2019-2020 NHL Season Thread (2 Viewers)

@charlieo_conn: Holtz is gonna be good. But I think the Flyers are lucky that Marco Rossi isn't going to New Jersey.
Holtz chose 88 because of an ice cream bar and his family members were not svelte. He's a RW and a pure sniper. Knowing nothing at all about him, I'm declaring him the next Phil Kessel and putting him on my list of guys to watch.

So the kids must have hats and jerseys from multiple teams and just grab the correct one after they're picked?

The Score app has a contest to predict the top 10 selections.

How bad am I going to do? :D

  1. Alexis Lafrenière
  2. Quinton Byfield
  3. Tim Stutzle
  4. Marco Rossi
  5. Jamie Drysdale
  6. Lucas Raymond
  7. Cole Perfetti
  8. Jake Sanderson
  9. Yaroslav Askarov
  10. Anton Lundell
Well I got 8 players right.  👍

Lucas Raymond, what are the wings getting there?
Pronman’s thoughts: In Raymond, the Wings get the fourth-best player on the board at No. 4. His skill level is right at the top of the draft with Lafreniere, he’s a game-breaker with his hands and playmaking. Due to his size and just fine skating, he will need time to physically develop, but there is no doubting the elite offense he could bring to the table. He becomes an extremely important part of the Wings’ rebuild and someone who could run their first power play with time.

I fully admit to knowing nothing about Askarov but taking a goalie there just seems nuts to me when so many good goalies have nowhere near that kind of draft pedigree especially when compared to all other positions.

Goalies are voodoo, man.

Positive comparisons to Vasilevskiy, who was the previous high water mark for a Russian goalie. I think there's room in the first round for the Samsonov, Hart, etc... types

Someone just reminded me of the legend that is Evgeni Ryabchikov, and I don't have nearly enough beer left to overcome that.

Toronto took a small guy with lots of skill, can't be surprised. I have tons of faith in Dubas as a drafter (see: Nick Robertson), I just wish once Askarov was gone they found a way to trade it for immediate back end help.

@charlieo_conn: Wow, the Rangers traded up to jump the Devils to take Braden Schneider. I figured he was going to Jersey.

:lmao:  No one on the Sportsnet panel has ever heard of the guy Columbus just took at 21 overall - Yegor Chinakov. 30th rated EUROPEAN skater for the draft. :lmao:

smart trade by Calgary. Dropped 3 spots got a 3rd round pick and almost certainly get the same guy they wanted anyway.

@MarkSeidel 2m

Chinakov? Seriously? I have a lot of faith in Jarmo Kekalainen but this is the biggest shock of a 1st round pick in 20 years. I got nothing. Absolutely nothing on this guy. I love the honesty of Sam & Futes. I'd have said the same thing.

@avappleyard: .@SmahtScouting actually have a scouting report for Chinakhov from @JoshTessler_.

So have a read... since you probably wont be reading that much about him elsewhere @BlueJacketsNHL fans! #NHL

Comparison

Tanner Pearson, Left Wing, Vancouver Canucks

Comparison

Tanner Pearson, Left Wing, Vancouver Canucks

Tanner Pearson was an over-ager once upon a time ago and like Chinakhov, Pearson has a dominant shot. Pearson does possess a stronger defensive game and better physicality, so Chinakhov is off the mark there. But, if Chinakhov can improve his defense, physicality and skating, he could resemble Pearson.
