The Boston guy getting charged with assault is a good start. They made sure that was publicized really good. Would be surprised if any fan is dumb enough to do it now after the last guy risks a massive fine.
I am not so sure. Fans in other cities likely won't hear much about it. Not selling liquor would be a good start, as idiots always get more idiotic with a little bit of liquid courage, but that would never fly as arenas make too much off of sales. Having big signs or announcements when entering all arenas that anyone throwing anything at players and/or on the court will be banned for life and arrested wouldn't be a bad start. Just spitballing. Even though they are not in the wrong here, probably wouldn't hurt as well to let players know that the punishment will be harsh for going into the crowd and after fans who do stupid stuff. That is the kind of stuff that can lead to another malice. If the fans cross the line, let security and the authorities handle it.
Take a page out of the UEFA playbook and force the offending club to host the next game without fans. It will never happen but it would no doubt put an end to it.

I've seen live games in three venues. LA, GS, Sac. They all have the exact same psa. I'm pretty sure it's used in every NBA arena. The music cuts 10 minutes before tipoff. The voice is the same. The language is the same. It forbids obscenity, personal interaction with the teams, drunken misconduct, etc., and it assures removal from the arena for violation. I've seen dozens removed from Staples for what Boston/Philly/NY fans think is a birthright. The ushers and security in Staples don't play. Don't always warn. They move fast and aggressively in groups of 3-5 and belligerent jerks are removed. So if I'm right and this pregame announcement is universal, it's on the arena management to control their monkeys.
I've gotten to the point were a player is justified on putting their hands on a fan. They need to fix this quickly.

yeah, 3rd Q was mostly all bench. Beal and Russ did a good job hitting Simmons enough to get the refs to call more fouls on him, so with him sitting at 4 figured Doc would let him rest a bit.
