2020-21 NBA *Playoffs* Thread: Bucks are the champs and you can take that to the bank bromigos (3 Viewers)

Criminal charges should be pressed against that dude. With the force of gravity on his side a full water bottle to the side of the head could so some damage. It takes a certain warped mind to do something like that - it’s sports.

The 21-year-old male who threw a water bottle at Kyrie Irving faces assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge and will be arraigned on Tuesday, Boston PD say. A second fan in Boston was also arrested Sunday night due to assault and battery of a police officer.

Fans shouldn't be throwing anything at these games, but Kyrie is very unlikable.
This.

No excuses or justifications.  Fans should never throw objects at players.  It is unequivocally not ok.

But Kyrie making it about race seems like a reach.  He told Boston fans he was coming back and then bolted later.  Which, fine.  You don't owe anyone anything.  But don't commit and bolt.  The fans won't like or respect you.  Then it appears he went out of his way to "stomp" on the face of the leprechaun.  That's just being a tool.  And then when someone throws stuff at you--it's because you're black?  No one should throw anything at you.  But to pull the race card after you stomp on the half court logo?  C'mon dude.

He's a race baiter.

Nothing more.

Sooner he's out of the league, the better.

Guy was an idiot for throwing the water bottle.

Lakers star Anthony Davis is unlikely to play in Game 5 vs. Suns on Tuesday due to strained groin, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. There’s optimism about Davis‘ status as series continues and as he is evaluated day-to-day.

well he flipped the race card out before coming to Boston in the attempt to preempt being booed (thank you, Boston, for not backing down), so why wouldnt he? and, what's worse, and why Boston hates him so, is that he sowed the seed that tore the Celts locker room apart when he made Coach Stevens tolerance of Gordon Hayward's plodding rehab into a white-privilege thing, and the coach had to take it because he was under orders from Traitor Danny not to do anything that would make his prize PG (regs know i was against getting Irving from the gitgo, but he does have the best handle i ever seen) opt out. Kyrie learned from LeBron to believe that court eminence confers profundity on the practitioner and turned it into a hella case of Borderline Personality Disorder. were i a black person i'd be mad to see someone so glib with what little leverage is available, but i genuinely do have no place telling black people what to be.

ETA: No doubt Boston's a racist town, i come from the part of Boston that is the center of that racism - an Irish hangover from the Draft Riots of 1863 - and it curdles my soul. going to the Celts games with my uncle every Sunday in the 60s, i had to watch my hero #6 work his unprecedented wizardry while listening to the grandparents of yesterday's bottle-thrower yelling "Whaddya call a black supahstaah? N------!". Hate it, hate it, hate it, but it dont make Kyrie Irving's any less a pop-for-drill face.

ETAA: @Capella is a frikkin comic genius!!!!

An athlete being supremely unsmart.

Sadly, seen this before.

Time and time again.

I try to focus on what they are professional at, and not their amateurish behavior.

me too, except when it ruins a team. woulda liked to face Kyrie yesterday with Horford, Gordo, Rozier, Collin Sexton - woulda like that just fine...

Oh yeah - I know he’s not coming to Atlanta.  I was just pointing out 1. He would fit great here with the pieces in place and 2. Otis is a goober for not wanting him and thinking this side is good enough.
We should be able to give more than one emoji. I went with Knicks emoji.

We are on the same page.

batting about .750 this playoffs.  But the point margins are way off.  Maybe close playoff games are a thing of the past.

Sixers by 10
Jazz by 10

The NBA needs to get their arms around this soon, with this nonsense of fans throwing stuff at players, or else they are going to have another malice at the palace on their hands.  Not sure what the answer or solution is, but they need to get ahead of this.

The Boston guy getting charged with assault is a good start.  They made sure that was publicized really good.  Would be surprised if any fan is dumb enough to do it now after the last guy risks a massive fine.

I am not so sure.  Fans in other cities likely won't hear much about it.  Not selling liquor would be a good start, as idiots always get more idiotic with a little bit of liquid courage, but that would never fly as arenas make too much off of sales. Having big signs or announcements when entering all arenas that anyone throwing anything at players and/or on the court will be banned for life and arrested wouldn't be a bad start.  Just spitballing.  Even though they are not in the wrong here, probably wouldn't hurt as well to let players know that the punishment will be harsh for going into the crowd and after fans who do stupid stuff.  That is the kind of stuff that can lead to another malice.  If the fans cross the line, let security and the authorities handle it.

Take a page out of the UEFA playbook and force the offending club to host the next game without fans.  It will never happen but it would no doubt put an end to it.

I think fans in other cities will definitely hear about it. It's the top story on ESPN.  Com right now.

But ya some signage or announcements in arena would be good. Or some commentators talking about it maybe.

Either way I hope it stops. Started with popcorn, then it was spit, then it was a water bottle. Getting worse.

Immanuel Quickley said a beer was thrown at him in Game 2 at MSG. “Not sure why, not even sure who did it, but it happened. I guess that’s part of having fans in the game.”

I've seen live games in three venues. LA, GS, Sac. They all have the exact same psa. I'm pretty sure it's used in every NBA arena. The music cuts 10 minutes before tipoff. The voice is the same. The language is the same. It forbids obscenity, personal interaction with the teams, drunken misconduct, etc., and it assures removal from the arena for violation. I've seen dozens removed from Staples for what Boston/Philly/NY fans think is a birthright. The ushers and security in Staples don't play. Don't always warn. They move fast and aggressively in groups of 3-5 and belligerent jerks are removed. So if I'm right and this pregame announcement is universal, it's on the arena management to control their monkeys.

I told the story here once of a drunk Toronto fan sitting behind me. Just a pig. Spit beer in my hair. Spilled it on my daughter. It was all I could do to keep my cool. You could feel the tension in the area. Clipper fans were trying to let him have his fun, but it became awkwardly silent after some of his stupidity. Usher above us warned him. He got worse. Boom, he was gone.

I've gotten to the point were a player is justified on putting their hands on a fan. They need to fix this quickly.

Fans are trying to make up for a years worth of transgressions in a few days.

I really hope this first game is good since I won't be up for the second. I do dread the posts for the next 48 hours if the Wizards some how pull out a win.

I'm sure it will be when they come up against a coach better than Scott Brooks...
hopefully it comes soon. Let Ben shake it off and get back to around a 60% FT shooter. funny how he did miss that first one already tonight.

Sixers stepping on the throat a bit, though i see Washington has 8 points now with 6 minutes left in the 1st Q, so that is something

Russ definitely has a page out of A.I.'s book from when he played. So small, any touch on him makes him go flying a bit and draws a foul

These announcers say Westbrook is flopping. Replay shows Simmons smack Westbrook in the face. Simmons is yelling at the offical about the call.  :lmao:

Ben's making Luka look good on free throws.
he sank one, it's coming...

And Wiz are certainly not rolling over like the Heat. Sixers need a bit of this

ETA: and i don't know what to make of those Robyn Lopez hook shots. they are ugly as hell, but he hits them at 67%?

Doc rivers going all bench to end the 3rd here. Curious decision that has the sixers down 10 now.
yeah, 3rd Q was mostly all bench. Beal and Russ did a good job hitting Simmons enough to get the refs to call more fouls on him, so with him sitting at 4 figured Doc would let him rest a bit.

they could put a good run in, but wonder if they decide to just punt here and take it next game
