2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

Sconnie fans for the most part are spoiled by the likes of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers and expect their 18-22 year olds to be the same. Hornibrook was/is a solid QB for what the Badgers asked of him. Much like Joel Stave (who ended his career with a number of Wisconsin records) he deserved some valid criticism but was overall an "OK" quarterback. Career clipboard holder in the CFL.

I'm sure Graham Mertz will be draw no ire after his first interception /rational thought

PS oh hey @Capella enjoy polishing this turd

Well if he ever has to play we’re screwed anyways so

The gift that keeps on giving... :lmao:

Former Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith – who, along with his wife Courtney – was the central figure behind Urban Meyer’s suspension is planning on releasing a podcast called Menace 2 Society.

Smith took to Twitter to announce the new venture, noting that it will serve as his way to “get the truth out,” and that “no one is safe.”

https://twitter.com/CoachZachSmith/status/1111048527449411586

In the video, Smith shares:

“Anyone that knows me knew that this was coming. That this podcast was coming, or something of this sort was going to happen.”

“So, I’ve been held accountable for the things that I did. I have also been held accountable for things that I didn’t do. So now it’s time for me to voice my opinion. The facts. The truth…that people don’t want you to know because EVERYONE is going to be held accountable for their actions. For things that they actually did.”

“No one is safe. I don’t care about anybody. Everyone is going to know what really happened.”

Parties who might or might not be interested in what Smith has to say include Brett McMurphy, Tom & Michelle Herman, Urban Meyer, Gene Smith and well, much of Buckeye Nation to be honest (might even get some listens from the great state of Michigan).

Evans might still make it and up the 5-star count to 5.”

I know people are expecting the Ukele to commit among others. 🎸

Ukele?  I assume you mean Uiagalelei?  I think it is down to Clemson and Oregon and I don't believe he commits to Clemson before his visit to the Oregon spring game.

Yeah it gave me an autocorrect. I really don’t follow so maybe not, but he was at the title game and apparently they’ve been in town getting mom’s approval since Monday.

It may be a moot point anyways if he gets drafted high in baseball and decides to take the money.  It wouldn't shock me if he committed to Clemson at the spring game but with Herbert leaving after this year the opportunity to play as a freshman is better.  Also, being from the west coast and having friends at Oregon may help.  I'd say 70% Clemson 30% Oregon if I had to guess at this point from what I have heard.

Nothing really new, but Nebraska's spring game attendance today was 85,946.  More importantly....  They won.

So he paid Maybin's dad 10 racks to encourage his son to do something he didn't do, and then the dad paid the money back?

Shocking...right up there with Nassar at MSU.
So... who cares apparently?  At what point do fans of their school finally say, "Man, my school is a complete disgrace." instead of just ignoring it like it's no big deal?

There's no foul insofar as Maybin is concerned; he may not have even known about the payout. If you want to talk about the assistant coach being dirty, I can have that discussion.

Paying players is not dirty. It’s a dumb rule instituted by a dumb organization that wants to control its player base under the guise of amateurism and people lap it up like it is one of the Ten Commandments. Every team should be giving players money and I hope FSU increases their payouts so we don’t ever go through another season like that again.

For the 2nd straight year, my retired mom and her husband park the boat in a cove right off the course where the coaches convention is taking place and hung out for a few hours...

Clemson landed top QB and a 5 star RB this week. I think I saw one five star commit by entire 4 years there (Roscoe Crosby) and he barely played.

No, I haven't been to a game in about 3 years,  and don't expect to be back until Malzahn is gone.

There are no "very good teams" in the Pac-12.

That said, I expect Oregon to win that game handily.
Not sure if I am going yet.  I hope it is a good game but I have a feeling Auburn wins.

What are the chances Mario actually has the team ready to play?  I say next to none.  Might have to take Auburn 1H regardless of price.

Weird feeling in that I have more faith in our defense than offense.  I hope a few of these new stud receivers step up quickly.

I do too.  And hope losing Leavitt isn't the kiss of death.  My Ducks homer buddies have unwavering faith in Mario and think he's building Bama West and make fun of me when I voice concerns about his coaching because of the Boise bowl game debacle and Arizona last year (both times just coming out WOEFULLY unready to play).  I think he's a great recruiter and...that's it.  Hope I'm wrong.

This is ... not smart by Florida -

Chris Steele leaving UF: Details on decision by Gators’ top recruit

Florida freshman cornerback Chris Steele is transferring from the school.

The former five-star recruit has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. Steele met with UF coach Dan Mullen on Wednesday night and informed him, a source close to the situation told The Sun.

The decision stems from a request Steele made to the staff during his first month on campus, the source said. He asked to be moved to a different dorm because he was uncomfortable rooming with quarterback Jalon Jones, his classmate.

The staff did not plan to move Steele until the summer, which upset Steele and his parents, according to the source.

Then two female students accused Jones of sexual assault in the players’ dorm rooms on April 6. That prompted Steele to seek a transfer.

Jones has not been charged but has left the school.

Regarding Steele’s decision to transfer, the Florida football program had no official comment on Thursday.

Steele committed to the Gators at the All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 and enrolled early the following week. He received first-time reps in the spring and was expected to make an immediate impact this season.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Steele was the highest-rated recruit in UF’s 2019 class, earning a consensus top-50 ranking and a five-star rating from Rivals.com.

He was Florida’s first California signee since 2010, hailing from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.

Maybe DJ Uiagalelei will reach out to his HS teammate Chris Steele and tempt him to transfer to Clemson.  That would be cool.

Man, you're NEVER negative on the Ducks!

I agree.  Until or unless Oregon can prove they can beat the top tier teams of the SEC, I remain skeptical.  Games are won in the trenches against the big boys and I've never seen the Ducks able to do that in the past.  Maybe this year is different, but I'm going to be laying a large wager against.

I think it is Auburn favored by 3.  Even though I think Auburn probably wins, I would never bet against a team I am rooting for.  🙂  However, I almost never bet on sports unless I happen to be in Vegas.

I'm a soulless degenerate. :bag:
Actually betting against the Ducks is the way to go for me.  I find exactly the right dollar figure that I'm willing to pay for a Ducks win, but that will also take away some of the sting if they lose.  So I'll be on Auburn 1st half just based on my feelings about Mario, but also Auburn full game moneyline as the emotional hedge.
