2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (1 Viewer)

That would be an excellent move. If they start cutting character guys then they'll be left with an unestablished QB, a star RB that didn't want to go there and an OL that was released/suspended because he was too much of a jerk too his team mates. And the captain of this is a loud mouth coach with a tattoo of his wife with in a division rival's jersey. Could be a train wreck.

 
Tim Graham was tweeting that the Bills see McCoy as their clear #1, Brown as his backup, and Dixon as the #3/special teams guy.

I'm not really buying the Powell talk, but I think that Jackson could already be on the outside looking in. The Bills had 4 RBs last year due to the injuries. Brown was inactive a lot. I doubt they go into the season with 4 half backs again, especially since Roman will almost certainly want a FB for his system as well.

Move Dixon to FB and have 3 RBs in Jackson, McCoy, Brown? I think if Jackson is used a relief and Brown as a back up. Jackson may be willing to help the team and restructure his contract if they let him know they plan to keep him as a coach (or whatever) after he retires. That said, he has zero ties to Rex.

Powell is pretty under-rated and is a pretty versatile back. He's by no means an elite talent, but he could get the job done for a game or two if called upon and can spell McCoy. He'll definitely come fairly cheap as well.

I understand Jackson is well loved in Buffalo, but at 34 how much longer do the fans think he has left?

There are many studies that have shown that age is the much bigger determinant than workload when it comes to the decline of a RB. In fact the RBs that were most successful after age 31, all were heavy workload type backs (i.e. Emmitt, Martin).

What I don't get is, what did they think they were going to get out of FJax this coming year when they signed him to an extension during training camp last year?

I like clay a lot, especially with watkins keeping things open and cassel who shouldn't try forcing things to him. The offense could be solid while the D remains strong. not enough to catch the Patriots but wild card possibilities.

He has zero guaranteed money left, so it was basically just a free team-option. There is no cap hit if they release him.

Powell isn't bad, but he isn't going to contribute much either- I'd much rather have a respected veteran leader like FJax than Powell in this case.

If that's the case, then FJax already is the exception to the rule because he had one of his best seasons ever at age 32 (almost 33).

People are acting like he was MJD last year- 3.7 ypc isn't great, but the O-line was atrocious. He also caught a career high 66 passes for over 500 yards. I think he has enough in the tank to give them another 100 touches, and he means so much more to them than just that.

Why would they cut Fred? Seems like the consumate team player and a good dude. Indy should have him on speed dial if he's cut.

I like Fred Jackson too, but it's a business.

At least for now, I'm completely fine with what the team has done so far. Some of that is me giving Rex the benefit of the doubt -- I have absolutely no problem with him putting his stamp on our roster.

Yeah, I'm not really expecting much more than what they got out of Orton last year. Though I suppose that 1 more win could get them to the playoffs.

Cassel is a scrub, just like Orton, most-likely EJ, and the rest of the revolving door at the Bills QB position for the past decade.

I'm still excited to see what the new coaching staff does. This team is far from the Super Bowl, but isn't far from the playoffs. Sucks to view simply making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round as some massive achievement, but, well, look where the team is coming from :bag: .

Ya man gotta leave football stuff to football guys. These billionare owners just lack the sophistication it takes to earn "football guy" expertise.

Thank God no meddling owner interfered with the glorious Watkins/McCoy trades.

Now we have a worthless 11yr old RB locked up in 2019.

It's not like the Eagles don't have a bunch of other options for a RB, including the draft. If Chip was really relying on the signing of a 32 year old RB to be his long term sub for McCoy, then the guy really is nuts.

If we put an offer in for Clay it's gonna have to be pretty substantial to pry him away from Miami.

If we sign him or anyone else, how are we going to resign and keep Darius? We're gonna be strapped for cash next year. Don't we have to resign like 3 or 4 important guys next year?

 
Wow, 4 years for $24M and $10M guaranteed for Searcy. That's more than Aaron Wiliams.

For anybody worried about Buffalo's ability to extend guys like Dareus, Gilmore, Glenn and Bradham: the Bills have $36M of cap space next year still. And that's before it inevitably raises. So they have plenty of room to extend those guys.

 
I don't think we need too much more help on the o-line. We need depth but that's it. I really think Kouandjio is going to be a good guard in this power blocking system. Incognito and Woods on the interior. Glenn and Henderson on the outside.

:lmao: McCoy talking about how OC Roman told him that he got Fran Gore the ball every way they could. When that clown was OC in SF, Gore's catches dropped dramatically. McCoy has no idea what he is in for. He does have big money in his pocket though to keep him happy.

 
So much for the Jake Locker option. Retired at age 26.

This has to be the strangest offseason since Reggie White broke open free agency.

 
I was a little down on the McCoy trade when the story first broke. But the more we see of Phili's offseason, the more I think the Bills cashed in early on Chip Kelly's insanity.
