the sideline under Riley is worth its weight in gold. Win, win and Mordecai might be the guy anyway.

Small school in South Carolina - Panthers do (did?) hold their training camp there.

Clemson and SCar generally rotate the small SC schools around to fill a week and give them a nice windfall to their athletic budgets. Wofford, Forman, Coastal Carolina, SC State, Citadel, etc...  Of course sometimes playing these gimme games can be tough for some teams.

The Citadel has beaten SCar.

2 of the past 3 meetings.
Ohio does that for most of the smaller schools in state...except for Youngstown State (yes, I realize they're FCS).

“Where the F#$% is Dan?!?”

Several of the staffers knew the answer to their boss’ question. Word had already spread that the 50-year-old Enos was headed to Miami to become offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Manny Diaz. No one in the room wanted to be the one to break that news to Saban, even though Miami was primed to announce it in a couple hours.

One staffer scrambled to check if Enos was in his office. It was empty, save for a pencil on the desk. Maybe he’d already moved into [current Maryland head coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike] Locksley’s old office, but that one was empty too.

:lmao:

I mean, this makes me super happy, because eff Saban.  On the other hand, seems like a bad idea to burn bridges with any good coach, let alone the best ever.

Probably because they don't play Alabama.

#9 overall and #1 2019 athlete Bru McCoy has announced after 2 whole weeks at USC that he has entered the transfer portal.  Man, this portal madness is crazy.  Hasn't even been to a practice yet.

Why would anyone sign in December right in the middle of coaches getting fired, coaches leaving for other jobs, and crap like that?  Most of that gets sorted out by early February.

It is kind of dumb, but I think he’s an early enrollee?  Is this for sure a coaching thing or maybe he just got on campus and didn’t like it there?

One report has Bru leaving USC for Texas where he'll have to sit out a year since he signed a letter of intent to USC.  The reason the report said was because of Kingsbury leaving.

I thought at the HS all star game where he put on the USC hat he was merely verbally committing to USC.  Thought they didn't actually sign a letter of intent until Feb.  ?

Edit to add:  He had already signed his letter of intent to USC prior to that game.

If he didn't turn in his LOI by the early signing day deadline, he has to wait until February.

Guess he should have waited.  Weren't there rumors of KK leaving USC for the NFL since early Jan/late Dec?   Wonder how he feels about sitting out a year for signing the LOI so soon.

Which all star game was it?  The Under Armor game?  That was after the early signing period.

He has enrolled though, right?  Like he was on campus?  I’d guess he’d have to sign scholarship papers to start.

Yeah, the game was after the early signing period.  I just wonder why he (and his family) were in such a hurry to commit when they had plenty of time and it wasn't like USC was going to change their mind and pull back the offer.

Yes, I think this is the case.  He signed his letter of intent during the early signing period.  Think this is why he'll now have to sit a year wherever he transfers.  Wouldn't mind him giving Clemson a visit.

Of course I’d love a visit, but I don’t see that in the cards. We’re pretty full at WR right now anyway tbh. Ross and Kendrick will both be a sophomores and were 5 stars, Tee Higgins still has a year, and we also grabbed two more top 50 overall guys at WR with Ngata and Ladsen.

Has anyone seen a study on rates of domestic abuse for football vs other sports vs “normal” population. I’m curious if there’s a correlation between a sport that teaches aggression at all levels and the occurrences. It just seems like there’s a switch that we’re constantly flipping on and off and then shocked when someone can’t turn it off later on.

I’m in no way justifying what Francois did, more just wondering if there are issues inherent to the type of game being played that are exacerbating these types of behaviors.

how many random news stories do you read about regular people abusing their spouses?

https://www.google.com/search?q=rates+of+domestic+violence+by+state&rlz=1CAACAR_enUS725US731&oq=rates+of+domestic&aqs=chrome.4.0j69i57j0l4.4861j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

safe to say there are probably millions of incidents of domestic violence every year. most of them not by football players, i'd guess.

Well obviously there are more by non football players convicted of domestic abuse, there’s well over 300M non football players in the US. I’m talking about by percentage. If it’s something like a 4% rate among football players and a 2% rate among the general population, that’s an enormous gap.

I convicted him in my mind immediately.  Shame on me for falling into our culture's current "guilty until proven innocent" mentality.  Maybe he IS guilty.  I still hate what we have become.
Oh come on. There’s audio where she says stop hitting my face and he replies something like I’m going to keep hitting you in your face until you learn. She’s covering for him.
