I believe that they all get paid. Yes. I dont believe all that changes is tax forms unless the details are in some way restrictive.

You have to remember that if Phil Knight tosses 50M a year at Oregon football (he won’t) the 60+ schools Nike does business with will find someone else to design their uniforms. It’s not going to happen.

The can of worms opened back in the 80's when Oklahoma sued the NCAA and won. The NCAA could no longer police the schools from making millions from the popularity of their sports teams, because doing so violates anti-trust laws.

I'm actually quite shocked that decades have passed with the NCAA still policing the athletes from making millions from the popularity of their likeness/name/image, because doing so violates anti-trust laws too. The NCAA made this change proactively in order to control the outcome. If they didn't, following California's lead other states and entities would have forced the NCAA into doing it reactively, which would likely have included them losing an anti-trust lawsuit again. 

In other words, the idea that the NCAA needs to police it all is inherently an anti-trust violation to being with. There is no future where they can.

It could very well happen. But when some group of boosters pays $10 million a year or whatever under your scenario and the team is now 10-2 instead of 8-4, how quickly will they sign up to fund that team in years 2 and 3 and beyond?

And of course it's great for the kid to get $50K to be the 3rd string TE who never plays...but when you're about to start your 3rd year in the program and still haven't played because there are stronger players ahead of you and you've now severely limited your opportunities to make an impression to get to the next level and earn a real paycheck, what do you do now?

I think people will be really surprised at how little actually changes once the money is above board.

If anything, the talent may get spread around a little further.  If you're looking at spending 2 years backing up guys getting paid to come and you were one of the last guys on scholarship at Bama, would being paid slightly less to be the big guy somewhere else look better?  IOW, why be the 3rd string TE at Bama when you can be the highest paid TE at Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Kentucky, or Missouri?  If you're good enough, an NFL scout ** will ** find you, regardless of what D1 school you're at.

On the road but was impressed with how Beale looked... hell of a crowd. I was against anywhere but the stadium but in hidsight Beale was definitely the correct call. Place was mobbed well before sunup.

Of course every Oklahoma and Georgia fan knows about the Supreme Court decision but it still is pretty absurd the rules football teams had to follow. 

College football before this ruling stated there would be only one televised game every Saturday and that no team would appear in a televised game more than once per season.   WoW!   

 
Last week of the college fantasy regular season. If I win and 2nd place loses, I get a much needed bye week. If not, I play next week with Chuba, Marquez Stevenson, Wandale Robinson and few others all on bye. I’ll barely be able to fill a roster.

I think people will look back at how college athletes were treated as being absurd as well. 

Personally I don't think colleges should be a minor league system for athletes, but as long as they are financially benefiting from being exactly that for major league sports (not including Major League Baseball) then they need to be held to being in the business of being their minor leagues.

I'm always in favor of good mid-majors and even the top FCS schools getting their shot at Gameday.  If you're a Memphis football fan, this is probably your only opportunity ever to check it out.  May as well go big.

So is Nebraska just done trying?  Between Nebraska, Tennessee, and Arkansas which flyover program has a shot of become relevant again?

 
I mean on a side note, how has Oklahoma remained relevant while those others haven't?  They should have the same geographical issues, yet they don't?  Adjacency to Texas isn't helping Arkansas.

Tennessee looks like they might at least have a pulse.  You know Nebraska isn't good when I switch off their game to watch a game Beth Mowins is calling.

Officiating is the absolute worst this year. It’s not questionable calls anymore. Now they’re onto blowing overt calls.

They went 6-7 in 2011 when Luke Fickell replaced Jim Tressel in May of that year.  2010 saw them vacate :rolleyes:  all of their wins. They went 6-6 in 1999.  Before that, you gotta go to 1988 when they went 4-6-1 under John Cooper.

Five minutes in and-

- Gators have burned two timeouts

- Gators have given up running it on short yardage

- I'm ready to mute effing Danielsen 

 
Gators defense has been able to contain the running game and get some pressure on QB but the tackling on back end has allowed UGA to pick up 3rd and longs.

Many/most Husker fans are calling Frost out, but don't want him fired.  Not sure about nationally.  Frost inherited a Mike Riley team that went 4-8 the previous year and despite the same record in 2018 they were actually better and at least had heart.  (finished the season 4-2 after a 0-6 start).  This year they are worse/suck.

Again, I don't know what people are saying about Frost nationally.  We have pretty much 24/7 local coverage.  The coaching for sure has been bad.  Maybe it hurts Taggart that FSU has had more recent success?  :shrug:

 Could be, but I think both stepped into similar situations from a talent/depth standpoint. FSU was 5-6 in 2017 when Jimbo bailed.

Frost won a national championship as a QB at Nebraska. 

Taggart has no history with Florida State. 

It shouldn't make a difference, but in people's minds it does. Same reason why Harbaugh has lasted so long at Michigan. 

 
Spotting the football is so freaking dumb.  They definitely should have moved it back from the original spot but nowhere near that far back.  He was maybe short by an inch, not 3/4's of a yard.  So ridiculous.

Pretty much 100% percent of Husker fans think/thought Frost was the right guy for the job and want to give him time.  They now want him to make coaching changes, but he was universally #1 on the wish list.   Was Taggart the #1 choice of the entire FSU fanbase?  It's going to be tough for people to call for Frost's head because many (me included) think he is our last chance to be relevant again.  But he is getting criticized plenty locally.

Nebraska was up 7-0 when our NT intercepted a shovel pass and returned it to the Purdue 3.  The first play from the 3 was a shovel pass of our own that could have been picked.  Followed by 2 more passes and a field goal.  So instead of taking a couple plays to run it in and go up 14-0,  Frost got cute like he thinks we are good enough to just toy with a team like Purdue.  :wall:   We're not.

@ThomasGoldkamp: This game not going at all the way the #Gators want. Georgia has had Florida's defense on the field the entire first half and gets the ball first after half.

Florida's offense pretty much has to put together a scoring drive here.
