2018 NHL Offseason Thread: E.Karlsson is a Shark! (1 Viewer)

NBC Wednesday Night Hockey is doing... lots of smart things?

  • No more 'rivalry night'
  • More games
  • 17 double headers
  • More teams covered including emphasizing cities like Vegas and Nashville
  • Way more west coast teams
  • Not shying away from Canada (including showing an all Canada Toronto/Winnipeg game because they're good)
  • Moving studio from city to city like College Gameday.

At a minimum, please add SOG to the telecast. In the days of deep analytics you’d think they could put a few stats on the screen.  :wall:

Preds lock Ellis up for 8years/50M.

Pretty torn about it, tbh. Assuming Josi gets a nice contract (9ish?) That's a ton of cap space to the top 4 D. Can't imagine that's sustainable. With the NTC, makes me feel like Ellis or Josi will be traded, or they'll lose Fiala or Turris to Seattle.

With Fabbro waiting in the wings, makes me wonder if they're going to try to move Josi.

Joe Murphy (first to go #1 overall from a US college and Stanley Cup winner) has been homeless for a decade.

Good feature here by TSN - it's 15 minutes long but it's worth it IMO.

@DarrenDreger: Sounds like a big signing about to be announced in Wpg.  Blake Wheeler agrees to 5yr,  $41.25 mil extension.  AAV $8.25 million.

Any of you guys want to run a dynasty fantasy hockey team?  It's part of a 4 team conglomerate with accompanying baseball, football and basketball teams.  I will run the other 3.

Highly recommend this league. Rodg needs a good hockey guy.

PM me your rooster.   I might be interested.

Game 5 Mystics viewing party tonight in the bar at Capital One Arena. Let's bring home that WNBA Conference Champion banner!

You know what? I'd actually be fine with that banner.

Three months since winning the Cup, and I'm still impervious to pain or anger.

VEGAS (September 9, 2018) - Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee announced today, September 9, the following roster transaction: the team has acquired forward Max Pacioretty from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Vegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Tatar , Vegas Golden Knights prospect Nick Suzuki and a 2019 Second Round draft pick originally belonging to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Remember last year's trade deadline when everybody tried to tell me Tatar was good. Vegas had to retain 9.4 million dollars. Suzuki could be great though.

9.4%, not millions?

So the Habs retain 10 percent on Pacioretty's remaining salary for this season while Vegas retains 9.433962 percent (not kidding) on Tatar's remaining three years. Which makes things basically a wash for this season but Montreal gets savings on two years after that on Tatar...

That make more sense :bag:

speculation already that Montreal will retain some more and try and trade him again.

if you're referring to me the argument wasn't that he was good but that the price Vegas paid was in the range for what he was worth/had accomplished.  it was a little high but two of the picks were future picks and Vegas had so many stockpiled that it wasn't that big of a deal to give a little, and they may have needed to anyway since it's hard to pry roster players in their prime already locked up on a contract.

LOL - I was reading my wife one of the many stories about how much partying the Caps have done, and showed her the drunk Jakub Vrana video, and she said, "You know they're not going to start the season focused, right?  I said, "I don't even care."

I literally don't care.  They could lose every single game this season, and I'd be OK since we finally won the #### cup.

I'm really starting to wonder when the buzz from winning the Cup actually does wear off?Still going strong here :banned:

I have easily watched game 5 with Vegas a good 20 times and the Kuzy goal to knock the Pens out double that.

The best part though was the celebration after and getting to be a part of it.

Giving new meaning to the term, "Stanley Cup hangover."

There's no way Ovie's BAC has dropped below the legal limit to drive yet, right?

Larry Brooks‏ @NYP_Brooksie

Rangers have acquired right D Adam McQuaid from B's in exchange for Kampfer, fourth-rounder, Post has learned.

My guess is it is for a veteran presence role...the Rangers are going with a youth movement and McQuaid is a highly respected leader who can throw the fists very well...not a bad guy to have around a bunch of youngsters as they figure things out...If I had to guess Quinny probably knows him pretty well as their paths definitely crossed in Boston...

From the Bruins' standpoint it also frees up some of the logjam they had going into the season.  As it is they still have seven other NHL defensemen on the roster:

Chara

McAvoy

Krug

K. Miller

Carlo

Grzelcyk

J. Moore

I hate to make baseless dopey comments like this but there has to be something wrong right? Why would he do this two weeks before camp starts?

Maybe he wants to give turning the Wangs around after his contract is up?

That was my first thought though with what you were thinking,I hope we're wrong.

Well that’s fine but then why do it now. Could easily do that next summer. The timing is what’s weird.

Seems very strange for sure, I'd agree something is very wrong. He doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that would do something like this at the last minute and risk hurting the team.
