2020 Mid Year Song Draft - Round 7 Saturday, Round 8 Sunday (1 Viewer)

I'll give people to end after 15 today or continue with

16,17 Friday

18 Saturday

19 Sunday

20 Monday

----

Don't want to go long but always good to have a solid playlist.
I may be done at 15, and I may catch up with my last 5 on Monday... heading out camping soon, and have a busy day.  For what is worth, my short list for my last 5 has 9 new picks and one repeat on it.

ETA: I also may wind up just spotlighting those bands on Monday ;)

Like I said I can always toss in some more, but will wait for official word, maybe folks think the playlist is OK?

We've got a plenty of punk rock but could maybe use some metal, that's partly on me but I haven't been tuned into much of that lately for whatever reason.. still I've got some tracks here

"Krill" have changed their name to "Knot".  Why did Krill get the works?  That's nobody's business but these guys' I guess.  Decent cut though

16.jz Knot - Foam

I'm whiskey'd up and ready to share.

16 - Ecliptic - King Buffalo

Not that any of you have been paying attention, but this is a band I've selected in previous drafts.  They put out a new album and this song immediately drew my attention.  It's VERY derivative of a John Carpenter soundtrack song.  It's love how cheesely awesome it is.

I’m going to be double dipping from previously-picked artists to round out 20, starting with the Strokes:
Same.

I know it was mentioned upthread, but I can't allow this song to go unselected.  I feel it was the "Rosetta Stone" song that tied the band to their earlier works.  It took time for me to appreciate some of the other songs off the album, but this one I immediately recognized as a "Pearl Jam" song.  I'm not arguing this is the best song off the album, but it was the first to earn my approval.

17 - Quick Escape - Pearl Jam

Again, fans of the Sledge will know I've got an ear chubby for Badflower (my 2nd rd pick).

That was an old song recently released as an actual single.  This is their newest single.

I stan this band so f'in hard!

18 -  30 - Badflower

i just want to throw out a "thank you" to @Northern Voice and everyone else who participates in these threads.  I've been shuffling through the playlist and have thrown out some likes for those that tickled my earbones (already, more to come).  This community has introduced me to a lot of good music.  You are worth my while.  Not much on the internet is anymore.  It's appreciated.

Listen to Badflower.

Some rye-fueled ruminations on a beautiful WNY afternoon:

1. Songs/artists picked by others that were on my list - Beths (both of them), Tennis, Nathaniel Rateliff, Tame Impala, Strokes

2. Where is @Ilov80s this draft?

3. Seems like 2020 has our tongues - not much chatter in here (though I’m very guilty and I see there are lots of other music threads ongoing).

4. So 2020 sucks but hey both The Weeknd and The Strokes put out albums this year.

5. There are a handful of new to me tunes that are likely to crack my year end top 10 song list and dozens more added to my  2020 playlist for repeated listening, all of which I discovered through this draft. This has been the standard for these drafts - thanks all for participating!

6.  And as always thanks to @Northern Voice for hosting these drafts

Agreed.

Re: #3, I like to wait to listen to the entire playlist before commenting much.  I try to take a quick listen to the links for songs I'm not familiar with but have missed several.  I will listen to every song on Spotify once the draft is completed.

For whatever reason, I just haven’t listened to much new music this year. You would think with Covid and having little to do I would be on top of it but I actually found myself enjoying the comfort and nostalgia of a lot of older music.

7. Shoutout to @JZilla for updating the playlist

r20  Douglas Dare - The Joy in Sarah's Eyes

Thanks to NV and JZ for running this and keeping the playlist up to date.  Really looking forward to shuffling this one over the next few weeks.

Like our mega-draft from April, I sent the Spotify link from this draft to my brother-in-law who is still quarantining in a tiny apartment in Bangalore, India with his wife and their 2 young teens---5 months and counting.  He was again quite appreciative of our efforts and asked me to thank everyone.

I've been listening to the mix on and off for the past day.  Thanks to everybody who collaborated.

The playlist gives a multifaceted perspective of 2020 music that no algorithm could spit out.
