2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (3 Viewers)

Probably because it got released,  Karlos was tweeting the comeback was real etc and a bunch of stuff the day prior.  Then Schefter needs to stake his claim from the poor guy at BuffaloRumblings - Schefter ALWAYS says the player will sign after his workout to get the credit, where the guy for Buffalo Rumblings actually reported he was just here for a workout.
The language is usually "is expected to sign". And he's right. He's expected to sign IF the workout goes well, IF he passes a physical and IF they can reach an agreement on a contract. Lots of ifs of course.

Incorrect, it's just Schefter trying to stake claim.  Rumblings reported it correctly- scheduled for a workout.  Even if it went well it wasn't a guarantee to sign.  It was the Bills just updating free agency pool rankings, they work out many that go unnoticed.  It was all over ESPN crawl last night still Schefter says Williams expected to sign, he jumped the gun and failed.  Man I hate Schefter.

I find this hard to believe.  Teams passed on a player who was a physical freak and "relied on his athleticism" and couldn't get by on speed and strength alone?

So what are you saying, they were afraid of teaching him "technique"?
Mayock called him afraid of contact. So that may explain his fall. As to why the Titans let him go, maybe he did not fit with Lebeau's scheme

:lmao:

And of course Dareus is going to be out today because of a hamstring injury he suffered in practice Friday. That's the type of stuff that happens when you come back after being suspended for 4 weeks...and when you play for the Bills.

I was actually wondering yesterday about the liklihood he gets hurt in today's game. I gues he didn't even make it that far.

Interesting stat: Lorenzo Alexander leads the league in sacks with 7. That's 2 more than Mario Williams had all of last year and 6 more than he has this year.

With the Niners and Dolphins up next, they have a legit shot of being 5-2 at the bye
Certainly possible.  I don't think I'd predict it but it's not out of the realm of possibility.  I know they own Tannehill but I'm always worried when they go to Miami.

It's a shame he's a one year wonder at best, being 33 and never doing anything like this before in his career. Another young edge rusher to compliment Hughes would have been a great find.

ETA: Hopefully Shaq Lawson fills in just as Alexander wears out.

It's ok. He flew with the team so he could consult a Californian doctor about managing his pain and he got a great script a man named "Ja Man" filled for him, so....oh wait, crap. There goes his season.

Me too.  I'm happy with this win.
Happy with the win, yes. Shady and the o-line did a smashing job.

I do worry about Tyrod's accuracy. I'm beginning to think that Tyrod is a middling QB whose occasional flashy plays deceives us into thinking otherwise. A team can win with him, but it needs to be built strong around him. He's never going to win games himself. He sails too many passes over his receivers' heads. It seems like he misses three or four easy first downs a game by just missing easy throws that an Andrew Luck or even an Alex Smith or Sam Bradford would hit 99% of the time.

This was a big win.  The Rams are definitely a flawed team - but they were 3-1 going into this matchup.  And traveling to the west coast is always difficult for an eastern team.

I know I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but checking the projections on 538 - the Bills have a 65% chance of making the playoffs.  http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-nfl-predictions/?ex_cid=rrpromo

Maybe it's the years of being snakebitten - but this looks overly optimistic.  There are a lot of tough games on the schedule this year.

Kind of nuts that Lawson and Ragland both got hurt and everyone freaked out, and then through 5 weeks Ragland's replacement is leading the league in tackles and Lawson's is leading the league in sacks.

I swear I'm back and forth on Whaley all the time, but that's pretty freaking impressive.

McCray who he traded for also forced a fumble.

A few days late here, but the Bills fans really showed up at the LA Colosseum last week.  Such a great time and happened to be the first time I've seen the Bills win in person since the 1991 AFC Championship game against the Raiders.  Between Games 3 and 5 this year, this has to be the best 14 day stretch for Bills fan in a decade.

They need to get through the middle part of the schedule still above .500 to still have some optimism.  NE, Seattle, Cincinnati, Raiders and Steelers are all brutal games that will require this team to play much better than they already have during this 3-game win streak against some suspect opponents.

Not really thrilled about Kaepernick starting this week.  On one hand, I'm sure the crowd will be fired up....there were even people whining about Kaepernick in the crowd during the Arizona game, for whatever reason.  But on the other hand, the media spotlight will be here and I'm sure the Niners will come fired up and ready to go, looking to support their coach and QB.  On paper it's still one of the easier games on the schedule and a game they really should win if they hope to be taken seriously.....but I really wish Blaine Gabbert was in at QB.

Kaepernick went vegan and lost a ton of weight and strength.  He couldn't beat out Gabbert for the job.  He is weak and is going to be a disaster.  The media stuff is just a sideshow that can't change any of that.

I hope so.  Gotta think Chip Kelly wouldn't be starting him if he didn't think he was a better candidate to win the game though.  Might not be saying much because Gabbert is pretty terrible.

The worst thing about this week will be all the racist lunatics coming out of the WNY woodwork to scream at Kap.

I really don't want to see that kind of ugly in the Ralph. I hope I'm wrong about it.

it'll happen regardless, there will be two bag eggs that make all of Buffalo looks bad.  Deadspin will be all over it as they post anything they can find from the parking lot.  In game, I don't think anything bad will happen.  I think they'll boo him when he comes on the field and maybe sing the national anthem during parts of the game.

...and maybe sing the national anthem during parts of the game.
Lol...

Announcer voice: "It's 3rd and 15 from the Buffalo 42 with 17 seconds to go. The 49ers are down by 2... Kaepernick steps up to the line. He takes the snap... drops back... The crowd starts singing the national anthem, and what's this? Kaepernick takes a knee!?!?"

There were seriously people talking about it in my section during the Arizona game.  I don't think you'll see/hear anything stupid on the telecast but I can only imagine some of the things we'll hear in the stands.

So I guess bringing my 9 year old son to see the game, and raising my fist in solidarity during the anthem won't go over well?

This is exactly why I decided to skip this game. My kid doesn't need to be exposed to that kind of ugly yet.

Shady, you may be great to watch run the ball, but time and time again whenever you do anything but run on the field, you prove to everyone that you're an incredibly stupid ahole.

Because he's inviting police to the game? And asking fans to be respectful to Kawpernick? What is it he did that's got you all worked up?

I'm of the same fear. In hockey reference, I hate when a goalie is pulled - seems like it changes team & 2nd guy has something to prove. I get Kaep is a backup and no Brady at QB, but with all focus on him this year I really fear the old (young?) Kaep that runs for 150.

Yeah, I don't get it. I didn't read up on the details around his police invite thing, but I assumed it was an effort to make ammends for his fight in Philly. The timing didn't seem possible that it was a Kaep taunt - just coincidence. I could be totally wrong...

Wait a minute.  So being against what Kap is doing makes you a racist?

Reread what I posted. I said the worst part would be the racist people screaming at Kap. How does that mean everyone who screams at Kap is racist? Though, I am having a hard time imagining people screaming at him for other things. Getting loud when the 49ers have the ball? Sure. Screaming at their QB specifically? Hmmmm....why?

As for this -

" So being against what Kap is doing makes you a racist?"

I ain't touching that here at all. We have a pretty awesome thread going. No need to fling crap all over the walls with that discussion.

All in all not a bad day.  Crowd was generally pretty good about the Kaepernick thing.....there were definitely some people giving the middle finger, yelling obscenities, etc. at him but no one did anything overly stupid.  Just the usual Deadspin hijinks (guy drinking beer out of some girl's ### crack) and some ugly Kaepernick-related t-shirts.

Another one of those confidence-building wins.  Defense looked good again, save for that totally blown coverage on the Smith TD.  The Niners were most effective with Kaepernick's running, but had very little offense otherwise.

I still shudder to think about this team trying to come back from a 10-point deficit, though.  The Bills have been in control of every game since Watkins has been out....which is great, of course, but means that the WRs/TEs/passing game haven't been asked to do too much.  They had 3 straight 3-and-outs at the beginning of the second half, which I think featured no McCoy runs.  It's amazing how much he's doing for the offense right now - not even just running effectively, but opening up the passing game for Tyrod.

At Miami next week....another "prove to me you're for real" game.  The Steelers went there today and got beat...Bills will need to be on their game.

I'm actually glad that Miami beat the Steelers this week and Ajayi rushed for 200. It'll make the team take this game very seriously, as opposed to looking ahead.

Their passing game is terrible. If any of you have the interest and patience to look at the All-22 coverage, I'd love to know if the receivers just can't get open or if Tyrod is that gunshy. There were many plays were it seemed like he was just standing in the pocket FOREVER before either running or throwing it to a checkdown. He just kept looking and looking and looking....

That was a fun atmosphere yesterday.  O-line just really wore them down in the second half.  Enjoying it today and hopefully we bring it into Miami.  Possibly getting Lawson and/or Dareus back for the rotation in the Miami heat.  You know Mario will actually put in some effort this week.

They have Miami, New England, and Seattle before the bye. If they win two of those, I will begin to believe. If they get crushed by New England and Seattle, we'll know they're no better than they were last year.

Mario Williams got benched to start the game yesterday and only played 16 snaps. Good riddance.

And how much of an absolute steal does McCoy look like right now? McCoy for Alonso and Hughes for Sheppard may be the two biggest trade swindles in the last 10 years.

I'll say if they win 2 of the next 4 I'll start to believe this might be a playoff team.  6-4 with @ Jets, vs. Miami, vs. Cleveland, vs. Jacksonville to play.  (Also @ Oakland and vs. Pitt).  All of those games look winnable to me.....if they're "for real", they can get to 10 wins against that schedule.

But really, if they beat Brady and Pats at home, who among us won't think they're playoff bound? It would take a colossal disaster for them to miss out then.

Like it or not, the Pats are the yardstick.

Not that losing to them dooms the Bills - far from it - but beating NE would be highly significant, mathematically, emotionally, mentally.
