2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (1 Viewer)

Sixers color guy Alaa Abdelnaby Is in a bit of trouble with Australia and some NBA fans who watched the game. Embiid as many of you probably saw his block early in the game came down hard and so did the OKC defend. Alaa basically made a comment he hopes Embiid is ok but "no offense" he didn't care about the OKC player. He basically went into Josh Giddey wasn't that important enough that Joel had to risk himself there.

This definitely isn't cancel culture level issue but the guy should know better. He could've said he hoped both guys are ok and Joel is really important to the sixers and when he goes down there's always cause for concern. His comment came off as pretty homer-ish to what my NHL buddies call Penguins bad Homer. Dude seems like a good guy but I think he could've done better in this situation. It also comes off as a guy who wants Joel to play less physical and be more soft to cut back on risk of injury. That's actually worse then playing hard because if you play too safe or risk free you run the risk of hurting yourself a lot worse sometimes.

Some Folks Aren’t Happy with Alaa Abdelnaby

speaking on Mental illness @modogglooks like unfortunately Delonte West relapsed. Have an Uncle with Bi-Polar recently was in a mental facility and apparently going to some classes as an out care patient. Bi-polar is an awful mental illness and takes a toll on everyone from the person to their loved ones. just for others wondering.

Delonte West arrested in FL
yeah i saw that the other day. i actually met with Delonte a bit when he was at St. Joe's. only a few times, but shame to see that this has hit him real hard. Was happy when the Mavs offerred to help him out, but it is a long road

My co worker went to Temple when Jameer Was there and another one their cousin dated Nelson for bit. I also had a former HS teacher who coached SJU's Softball team. So I got to hang with those guys more then a few times. Phil Martelli's daughter and my mom went to school together and were good friends too. Jameer would come back to PA in the offseason early in his career and they use to play at a basketball court in my area and go over to Ardmore to play at the Lower Merion Park courts Kobe use to play at. My co worker took me a few times to watch them. Nelson was great and I got to meet Dwight Howard one time and met Vince Carter that one off season he signed with Orl. Nelson always had some teammates or NBA guys around including some locals.

I did notice West always seemed a bit off but never occurred to me it was Bi-polar. When I heard thats what he had it kind of wasn't shocking though considering my Uncle.

Rough night for the threads favorite team. Defense was solid again for the thrid straight game which is HUGE for this team but the offense didn't show up. 34% shooting, 30% from three, 59 missed shots and only 11 offensive rebounds. UGH. The big 3 shot 23-61. Plus Beasley was just 1-8. Most concerning despite the overall good defense is Valanciunas putting up a 22 point/23 rebound night. If Towns can't take a leap defensively this team isn't going to make all my dream come true. These two teams played this weekend too and JV went 20+17.

aint been able to watch em yet but what has happened with the 2-man game w DAR/KAT? isn't the reason y'all dont have Simple Simmons up North that these guys were besties and couldnt be broken up? maybe they should see other people...

The offense has been good, just nobody could make a shot last night.

i enjoy watching the bucks play but it would be nice if bally sports and spectrum didnt freeze for the fourth quarter take that to the bank brohans
Eff Bally's. I hope they fold. Sounds like at least on the baseball side they're looking at other options.

I didn't get to watch, bc I was watching Saints on MNF, and I just knew you guys were going to destroy us. Couldn't believe it when I saw the box score! Good night for my New Orleans pro teams. lol  We've been dreadful the first couple of games sans-Zion, so without having seen it, I'd attribute your loss to just having an off night.

i saw some of this threads favorite team the wolves (tm) on an nba tv  look in last night and edwards is fun to watch i get it now and swc thinks they are on the rise take that to the bank brohans

Is the Zion weight thing for real?  I saw some pics where he looked to be in my category, rotundness-wise.  Doctored or no?

Id deal Zion on his next upswing.

You see Jrue and Lonzo flourishing elsewhere. Zion can't stay healthy, teams been terrible with or without him, you know he's probably not resigning there. It's already Year 3 and this team looks to be still in rebuild mode and not near playoff contention. He's so reliant on his explosiveness and already having lower body issues so young.

76ers Lost to NYK tonight. One of the issues for them is they rely too much on the 3 ball and shot poorly (under 30%) tonight. When they aren't hitting their 3s wins come tough for these guys.

Jokic just left the court after banging his knee with Gobert.  🤕 Hopefully he's fine, but anytime these guys leave the court because of their knee you have to be concerned.

It appears so, but not sure. Haven't seen him lately. I think the photos making the rounds were from the team photoshoot which was a while back.

Definitely better with him, and the current roster was built AROUND him, so yeah we are struggling mightily without him in there.

That being said, as big of a fan as I am of Z, I'm one more injury away from being ready to deal him. His talent is undeniable, but if he's only going to play half of every season, then potentially miss playoffs due to continued injuries, then we need to deal him for some first rounders and try our luck elsewhere, IMO.

Wolves vs. Bucks tomorrow should be pretty great. Wolves by 6 imo.
To quote the great Rudy T, "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion." 🏆

The last time your squad won in Mill-e-wah-que ("the good land") their leading scorer was Kevin Love.  ...and tonight the Bromingos will probably have the returning power of Bobby Portis' eyes. 👀

Russell Westbrook had himself a game

i know after game 1 we were at DEFCON 2 and his career demise seemed a foregone conclusion, but we've reduced the alert to DEFCON 4 at this time.

maybe he's not going to single handedly destroy Lebron, the Lakers and the NBA after all?

It's going to take a while for these guys to figure out how to play effectively together. I'll be worried if they're having games like they did in the 1st two in February/March.

Slightly off topic but curious about everyone's thoughts on Chris Jackson (Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf).  For a work project.
Interesting article came out this we on Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (HERE).  Nice summation of all things MA-R and a few tidbits I didn't know (he played Jordan 1 on 1 at a camp when he was younger, scored a few times, and was asked to sit down...lol).  It also includes a link to some YouTube stuff at the end.

I thought this was a joke, but it's true

Wait when did the pups become anyone’s favorite team, especially FBGs?  As a long-suffering twolves fan, I want to hope against hope that they turn the corner this year but know the moment I feel good about the squad, something messed up will happen. Don’t get to be the worst franchise across all sports for nothing!

Cheering for a Minnesota sports teams (not including the Lynx) is awful but can’t quit them.

the dude was a flat our scoring machine. so fun to watch. would be amazing without hand-checking and even more freedom to run and gun.

Tomorrow's Bulls/Knicks game is also Joakim Noah night at The United Center. Pretty cool with DRose (who he was great friends with and referred to as his little brother) and Thibs both there. Ironically Noah's college coach will be there from Florida  as Billy Donovan coached Noah when the Gators won back to back NT's before Noah went to the NBA.

Hopefully Captain Kirk, Deng and others show up too.

Brad Miller, Omar Asik, Kirk Hinrich, and Luol Deng were hanging with Noah in CHICAGO tonight. Sounds like the band is getting back together tomorrow to celebrate one of Bulls fans all time fan favorites

Close!

Didn't help that the Bucks are missing 2/5 of their starting lineup (3/5 if you count Donte), but the Wolves definitely look like a team on the rise.

Also, Semi Ojeleye sucks.  Definitely put on some weight since this photo was taken...

Seems like we did it, boys. Hop on now or get left in the dust.
Congrats on the win Frosty.  The Wolves shot so well in the 1st, it was reminiscent of the Splash Brothers.  Then they couldn't hit much the last three quarters.  Young team almost coughed it up, but Anthony Edwards came up big with that And1.

Overall, Edwards is impressive.  He has all the skills but now he seems to be under much more control and his shot selection also appears improved.  Russell did his thing, but I can't say he's very impressive at anything other than in pick n' roll situations.  Love Jared Vanderbilt's hustle.  Putting him into the starting lineup was a good decision with the Bromingos being down a few bigs with others just coming back.

That brings me to Karl-Anthony Towns.  Something's off with him.  He's super talented but his body language sucks.  He seems kind of soft, got harassed into poor passes with simple double teams, and generally doesn't seem like a player that drives winning.  It's just one game but a handful of small things last night raised an eyebrow from me.  ??

Then again, I've become spoiled watching Giannis get better every year and absolutely not backing down from anyone, anytime.  His self-pass off the backboard to dunk it was pretty sweet last night.  Unfortunately the shooters didn't shoot and the Bucks defense was a mess at times early.

Also, Semi Ojeleye sucks.  Definitely put on some weight since this photo was taken...
Ojeleye and Portis looked like players that were just returning to game action.  Ditto with PG Justin Robinson (even though he's been playing).  Not sure he's an NBA player, but this is the type of game we'll see with so many players out of action early this season.
