2024 Year-End Song Draft - 280 songs of the year (2 Viewers)

4.JHWAC - God of Everything Else - Porridge Radio
Don't need to know where you are
You'll be hit by a wave of me

I'm the God of everything else
You're the God of losing me

It was a sick, sick, sickness loving you
I wake up choking on dreams of you

I wake up crying through loving you
I'll go everywhere just to get away from you

Well ****, nv is doing the lords work here. Totally missed this when picked and not sure I realized they had this album out.

Something something something old rappers..

18. LONG in the tOOth- 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, Pos, The Budos Band

I always liked Budos Band, and also always wanted some vocals. assume this all caps bloke got Pos (de la soul) involved in the remix. Kinda reminds me of when Aesop Rock did Portishead

19. Thom Southern - Fly Birdy Fly 🦅

🎶
Who-who-who
Who-who-who

Fly birdy fly
Fly birdy fly
Away from me

20. The Aces - Jealous

Cristal Ramirez (lead vocals and guitar): "The Aces are a four-piece band from Orem, Utah. All women. Three of the four of us are queer."

Music Talkers review: "The funky, playful, and teasing vibe of the song aligns perfectly with its exploration of jealousy. Repeating the line, 'I know you’re jealous when I walk in the room,' the track’s sound genuinely captures this sentiment."

Wrapping it up. I've been trying to keep up with listening to the list a bit each day and I'm up to current. Lot's of good stuff out there. I'll try to come back in a few weeks to throw out some likes for those songs/artists that really impress me. I appreciate everyone who contributed.

SCS 19: Highly Suspect - Summertime Voodoo

Just a fan of this band. Maybe not my favorite song off the album, but I'd agree it's got the broadest appeal.

SCS 20: Jhariah - RISK, RISK, RISK!

He is known for his convoluted and undefinable music style, and uses the motto "No Genre, All Drama". That description is apt.

Enjoy everyone!

19.ee - Strand of Oaks - "Party at Monster Lake"

I thought I'd picked this at mid-year but I must have been holding back because of MADs #3. I still don't get the album but this is the song that's stuck with me even over the two that made my top 31.

20.ee - The Hard Quartet - "Heel Highway"

Kept waiting for someone to pick from this album but nobody did. This song is one of the more Pavementish ones.

Welp. This was fun. I've put the playlist on a few times but haven't made it halfway home. Last pick was tough. I deliberately made a late run of male singers. I remember when girl singers were harder to come by but not these days. They dominate my 2024 playlists. I kinda wanted to slip Linkin Park or Kate Hudson in, but they're girl singers, which is new for LP. So I listened to a half dozen dude singers and decided girls dominated for a reason. For me this one is too fun, too good, and too bad boys. It's a girl.

20. ALT BLK ERA - My Drummer's Girlfriend

Thanks guys (and gals)

I think I took this in the first half draft. Also fairly sure that the new at & t commercial uses a budos band track

There are a lot more female artists on this playlist than the MADs ones.

20. I’m pretty cool - Heems, Lapgan

A little less old, but I guess not young…

I work remote while watching Murder She Wrote
I lived in a castle, it float past the mo-o
Oh, you the goat? Tonight I'm eating curry goat
Oh, you the goat? I'm eating goat biryani for dinner
Yo, I'm a winner, I'm more vain now that I'm thinner
My dough nuts, ich bin ein Berliner
I'm in a Sprinter, you just a beginner
Gwap, stretch like yoga, I flow like Vinyasa
I'm at the crib watching Piazza with the Rasta
I'm eating pasta, a little kielbasa
With a Dominican girl named Yo Casta

19. Thom Southern - Fly Birdy Fly 🦅

Since there are still a few songs left to be added to the Spotify list, just noticed this tune was missed.

Good job everyone on the draft!

I think there are a few more than that which are missing from the playlist. My YouTube Music playlist for this draft contains 278 songs. The Spotify playlist shows only 273. Not sure which are missing, but I'm pretty confident they were omitted from the last week of the draft.

Do you have a way of exporting the YT music list so I can do a compare against the Spotify one?

Here's the best I can muster.
Since I was the only person adding to this list, and I'm rather OCD about these things, it should follow the same order as the picks made in the thread.
Near as I can tell, the Spotify Playlist is missing the last few songs that were drafted. Not sure that accounts for the entire discrepancy, though.

19. Highest degree - the high & mighty, o.c.

I wanted to say here is some rap from some non-old guys, but then I realized they are probably like the same age as me, so they are old

We're closing in on perfect. I was missing the following...
  • Naima Bock Gentle
  • Adrianne Lenker Once A Bunch
Not trying to throw anyone under the bus, but I've been struggling to keep @Dr. Octopus picks validated. He just posts the Spotify link for his picks and the forum Search feature does not parse the text displayed by the link alone. This means his picks don't return from the Forum Search results. I had his The Cactus Blossoms pick on my list, but I inadvertently added the album's title song, "Every Time I Think About You", instead of the the song he selected, "There She Goes". It appears you added "Every Time I Think About You" to the Spotify list which was a mistake.

So my current YouTube Music playlist is an even 280 songs. If you remove the erroneous Cactus Blossoms song, both playlists should match.

Good work, team.

J

I made it through the whole playlist just in time for the MADs madness to resume. :towelwave:

I may have missed one or two songs when I lost track between listening sessions but I definitely played a few songs twice by mistake. It was an enjoyable listen featuring a ton of acts I've never heard or heard of before. It was a nice touch to finish with Ringo.
