2018 MLB Regular Season Thread! Current thread batting average: .420 (1 Viewer)

David Ortiz not only getting his # retired today, but had a street and an airport gate named in his honor this week, because why not.

Michael Kay just said stat I can't believe. Today's pitchers duel between tanaka and darvish was only the 2nd time in history that both pitchers threw at least 7ip, allowing 0 runs and 9+ strikeouts. That can't be possible can it?

Here's a tweet about it...

This is 2nd MLB game in last 100 yrs where each starter allowed 0 R, 3 H or fewer and had 9+ K. Other: Aug. 26, 1968 Senators-Twins

Random note...best personality in the league outside the lines (all team high level sample)...George Springer.

James Shields making all kinds of history today.

Recorded his 2,000th career strikeout and within the first 3 innings has given up first career HRs to 3 different A's.

Adeiny Hechavarria to the Rays for two minor leaguers:  an AA OF and an A-ball SP.  I guess Hechavarria is a nominal upgrade over Tim Beckham and is affordable for the next year and a half.

I would rag on the Marlins but they're 8 1/2 games up on the Giants.

Guess Matt Duffy is dead

I'm curious to see what the Yankees do next.  They're closer to the luxury tax threshold this year than they've been since it was instituted in 2003.  The current agreement penalizes repeat offenders but the AL is tight enough that the Yankees seem like obvious buyers at the deadline.

They have $76M coming off the books next year w/ CC, Arod, McCann, Holliday, Pineda and Clippard but it's hard to imagine the Yankees with a payroll not among the biggest in baseball.

More Maddon Magic / Dumb Luck as he inserts Contreras into the leadoff spot, first time in his professional career, and he of course goes yard.

First Dodger Stadium visit last night.  Was with a buddy who has been a Dodger fans since the '70s and had never seen them play live ... anywhere. If I never have a son, at least I can say I took a little kid to his first Dodgers game.

Angel Stadium tomorrow night. Then possible thread ranking my stadiums through the years.

Dodgers fans somehow just managed to unfurl a giant LA banner in the bleachers in RF. Spanned two sections.

I shudder to think of the death toll if that were attempted in many other MLB parks.

Cubs DFA Montero after he rips Arrieta
Joe was talking about players always being held accountable and responsible to teammates. I wonder what his right-hand man Dave Martinez thought about that, and if his mind flashed back to thirty years ago and Mrs. Ryne Sandberg--allegedly
