2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (5 Viewers)

Joe Marino‏ @TheJoeMarino 28m28 minutes ago

From @AllbrightNFL: "The #Bills have deliberately made known their interest in Josh Allen. Take that for what you will." Also said same source made him aware of interest in Nate Peterman last year.
Beane wasn't the GM when they took Peterman. The Bills have run a tight ship since McDermott and Beane came to town. There's been very little leaked regarding releases, signings, trades, draft selections. So I doubt that they would let that slip if he was really their guy. They may want people to think that so they don't also trade up to take one of the QBs they want.
They have a new GM but the SAME SOURCE who leaked the Peterman interest last year leaked the Josh Allen interest this year.

I gotta admit, I kinda trust these guys.  If they have first pick of the QB’s and they want Allen, then I’m gonna trust they know a heck of a lot more than you and I. As long as they truly get “their guy”, then I don’t care if it’s Allen, Rosen, Darnold Mayfield or even Jackson.  I’ll feel a lot better though if they do have the first pick of QB’s so we know they are getting the guy they want.

I will say however that I am torn because my last name is Allen and it would be pretty awesome to have a Bills jersey with my name on it.

With the QBs being so jumbled and so close, having your first pick of QBs is different this year.  Unless the team with the first choice falls into the same thinking as you there is a chance you can get your first choice outside of the first pick overall. And its so incredibly much cheaper to go and acquire the 2, 3, or 4.

I don’t know if team scouts and GM’s are as scrambled as the media is.  I think the GM’s know exactly who they like and who they think fits what they want.  My guess is Beanne has one guy way above the rest.  He’s not doing all this to settle on the 2nd or 3rd guy on his list.

You dont think the GMs are split between Darnold, Allen and Mayfield?

And Rosen.  But no.  Not like the media is.

The GM’s aren’t putting out a list of “top 5’s”.  They are looking for certain traits.  And staying away from certain traits.

Some GM’s probably have 2 or 3 instantly eliminated from their list just because they don’t fit what they are looking for.

But im sure there’s still tough decisions when it comes down to it, but they’re not ranking the QB’s like we are.

But they’re just ranking.  Not fitting them to a specific scheme or team idea.

You think Beanne is going to trade up to get 1 of 2 or 3 guys?  Sure, they may be equally talented, but so different.
No I dont think that.

I think they have a chance to trade up to get their guy while also watching another qb or two already be off the board -- because of the jumble I mentioned.

Ah.  Ok.

But what if “our” guy is taken before us?  I’d be disappointed to not know we got exactly the guy we traded up to get all along.

The quote is worded in a way that doesn't necessarily mean that the source is a team source.

And if it is a team source, it doesn't mean that that source isn't putting out a smokescreen this year.

Of course. Have to agree to that.

I badly wanted Marcus Peters to Pittsburgh and the Chiefs jumped us  ... then the next year was drooling over Aaron Donald to watch him go two picks earlier    .

But the cost of moving to the 1-spot?  Your two first this year, first next year and probably an additional 2nd. Damn. But moving to the 3, saves you that extra 1st next year.

Incognito redid his deal. No additional years added, so no clue what that means. Maybe just took a pay cut to stick around?

Also, still no number for the Lotulelei deal. Crazy.

Figures finally out on the Star Lotulelei deal and...oof...that is a bad deal for the Bills. 5 years, $50M, $25M guaranteed and $35M over the first 3 years. Yuck.

He does seem to have heavy bias to players he's coached before.  This front office makes a lot of goofy moves.  A lot of them have worked out so far, but I'm not sure how much of that is just them being lucky.
Tolbert was terrible. And that Ivory contract is ridiculous as well.

The Ivory contract makes no sense. Why pay a mediocre backup (who let's face it may not even be available when you need him) that much when you aren't exactly flush with cap space? I've always liked Ivory but his time in the league has come and gone.

I think the staff saw something they liked in the playoff game against the Jags where he had 1 carry for 2 yards

Preston gone to the Bengals.

Who’s gonna man the middle for us?  Any decent FA’s out there still?  Do we draft one early to hopefully start?

It appears this is why they're making such a heavy emphasis on the DL, and appear to have overpaid for Lotulelei. Freeing up the LBs, which will most likely be young, athletic guys.

Welp, looks like the Bills are screwed and all that moving up and trading players is for nothing unless the Giants want to trade down. And with what the Jets gave up, it's going to be a very high price.

I wouldn't say that. I think most fans assumed since they kept wheeling and dealing that the ultimate goal was to get into the top 2-3, but I'm not sure if that was a forgone conclussion (I'd love to know what the Bill's front office is thinking now). They signed McCarron and still have Peterman- maybe they are planning on staying put and seeing if the 4th-5th QB is still on the board when they pick?

That being said, it's frustrating to watch the Jets do a better job at solidifying the QB position than the Bills. Still pissed about not signing Bridgewater, I'd feel much better right now if they had.

If the Bills managed to stay at 12 and get Jackson, I would actually be ok with that.

If they give up a King's ransom to trade up for Allen, I'm not going to be happy at all.

I think it’s possible Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson both fall to them at 12. People go a little QB crazy in mocks this time of year.

NYG are standing pat and taking a QB imo. i think they would have taken NYJ's bounty of picks to move down 4 spots otherwise.

It would definitely be Billsy to sit here with a million picks in a QB-rich draft and manage to miss out on all the QBs.
could end up being a fine (non) move. Buffalo can improve a lot of different positions and honestly this qb draft feels a lot like the 1999 qb draft. highly touted but some of these guys have enormous bust potential. Buffalo has a lot of draft caiptal and it would be pretty Billsy to move up and take Akili Smith instead of standing pat and using those picks on multiple contributors. just an outsider's opinion, but i think this qb class is highly overrated

They could also move some of their capital from this year to next, and give AJ the reigns for the year to see how that goes.

^totally agree

i think sans moving up for the 1st overall pick, Buffalo is looking at moving up to 4 or 5 for what could end up being their 4th-rated QB. and they would have to give up a ton to get there.

we just watched a season that had Brady and then 3 guys in the championship games. but those 3 guys had amazing rosters built heavily through the draft. Rodgers has been to one Super Bowl. Brees as well. meanwhile, we have seen Flacco, Foles, a Denver offense that was nearly held out of the end zone the entire Super Bowl, a 3rd rounder in Russell Wilson all win Lombardis over the past half decade or so because their roster was well rounded with cheapish homegrown talent.

the media says move up for the 4th best QB. reality says you guys have a pretty good core, a chest of draft capital, and if you use it wisely you have a chance of making a real run.

I can see QBs going top 4 now.  A bit worried that the Bills are going to get shutout, it only takes one other team to do a stupid deal with Cle that the Bills don't want to match.

I don't want a stupid deal for the #4 guy on the board. So they may be looking at one of the second tier guys at 12 and keeping the bounty of picks they have.

I know most of us don’t really know anything about evaluating NFL predraft talent, but I think it’s fun to post our thoughts on here and revisit them 1, 2 or 5 years down the road. After listening to an interview with Baker Mayfield earlier this week, I want to go on record and say I believe he will be the second coming of Ryan Leaf.  I hope I’m wrong, especially if the Bills somehow get in a position to draft him. In the interview he just really sounded like a knucklehead.

Agreed. I have been saying that about Mayfield for a while now.  He has the "next Ryan Leaf" written all over him. If I am wrong, I will say it, but it's hard to imagine a knucklehead like him having what it takes to be an NFL leader.
