2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (4 Viewers)

None issue. It's a story for one day. The NFL will have something else today.

If the kid makes it as a reserve cool, if he gets cut cool.

Cant remember where I saw it but a quote from Rex was along the lines of 'I wanna see Shady Rush for 1000 yards and Receive for 1000 yards.

Is he be pushing Roman to involve the RBs a lot more in the passing game?

I had a feeling this would happen. As soon as IK was cut I said to myself, watch someone in the division pick him up. Wouldn't have surprised me if the Pats signed him too. But Rex being who he is, I wasn't surprised at all.

I took a half day to go hang out get some lunch at the Tree, and then hang out and grill with some family/friends. Be there at 1230....

I couldn't find anyone to give my tickets to. Literally couldn't give them away. I hate that they make us buy the preseasons with the regular seasons.

It sucks and I agree, however the first two games, are worth like 3-5 times what my ticket costs.

Do you have any extra's for the Kid's day game?

Side note - Did you see/opt in for playoff tickets - Which is funny. IF we make it, they charge your account the day they clinch between 12/13 and 1/9/16 and the Wildcard game if home is the same cost as regular season. If we were to ever host an AFC championship it would be like 1.5 times your ticket - STILL crazy cheap.

I got that email but only skimmed it because I was out of town. What's the details again? Did I miss the cutoff? I made a mental note to check it when I got home on Monday but it totally slipped my mind until you just brought it up.

It's a payment plan for playoff tickets. You have to opt in though to be guaranteed tickets. You only will be charged the card you have on file once we clinch a home playoff game (IF) - It's probably so they don't have to chase people around in such a short turn-around and get people saying. "I'm guaranteed, I have seasons and miss payment due dates" You have until 9/10

Wildcard ticket is the same price as your regular season ticket

Divisional - Mine goes up $23.00 a ticket more.

AFC Championship - Mine goes up $42.00 a ticket more

It definitely sucks. What can you do? They got you.

Going to the game tonight with my 2 boys. They've never been to an NFL game before (I know this is pre-season, but still) Company game me 3 seats in the Jim Kelly Club. I've never been in there before.

Anyone have seats there before? Just curious on the amenities.

Just nicer bathrooms shared with far less, and a nice bar and lobby area and seats inside you have access too if you guys want to eat in there before. Food options are alittle better. Enjoy!

Pretty much this. Much nicer than the standard concourses.

Thoughts from the game?

Cassel looked really good. He should have been a perfect 8/8. Showed good pocket presence. The back shoulder throw to Sammy on 3rd down was perfect, under pressure.

The OLine held up pretty well.

I think Shady is going to make a lot of Bills fans realize how bad Spiller was at attacking the hole.

I was also pretty impressed with Darby for as often as they went at him. The deep plays to Funchess and Ginn Jr. were really well covered - they were just a really nice routes (not too close to sideline) and throws.

He looked average, not good, not really good. He completed a slew of short passes and didn't f@#k up in a preseason game against a middling defense. Let's not get crazy.

Tyrod, on the other hand, looked extremely promising. Not just the scrambles (and he did take off a bit too soon at times - that will get him killed in the reg season), but the deep throws were perfect; it wasn't his fault the bench warmers let those balls slide through their hands. Sammy would have been doing touchdown dances.

Agreed. Miller, in particular, looked like a beast. I was also surprised to see Urbek starting ahead of Incognito. I didn't know LG was still a competition.

Amen.

Seriously? Darby got schooled a couple times by tall Carolina receivers jumping over him. If he had showed more ball awareness, he might have got a hand up, but no. In general the Carolina receivers were catching the deep ball very well, even against Gilmore. It was concerning.
I also want to echo Tasker - Karlos Williams looked like a powerhouse back. He'll be our #2 RB when the season opens. If this firstroundless draft produces him and Miller, we have to call it a win. I'm sure Darby will make strides as well and at least turn into a quality nickel back (I hope).

My thoughts:

- all three QBs looked adequate. Cassel was efficient if uninspired. I feel like he didn't throw a ball past like 10 yards other than that one to Charles Clay. Taylor was "electric" but I feel like he's an injury waiting to happen. Manuel had one dreadful pass to O'Leary but otherwise had a few drops that weren't his fault. Nice throw on that TD.

- OL held up better than I was anticipating, but I have no idea how decent the Carolina DL is. I'd only heard of one of their 4 starters. John Miller held his own.

- I really like Karlos Williams, hope he can hold up, upright runners always take a beating and tend to be injury-prone.

- Run D was superb, but as soon as Carolina started throwing downfield, the Bills were exposed. I didn't think Darby was terrible but he certainly wasn't good. He was out there against second-stringers and still got picked on all day. I wouldn't expect him to step in and be a superstar though, he was a second round pick for a reason. I think part of this may have been due to the Bills blitzing a lot though in the second half. They weren't getting the push that they get from the first-team DL and were blitzing more, leaving the secondary exposed. I did think Aaron Williams had a good game and noticed Bacarri Rambo making a few big plays. Pass D is probably my biggest concern - outside of QB - at this point.

I think cassel Tyrod Taylor could do some damage if the scheme is right. Don't be surprised if he has a probowl worthy season
Perhaps Rex will be too chicken #### to do it but Roman ran the read option in SF. With McCoy, Harvin and Watkins if Tyrod starts I could see him putting up similar numbers to Vick in Philly a few seasons back.
Still holding my breath/calling my shot here with him starting this week. Really like everything I've seen out of him even though it has an aura of preseason darling to it.

I dunno. I just re-watched the first two series, and Cassel did nothing wrong. He quickly found an open receiver and quickly got the ball to him, while staying calm. Haven't the rest of you been screaming at your TV for the past 15 years for a QB to get the ball out of his hands? Sure there was nothing down field, but I figure that was in large part because of the play calling since they were behind the chains a lot.

Going to re-watch Tyrod's series at some point today...

2nd and 10 from the 12 - Tyrod missed a wide open Marqueis Gray for a TD.

Two deep(ish) incompletions were a bit off the mark - too far outside.

Overall, a very good game, considering all the plays he did make. It's only one game, but so far the top 2 QBs are looking good. I'd take EJ out of the competition and get these two more reps.

PS, those two deep balls Darby gave up were covered perfectly. There was really nothing he could have done better. And, after the second one he broke up the next two passes. He got turned around a bit on the next one. I'm impressed, for a rookie, for sure.

Is it just me, or did it look like Cassel had to absolutely muscle every 10 yard pass? The guy has terrible arm strength. Or at least it looks that way. Even then it didn't come out all that fast.

Maybe there's a reason he only threw short passes...

Seems like EJ is dropping out of the competition.

I dont agree with the choice, but it is smart to limit first team reps to two QBs at this point, whoever gets picked needs practice time and chemistry.

Would love to see them make a choice sooner rather than later.

Seems like they almost have to make the call after game 2. One game of tape for each, and game 3 to get whoever wins the battle ready for the season. Manuel can start and finish game 4.

Ty Powell with possible ACL tear today. That's not good. Injuries starting to stack up on the defense.

And Karlos Williams woke up with a ton of pain and went to the hospital this morning.

WTF!?! Ugh...injuries already. I know all of them are to backups so far, but these are VERY important backups.

I'm excited to see Tyrod start. Cassel looked fine, not amazing but he was efficient and got the ball to where it needed to be, and quickly. It did seem like he was using all of his arm strength to "zip" those passes though. I didn't see much of EJ except the scrambling play where he was at the sideline and tried to hit the receiver but was a good 10 yards short. Darby played alright. That long pass to Ginn was perfect and he had good coverage. The Benjamin TD was bad though. At least make it look like you had a chance at the ball. McCoy didn't flash much, but when he did it was cool to watch.

Welcome back Ellis Lankster

I understand that coaches have "their guys", and it's not like the Bills are recycling the entire Jets team, but I'm starting to get a little perturbed at all of the ex-Jets coming here. Not sure how I feel about the Bills getting a bunch of re-treads from a team that wasn't very good last year.
This guy just wants to stick it to the Jets... Picking up a guy who punched their QB and another that was waived is right in his wheelhouse. Players like him which is a positive, but he sucks as a coach so there's that.

I have nothing against the Bills, am not a Jets fan, but watching Rex crash and burn is a good time.

Just bringing in bottom of the roster guys to compete and perhaps contribute on special teams is a non-issue. Yes Rex has an opinion on both, however it's not like he brought in Michael Vick etc. Most coaches that got fired, tend to bring a handful of players with them to their new team. I liked Lankster when he was in Buffalo and now with Powell likely out the year IK might be a more important depth player if he makes the roster.

Entertaining game for a preseason game. Did they enjoy the club seats as well?

Arrived at our seats just as the national anthem started (really wanted them to see the introductions of the players, but the traffic in was real bad.)

It was a great preseason game. Got to see all the Bills QB's play (Even Simms on the last 2 drives)

Cassel was very accurate, but nothing long. Only incompletion was dropped.

Taylor looked good scrambling and evading the rush.

EJ even looked pretty good. His first series, Center snapped the ball high which resulted in a sack, and then on the next play, it was snapped before he was even ready. All of his other incompletions were dropped.

Club seat section was great, we were on the end basically on the goal line opposite side of the scoreboard. All the Bills TD's were right in front of us and Carolina's last TD and 2PT conversion as well.

Food was very good, expensive, but that's expected. My son was flabbergasted that a bottle of water cost $4.75. (We picked up a 40 pack of water from Sam's the next day for a party and he commented that the whole case of 40 was cheaper than 1 bottle at the stadium.)

People sitting next to us told my sons after the game that they got the full Bills experience as they blew it at the end. :lmao:

Driving home sucked as they were doing roadwork on the Thruway in 2 different spots and reduced it to one lane. (You'd think they'd shut down for one nigh due to the Bills game traffic)

Made it home just before the storms though and I was glad of that, some places north of Buffalo got 7 inches of rain

Overall it was a great experience for them.

Signed Quentin Groves for some LB depth. Still need to replace Wynn and a Week 1 replacement of Dareus. Perhaps camp cuts in September.

I think it's going to be Tyrod unless he regresses. If everything else is equal you have to go with the younger player with upside. It would really be a coup if he develops into a competent starting QB.

This isn't dynasty league FF, this is actual results-oriented football.
That's my thought, as well. This team doesn't need a high risk high reward type of playmaker at QB. They need a game manager that can let the defense and skill players win games. If Tyrod can prove that he can protect the ball, and not make mistakes, I'm all for it, but I don't want a QB that turns the ball over or misses open receivers.

This next game should be very interesting...
