2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (2 Viewers)

Do we think New York/Brooklyn fans and media are going to be any nicer to Simmons than Philly?
Yes. Everyone is nicer than our fans haha.

Plus they have a guy who wants to be there and will play. If Ben plays in the next week I guess that kinda kills his defense of not being mentally ready to play.

I cannot imagine wanting Harden at this point.  Maybe there will be enough of a honeymoon for them to make a run this year.

Michael Lee on Twitter: "Text from a former NBA player this morning: "Harden gonna have a hard time getting a former teammate to introduce him at his HOF induction"" / Twitter

In Houston, everyone outside of Dwight Howard despised James Harden. That team loved Jeremy Lin and what he brought to that team and how Harden treated Lin was too much for them.

Which was part of the story of Lin's career. Abusive behavior by Melo , then Harden, then Kobe.

Gilbert Arenas said it best, Lin should have just taken big shots at big moments and not worry about the "franchise players"

Man I feel for KD. Dude goes into this thing in Brooklyn probably thinking he poised for at least 1 title. Then Kyrie does what he does best, gutting an organization from the inside with stupid off-court drama (I've seen it as a Boston fan). And now Harden is dumped (even sound like he wanted to bail, if you believe the hearsay).

Durant could have stayed in Golden State. But he decided to leave on his own. He'd have more rings if he stayed with the Warriors. He also could have gone to the Heat. And I think that would be a far better situation.

But Nike ( Durant and Irving are Nike Signature athletes) wanted him with Joe Tsai to appease NBA China and Tencent.

Anybody else staying up to watch Bucks/Suns tonight?

Also, any chance Ibaka plays?  Clips are in Dallas today, and it's only a 2-hour flight to Phoenix.  Or are there too many moving parts with the 4-team trade for it to be officially consummated in time?

awwww, YEEEEaah! Derrick White in da Greenhizzie, y'all!! he eats us alive and is a perfect co-guard with Smaaaat (if this aint a two-stage stoopititty)

I don't understand this one from the Celts' perspective.  White is a nice player but he's like a better, more expensive version of Richardson.  If you pair White with Smart in the background, there's not enough shooting.  They'll pay an AAV of around $17M for his age 28-30 seasons.

Hornets getting Montrez Harrell from the Wiz for Vernon Carey and Ish Smith.  Plus pick?
Hornets kinda scare me.  Not scare me like they could BEAT the Bucks in a 7-game series, but scare me like they could definitely win a game or two and make the Bucks exert way more energy than they want to.

The Los Angeles Lakers do have a deal available to them to trade Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for John Wall, but they are balking at including the additional draft assets the Rockets are asking for, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reports on the NBA Today Trade Deadline special.

Only if the teams wave the physicals.  Even with that, it seems highly improbable.  Serge will probably make his Bucks debut at home Monday against the Trailblazers.  Same situation with the Suns getting Torrey Craig back from the Pacers for Sticks & a 2nd.

That high energy, push the pace stuff can work against a veteran team like the Bucks in the regular season.  In a playoff setting, with Jrue on Ball and Giannis on Bridges specifically, I'd be surprised if the Hornets took more than 1 game.  Never know though, Milwaukee likes to play with their food sometimes.

They definitely do.  That's a fact.

That is wild.

Simmons is a good fit with KD and Curry though.  Kyrie is still good at basketball too.  This is a very good team if Simmons and Kyrie keep their heads straight at the right time.
I think it was a massive over-pay by the Sixers and (assuming Simmons is ready to play) actually makes the Nets better. Simmons gives them a lock down defender that they didn't have - and they already have enough shooters (plus added Curry) and they also needed a big body in the middle which Drummond gives them.

Of course since Simmons wasn't suiting up it makes the Sixers better as well - they obviously need a Championship this year to make it worth it though and not sure this makes them a favorite.

The Mavericks are trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Wizards for a packaged centered on Spencer Dinwiddie, sources tell ESPN.

Hmmmm

Agreed - its at least market value on a player on an expiring deal who obviously didnt want to stay for whatever reason.  As a Nets fan I am excited to see how this team gels - there is no more big 3 but easily could be a better all around team....now if Kyrie could just play full time....

Mavs get Bertans too. Dallas clearing the decks for a player that fits better with Luka long-term?

I agree.  Sixers made the Nets much better if Simmons can regain confidence.  Hopefully there is another move or two and/or buyout guys for the Sixers still.

as i said in the non-sim draft, i'm a it's-not-the-shooter-it's-the-shot guy. White, who beat out Dejounte as often as vice versa in SanAntone, gives the Celts a drive option from up top. it might do what coaching no longer can - keep the Jays from starting plays. both of them are strokemonsters enough to fill it if they aint trying to be the man. we havent had a take-charge guy up top since Kancerie (Kemba was too quick to pop) and White is spoiling for that chance. if the Jays wont let him, we'll find that out and try sumn else.

It seems like a life-time ago but Simmons was an all-star level player - and his inability to shoot from beyond the arc won't mean as much in Brooklyn.
Yea.  He can hide on the Nets and just play defense. Curry let's them still have someone just sit outside waiting for a 3 too.  Great move by the Nets.

Very true.

And the Sixers had to make a deal if Harden was available.  They need someone who can create their own shot and hit open looks and work pick-and-roll with Embiid.  He is a good fit.
like i said - chill. you won. still waiting for suckers to bet me you didnt for charity.

Any Simmons zingers I make will return to me in Harden zingers.

Happy to retain Matisse even though he probably won’t develop bigly offensively in Philly but would have on another team not coached by Glenn. I would have liked a Mills and or Brown if Matisse had been in it.

We'll see. Brad's made his bed now.  The Celts won't have much flexibility even after Horford's gone.

I don’t know. I wouldn’t want any of those contracts.

Seriously.   Neither Bertans or Dinwiddie has performed to even half of their contracts.  Both may play better in a new environment.  But me thinks Porzingis is more skilled than both combined.

That being said, I don't really know what the Wiz are trying to accomplish.  The now have Pozingis, Gafford, and Bryant (all essentially centers).  And they will be rolling out Neto and Ish Smith at PG.  None of that sounds appealing.

It’s a lost year now that Beal is out so there are tanking benefits I guess. For an hour I thought Gafford would return to the rotation but who knows now.

If it wasn't Leonsis as owner I'd say tanking, but he doesn't do that.  So that means he and management think this team can make playoffs.  I think it's almost so Unseld has clearer rotations.  They've had a mess of rotations that lack cohesion.  This is pretty clear...

PG: Neto / Smith

SG:  Kispert  / KCP / Neto  (will be Beal on a max contract ... he's not turning down $250m)

SF:  KCP / Avdija

PF:  Kuzma /  Rui

C;   Porzingis / Bryant / Gafford
