2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (1 Viewer)

It just feels like forever. We have had games pretty much everyday since the start of the season. I like the every other day for the finals with maybe a 3rd day for the travel day.
It’s always been this way. Sunday night is better for TV than Saturday.

Draymond always ends up rolling around on the ground and on to the opposing team while flailing his arms all around.

Guy is the worst.

I still like what Draymond brings to a team, but he is getting dumber with age and I would let him leave as a free agent, whenever that is.

Of course they aren't going to call that. He can poke and prod and instigate all game long and the refs are just going to let him get away with it unless it is something clear and blatant.

Too many Boston TOs to end the half. Some junky shots thrown up by Tatum, but glad to see they weren't all horrible shots from just from 3. He's willing to take em from mid-range. I like that. Cut down the TOs next half, and I think Boston takes this. The crowd doesn't seem particularly engaged tonight.

They changed it like 5 to 7 years ago. It was always every other day and sometimes an extra day for travel.
I just randomly picked 2006 and there was a June 7 game and then game 2 was June 10. It’s been that way for a very long time now.

edit: June 8 to 11 for game 1-2 in 2005 as well.

I'm glad Udoka got a T. Draymond gets away with hyper aggressive defense, but Boston can't. Draymond's not punking the Celtics but the refs.

Just a Jays game tonight, literally nobody else showed up.

Half of Celtics turnovers are caused by drive-and-out of control last second kicks. I've noticed that most of these playoffs. They just gotta finish the drive and go up with it sometimes. Don't always need 3s.

This game? No.

In the past, sure. But this game the calls have been horribly one sided, so give me a break.
Celtics played more aggressive D in game 1.  Victory.

Warriors are playing more aggressive D tonight.

It’s nice to see a team out-Marcus Smart the actual Marcus Smart.

Feel free to add to my list because I am sure I am missing some, but trying to get the game 2 over reactions out of the way early.

Warriors are winning in 5, they did this with Klay being horrible.

Celtics can't win against the refs and the Warriors.

Tatum should just play point forward and be a distributor, like in game 1 when the Celtics won.

If the Celtics didn't turn the ball over this series would already be over.

The Celtics could've used a shooter/ball handler like Dragic.

Physical game. Personal fouls were only 16-13.

I always thought the Celtics would be unstoppable with a guy like Jrue Holiday. Smart is kind of like him, but just can't shoot as well.

It’s insane that fouls were only 18-17 (which is what ESPN shows).  Could have easily seen 25 fouls on GS.  Boston doesn’t get called for fouls usually (hi Marcus!), so it’s hard to compare this to their normal level.

This is the energy and urgency the Warriors should have came out with. Celtic fans should feel good about this because in the last 2 series these were games they threw away.

This didn't age well. After the first 8ish minutes they didn't play with any urgency.

my boys got played. let themselves get sucked into Draymond's reindeer games and, once they got all hyped, Dubs pulled the p&r nice&chilly out their back pockets and gutted em. well done -

First half was pretty fun as the Celtics had way too many TOs and the Ws couldn't make a damn layup.

The more I think about the Draymond shenanigans last night the more pissed off I get.

Dude got away with a crap-ton of non-basketball activity during and after plays and walked away with 1 tech and a win. The refs absolutely let him make a mockery of the game and its why Udoka finally just got himself a technical.

I don't know that Boston would have won that game if it was played straight up, but I would have liked to find out.  Instead we got a Draymond clown show with a side of basketball.

Foul counts don't mean as much by the end of the game as the timing of those fouls matter.  Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Grant Williams all got 2 fouls in the first quarter for 8 total and Golden State had 3 total.  The tone was set and Boston had to play the game with one hand tied behind their back while Draymond got to throw lead blocks, tackle guys (see Grant Williams link above) and instigate trouble even after getting 1 technical.

The officiating was spotty and inconsistent. Some calls in the paint were just plain bad (the one on Brown when he didn't touch anyone can serve as EXHIBIT A). Green got away with being a nuisance and an instigator. None of that had any bearing on the outcome of the game. Boston was sloppy, turned the ball over way too much, lacked their best effort, and mailed it in when the third quarter didn't go their way. Golden State played like the more desperate team, had a better / more consistent effort level, and far more deserved to win. The outcome of this one wasn't going to swing on a second T on Draymond and a couple more free throws for Boston if a few more fouls were called.
