2019 College football thread - It's 2020, yo. Go to the new thread. (1 Viewer)

Talking with folks down there and apparently Clemson has reportedly travelled pretty poorly, not a lot of Their fans around town. Corporate allotments will certainly play a part. Will be interesting to see the crowd mix.

I think LSU hangs season's high score on Clemson (which isn't saying much at 23), but Clemson should have no trouble moving the ball on LSU too. Coinflip game IMO. Dominance of LSU talk be damned.

Should be a damn fun watch.

We’ve been to a few championship games, I’m not sure the environment will be that different. Besides, the drunks on bourbon street aren’t the people in the stadium tomorrow, it’s corporate plus equal student allotments.
Are you down in NOLA for the game?

There will be tomorrow night but for me, I've kinda forgot about it because it seems like 3 months since the semi-finals were played.  LSU has looked like the best team this year to me so I'd give them the advantage but Clemson winning wouldn't surprise me.
I'm with you on this.

Sure wish this game was played on a Saturday.  Could have a party, grill, drinks, and not have to work the next day.    Whoever made this game on Monday nights needs repeatedly kicked in the nutbag.
You want them to go against the nfl playoffs?

Seems forever since the semifinals.  Huge crowd for LSU tonight.  No surprise there.  Clemson has been on this stage before and shouldn't be affected by the crowd.  How each team executes is what will decide the outcome.  Let's get it on!

Anyone know if this will be streaming somewhere? My antenna doesn't get ESPN. Guess I could sign up for my free week of ESPN+ if they still have it.

AFC game Noon Central

NFC game 4pm Central

CFB Championship Game  8pm Central

All games Saturday.
So the NFL should accept lower ratings for the NCAA to benefit? Good luck with that.

Sorry to say but if you want it on Saturday, the CFP is getting that noon slot.

Breakfast tailgates can be fun though.

Yes I am sure I can find a stream on various websites, but those typically unstable. If I can find a stable stream it would be much easier.
I can usually find good streams on sportsurge.net  It's where reddit cfb streams have moved to.  Be sure to have an ad blocker.

Rooting for LSU, but gun to my head I would bet Clemson.  Burrow is fantastic but is bound to be just a little "off" for this game because of the Clemson D.  Hope LSU can get a running game going.

Interesting to see if the long layover has any effects.  LSU was absolutely rolling in the semis.  The Clemson/OSU game was a slugfest.  Looks like they needed the extra week to recuperate.

I'm not sure if Clemson's D can slow down Burrow.  And they'll have #22, another great weapon.  But I'm hoping that the Clemson D can confuse Burrow with schemes some of the time.  Venables was able to do that last year with Tua a few times.

Those LSU wideouts are fantastic, though.

This past Friday, I drove through the French Quarter eight times between noon and 10 p.m. Along one of the most foot-trafficked thoroughfares. Both ways. Uphill. In the snow.

Now, this was three nights before the championship game. And the big fan events weren't starting until Saturday. However:

Not only was the French Quarter fairly dead, it was even deader than usual for a Friday. Among the pedestrians I did see .... I'm sure some fans weren't wearing team colors, but I could have counted the number of Clemson gear-wearing fans that night on one hand.

Point of comparison: Visiting NFL fans are MUCH more visible before Saints home games (Cowboys & Niners especially, though some are locals). Not only do I schlep through the Quarter pretty much every day (not usually eight times, thankfully!), I also work right in the middle of a bunch of popular tourist hotels. When we have visitors and conventioneers of a certain stripe in town for an event, they stick out like sore thumbs and are easy to pick out.

So far ... counting this morning, Clemson is not representing as far as head count on the street goes. I had heard that the Clemson side has over 30% of the game tickets, though. Guess we'll see.

Well there you go, that piss filled street had less Clemson fans 3 days before the game.  I’m sure all the LSU fans will be in the dome.

case solved.

Says the salty-sounding guy who didn't make the trip...

Perhaps a pattern? 🍿

I’m not salty, but that’s just the stupidest line of reasoning I have ever read. If LSU wins it’s because they have a QB having maybe the greatest single season ever, a ton of WR skill, and a bright mind controlling their offense. It won’t be because a bunch of drunk swamp folk were singing about sucking animal ##### on a friday.

   I wasn't driving down Bourbon Street. I was driving down N Peters/Decatur/S Peters.

For workaday locals trying to get from here to there ... you don't drive through the heart of the Quarter. A lot of times at night, Bourbon is blocked to vehicular traffic, anyway.

I don't think it reflects badly on the Clemson fan base at all, and didn't mean for my post to be taken as a diss.

They've been what?  Three straight years? I'm sure most of the regular folk who could make a one-in-a-lifetime trip to watch Clemson play for a title have already gone to one of the other ones.

That would leave the well-heeled class of Clemson alumni money. Come to think of it ... maybe they would be less likely to walk around in Clemson gear than the general rabble.

Agree with you here. The local crowd didn't help at all in the 2011 title game. The game is played on the field.

Guys you don’t have to go to a title game to support your team. That’s ridiculous. Some of us want to vacation and experience life outside of just sports. And I say this as somebody who has been to many many many sporting events in my life.

It did help in '03 and '07, IMO.  '11 was unique with the Bama fanbase being very close and comfortable with NOLA.  I think it's a definite advantage tonight.

All games Saturday.
The NFL has pushed their divisional and championship games to 3:05 and 6:40 PM on Saturday and Sunday to capture prime time ratings.  They're not going backwards on this for the NCAA.

I'm sure it's gonna be a good game and I'm sure the fans of the schools are pumped...but as a casual college football fan with nobody to root for, this delay just killed any interest I had in the game.

I'll certainly watch, but this thing just feels like it has zero juice.

Point to ponder:

Can the loser of tonight's game rightfully point to the 16-day delay as a factor in the loss?

No.  Can't use a 16-day delay as an excuse, nor any type of perception that there is a home field advantage as an excuse.  11 on 11 with good coaching on both sides.  Win/lose the game on the field.

@Bobby_Oneill: 😳 Ya know what... I think I'll just go on back to the hotel early and order delivery 🤦‍♂️

There needs to be multiple like options added to this site.  I could not agree anymore.  This Monday night designation is horrendous.  5pm is the witching hour at our house with three little kids who need to eat, bathe and go to sleep and a teen who needs a ride home from basketball practice.  I have to record the game and put my phone on Airplane Mode so I can watch it uninterrupted.  It sucks.  SUCKS!

Before the CFP there was almost a month delay between games.  Everyone talked about certain coaches having an advantage "with a month to prepare."

It's that time of year when everyone complains about when a game is played with no viable solution.

Can't really pick a team I'd rather win the game, but hopefully it's close.

I'd say Clemson benefited these past two years the most. Last year they had the easy game with a quick turn around, with players bragging about prepping for Bama over the holidays along with their Notre Dame prep. They had the tougher match-up this year and got two weeks.

There's no complaint LSU can lodge because of this, but it just worked out for Clemson two years in a row.

While I agree 100% that folks don't have to go to title games, the bold doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. Some of us take multiple vacations a year.

Just struck me as funny to have someone scoff at the reports that Clemson hasn't traveled well, then didn't travel. No need to get bent over it... just an amusing observation. :)

Cheers to a good game   :banned:

I’m taking 4 this year. None of them involve sports. It’s just not that important.
