2019 College football thread - It's 2020, yo. Go to the new thread. (1 Viewer)

Oklahoma has many classes for High School Football.   6AI being the largest schools, and 6AII being the next smaller size.

There are 16 teams each in 6AI and 6AII, which are the largest districts by student enrollment in the state. 8 of those teams make the playoffs.

There are currently 32 teams each in 5A, 4A and 3A. 16 teams each in those classes make the playoffs.

There are 63 teams in 2A; 58 in A; 47 in B; and 29 in C. The numbers of the lower enrollment classes can vary year-to-year, depending on district consolidation or districts choosing not to sponsor football programs.

32 teams in 2A and A make the playoffs, while 16 each in B and C make the playoffs.

If you win to many titles in a lower division you are forced to play up in the following season.

Oh those cowbells.  The sound is muted any time Miss State is on the tv, which in hindsight isn't that much.

Bama RB Najee Harris is returning for his Senior year...Of the 9 Bama draft eligible juniors, 4 are returning (RB Harris, WR Devonta Smith, LB Moses, LT Leatherwood)....5 are leaving (Tua, Jeudy, Ruggs, McKinney, Wills).

ARRRRGHHHHHH!

I'm officially an excited State fan again.  Its been a few years.  He might be a bust, but for now its a great hire.
I was ready to let some of our seats go with the 2020 home schedule but may stick it out now and see how it goes

Mississippi State played LSU close for about 24 minutes this past October in Starkville. They stopped LSU inside the ten on the Tigers' first three possessions, making LSU settle for FGs. Then MS State marched down the field for a TD, trailing only 9-7 with 5 minutes and change left in the half.

Sure, LSU went on to score two TDs before halftime, and two more in the third before MS State scored again in garbage time. But for more than a half, it looked like the Bulldogs had enough in the cupboard to hang with LSU. Or maybe it was just a hinky game that could have easily been 21-0 LSU out of the gate.

Point being ... Mike Leach might have a little something to work with.

I grew up never missing a home game.  Now I have 3 kids and a wife and all are fairly uninterested in football...I'll be the first to admit it sucks watching our home games on TV.  I wish we would simmer down on the clanga.  It was unique and fun when you had to sneak them in 10-15 years ago.  Now they have made them legal and everyone has one.  I agree its obnoxious.

Not smart for Harris, IMO.  Running Backs need to go ASAP.  He'll just be a year older when he wants that second contract which will hurt him.

I'm sure you've been back by since the stadium overhaul but if not you need to.  I'm an Auburn grad but my wife is a MSU grad.  It's like I told her, if you ever doubted how good Dan Mullen was just take a before and after of that stadium from the time he came til the time he left.

Terrible decision for a RB.  He's not going to grade out any higher and no position has a shorter shelf life nor higher injury risk.  He's giving away a year of NFL earnings which there aren't many of to start with.

I have no idea why they allow those in.  Had the misfortune of going to a game there once, never again.  I brought earplugs thinking how bad could this be, spent the entire game with them in and it hardly helped.  Fun.

We have talent.  Mullen left Moorhead possibly the most talented team we've ever head.  Its still a mystery why Moorhead didn't work out.  We just looked totally unprepared pretty much every game the past 2 seasons.   I think we punted out of our endzone 4 or 5 times on our first drive this season.

The one thing Moorhead did decent was recruit.  Our 4 year recruiting average should put us right around 20-25 in talent, which is historically great for us.  Leach just has to come in and pick up the pieces.  It could arguably be the most talented team Leach has ever coached.

I think his draft grade was very disappointing. So I assume his team feels it’s worth the gamble if they can get to a different slot/salary next year.

We've had season tickets since 1990, have had them since then.  Still have them, I've just missed a lot of games the last few years.  This was going to be the year I let the seats go.  Moorhead had just completely lost me.

Mullen single handily had us upgrade our facilities to the tune of $150-200 mil.  Its crazy what he did.

Not smart for anybody but especially not running backs. Odds of him seeing a second contract have to be less than 10% now.

Bizarre why these guys have such loyalty to these schools.

I think it was 2008 and we were completely irrelevant.  Greg Byrne had just taken over as AD and lobbied hard to allow us to "ring responsibly."  I don't think any of the other schools gave a #### about it back cause we were so bad.

The schools voted a few years prior to that and it was shot down 12-0...meaning our own AD at the time voted against them.

Plus another year of mileage on his legs that he could save for his pro career.  Risk of injury.  Silly decision.

Is it school loyalty, or someone on their personal team (agent, hanger-on, etc.) telling them they can go so much higher the next year?

I mean, RBs just don't go all that high anyway these days. I can sort of see it with a QB, an elite pass rusher, an elite OT, something like that ... being able to say "Hey -- you could go top 5 next year, you should stay in school". But what is the RB's best case? "Um, we think you max out at mid-second-round this season ... but you might go in the 20s next season!"

It’s about where he’ll go relative to the position and others in it, more than overall.  I’m not familiar with next years crop, but talk was Najee may not be a top 5 RB this year.

I’ve seen him at #4 or #5 of the group. Consensus seems to be Swift, Taylor, Etienne, Dobbins, and Harris. Who knows though who’ll shoot up or down during the combine and stuff.

@YahooSportsCFB: People have always said Starkville is the Pullman of the SEC
I've never been to any, so perhaps I shouldn't talk, but it seems to me like Lubbock, Pullman and Starkville are probably in the running for the 3 worst power conference school locations.

I think the best Wazzou ever did in recruiting was mid-50s so yeah, this is a new toy for Leach to play with.  The talent around him will be much richer than what he had in Pullman by a huge margin.  That's going to be nice for him.

But, I don't think it'll be much fun facing off against the SEC West.  Egads.

I'm sure it's much improved since then, but in 1984 SI called Texas Tech the ugliest campus.  TTech alumni and students were outraged.  In 1987 SI thought they would reconsidered.  This was my favorite part:

″Three years ago we said in this space that Texas Tech has the ugliest campus,″ he hissed. ″An avalanche of mail disputed this assertion. So we have looked at the school again, rechecked the photos and consulted experts. We are not too proud to admit our mistakes.

″This, however, was not one of them.″

I can't believe a RB who has a chance to be drafted would go back to school. Seems crazy.

I'm with you.  I hope it works out for him.  It's just hard to give up that year off your career.  Even if you move up in the draft you are giving up probably 20% of your marketable years, then factor in the time value of losing that money in year 1 and that doesn't even address the injury risk at that position.  To me that's the one position that even if you are a 2nd-3rd round type guy you probably need to go.  Maybe he wasn't going to be that but I would have doubted he would not be a day 2 guy.

I'm surprised he returned as well.  I hope it works out for him.

Starkville is not a terrible place, and the stadium renovation looks great.

Raheem Blacksheer is transferring from Rutgers to Virginia Tech. I didn’t like how he literally quit on the team a half hour before kickoff of one game but he’s a hell of a playmaker.

Weird feeling leading up to tomorrow’s game. First one where we lost to Bama, I was on ESPN 24/7. When we finally won, I listened to every take for months. Last year I would listen intermittently but pick up listening to stuff after the game.

This year, I can’t stomach to listen anymore.  It’s all just recycled stories and bleh bleh bleh. It doesn’t help that the wait between games has been the longest ever, but I can’t even get in the right mindset to watch. Hurry up and let’s play.

16 days of listening to Dabo complain about playing in New Orleans is too much for anyone.

So weird that the National Title game is tomorrow and there is no talk going on about it.  I think LSU gives the surfer dude (girl) his first loss personally.

There will be tomorrow night but for me, I've kinda forgot about it because it seems like 3 months since the semi-finals were played.  LSU has looked like the best team this year to me so I'd give them the advantage but Clemson winning wouldn't surprise me.

Seeing lots of videos and photos from the quarter today/tonight. Tens of thousands gathering for the Alumni band rocking Neck on bourbon... dudes in purple thongs with tails and Tiger masks...  Suffice to say Clemson is walking into an environment that's a bit different than what they're used to

Hoping the Dome is rocking tomorrow night

We’ve been to a few championship games, I’m not sure the environment will be that different. Besides, the drunks on bourbon street aren’t the people in the stadium tomorrow, it’s corporate plus equal student allotments.

How would you know?  They haven't played THIS year.  😉  (Stupid CFB)

Yea I’m sure Trevor Lawrence is gonna be terrified of some fat middle-aged white dudes with a tail stick to their bare ### singing suck some tiger D over and over.
