2020 College football thread - It's the offseason, yo. (3 Viewers)

So tired of hearing the announcers gripe and complain about replays.  "The game takes too long!"

This is your job to announce the game just do it without the complaining.   Who goes to a football game or watches from home and thinks to themselves I sure hope this game is over in two hours I have stuff to do.

Maybe if the announcers are too overwhelmed with the length of the College football game they could just do one half and have relievers come in for them at halftime.  GTFOH with that griping.

It sure sucks that the NCAA wants to get the call correct.

Looking ahead December 12th features MichSt - Penn St. Otherwise known as resistable force meets stoppable object.

Not sure either team crosses midfield.

Man tOSU’s schedule is awful. I wonder how much it should affect their playoff bid if the best team they play before playoffs is Indiana?

They’ll get in. Who would get in ahead of them? We know we have Bama/Clemson or ND, and maybe both/maybe Florida or TAMU and I guess Oregon? Can’t imagine a 1-loss UF or TAMU getting in over OSU.

Assuming ND wins out and then loses to Clemson - hard to see them both not making it. When everyone else will have 2 losses.

To me, it seems likely that ALA/ND/CLEM/OSU will be the playoff.

And I know - lot of football left.

I think the michigan loss to michigan state is their worst loss in my lifetime....holy ####!!!!!

And the heat on jim seems to be real.....didnt see that coming.

The problem might be if an undefeated PAC 12 team is there too. SEC will have at least one team, ND/Clemson murky the waters this year, and not sure yet how PAC 12 factors in.

I know tOSU is a good team, but that Penn State win now means nothing. MSU is bad and so is Michigan. They will have the worst resume and no one would really know how good they were until the playoffs.

Well I won’t argue their schedule but you can watch a team and get an idea of how good they are. Wonky things can happen in CFB but I doubt you’re gonna find many people saying a 7-0 OSU team at the end of the year doesn’t deserve to be in. Not like any of this other teams are playing a gauntlet themselves.

ND sleep walking and keeping BC in the game. Completely lost so far and two stupid turnovers. Feels like a survive and enhance kind of week.

Yes I agree about the players wanting to play. But this is a total farce, two pac schools scheduled a game for Sunday, TODAY
I would just say play the games and forget any championships.  Just let the kids have fun.  I know this will never happen but that’s what’s I’d like to see.

I agree that the kids want to play, but it is a "free" year of eligibility if they want to stick around.  At least that was the word earlier.  I would understand if they want to call it  career with everything going on.

ETA:  I have no idea what the NCAA is planning to do with scholarship limits  and incoming class if a bunch of current scholarship players want to stick around.
Extra year sounds great but in reality somebody is losing the time if they don’t play.  Especially high school kids.

Don’t get me wrong - this is a small sacrifice to ensure we stay healthy but I get it.  I know if my son was in his senior year of HS this year I’d be totally bummed for him if basketball gets cancelled.

Yeah, I get why they want to play too. The pandemic sucks for everyone, but especially so for kids. Seminal moments are so tightly packed together, they are all missing something significant in one way or another.

@ThomasGoldkamp: Kyle Trask throws his fourth touchdown pass of the game, bringing his season total to 26 in just 5.5 games.

No Florida TEAM under Jim McElwain or Will Muschamp had more than 26 passing touchdowns... in full seasons. #Gators

Harbaugh with the mask over the headset...

Down 21-0...3rd and long and tries running the ball.  Looks like he has already given up.

I know you’ve thoroughly covered this, but recruiting rankings have been top 10 outside of ‘18...is it the wrong recruits vs need?
Recruiting is definitely a skill that successful coaches typically have...that’s not needed obviously in the NFL. And it’s not just piling up high rankings.
They get talent, but they don't develop the 3* players hardly at all.  And their quality players aren't getting significantly better either.  In my view, it's player development and game plan.  I think Harbaugh and Brown are married to specific approaches come hell or high water and have no idea how to change.  There just seems to be so much entitlement on these teams.  I don't get the sense they are competing for the positions they are starting.  I don't think there is any question that Milton was the better talent between him and McCaffery, but will they be able to develop him to his potential?  It's probably more culture than anything.
@gump

Don't know if you watched any of the Michigan game last night, but it's a perfect illustration of what I'm talking about.  It's fine to get "top 10" classes because they are signing 27,28,30 kids to a class with a mix of 3 and 4 star (occasional 5 star mixed in) IF you're going to develop those lower level guys.  This is kind of why I've stopped following recruiting.  A team ranked at #4 with 20 kids total (3 5 stars and a bunch of 4 stars with a couple 3 stars) is significantly different in #5 team with 28 kids total (no 5 stars, several 4 stars and a bunch of 3 stars).  MIchigan isn't doing that and the defensive line last night is a perfect example.  Their best DEs were both out...one's out for the year.  There is no "next man up" on this team.  If there is a ***** in the armor and the first string guys go down, there is a SIGNIFICANT drop off to the next level.  It's brutal.  So when a team like that loses all the talent they did plus get specific injuries in the season, you get the turd product they are producing.  There's no reason for this at all.  I'm not sure why I am just noticing now, but it's smacked me in the face this year and as I look back the last couple of years, it's a pattern and it rests squarely on the coaching staff.  They don't seem to be able to put players in a position to succeed.  They throw them into the pre-established system and hope.

Ok done with my rant....  :D

UF favored by 31 over Vandy eclipsed by...

@IraSchoffel: Clemson opens as 32.5-point favorite vs. FSU. No team has been a bigger favorite over the Seminoles in decades.

FSU was a 25.5-point 'dog last year vs. Clemson; Same in 2009 vs. UF. The furthest back I can find old spreads in 1985, and these three are the largest in those years.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: BREAKING: #SouthCarolina has parted ways with Will Muschamp, per sources.

@JoshTheAthletic: Will Muschamp's buyout is just north of $13 million. It was cut slightly as part of the most recent amendment to his contract. There had been growing concern among school officials and supporters that continued fan apathy could cost South Carolina more.

@RossDellenger: It’s real real early, I know. But two fairly obvious names to watch at South Carolina: Cajuns coach Billy Napier and Liberty coach Hugh Freeze.
