2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (2 Viewers)

I don't necessarily have a problem with Rob Ryan but I would like to have a better understanding of what exactly he's going to be doing. Just an overall defensive consultant with no designated position group? I'm not sure I really have a problem with that....I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing to have a guy with 10+ years of NFL DC experience as an advisor.

So not only have the Bills sent me a mailing and an invoice to renew my season tickets by 1/29, I just got a phone call from a ticket rep once again confirming the renewal deadline. They must be really worried about ticket dropoff once the NFL season ends, eh?

They aren't going to be active in free agency. They want as many commitments prior. Since I can remember the first payment wasn't due until the first week in March.

Looks like we're going ##### deep w/Rex's defense next year and foregoing any pretense of trying to merge his system w/Schwartz's. I get the logic behind it, but if it doesn't pay off...

Lol, 2 offseasons in a row multiple reporters have claimed that Marrone was the #1 head coach available and that teams were clamoring to hire him. And 13 teams have now passed him up.

I always liked to think that I was not the kind of person to laugh at another's misfortune, but Doug Marrone has proved me wrong and taught me something about myself.

 
Strong words from Tyrod -

I've answered this before! A hot dog is not a sandwich. A hot dog is just a hot dog. I understand it's on a bun, but a bun doesn't make it a sandwich. If you go to a restaurant, you have a burgers section and a sandwich section. They don't fall under the same section. So that theory of “a bun makes it a sandwich” is incorrect and false. So, no. A hot dog is not a sandwich. Neither is a hamburger.

I wanna say good riddance to Mario and his salary, but he's still such a great player.   He's gonna go to the right system and be a beast.  If Schwartz was still our D coordinator I'm guessing we would gladly be paying every penny of Marios contract.

I'm not so sure. He always had decent end of year stats, but there was also always huge chunks of games and parts of the season where he didn't look like he was giving 100%. That was a criticism of him going back to his days with Houston as well. It's frustrating to have a guy making that much money and have him take off so many plays. Von Miller played almost the exact same role that Mario was asked to play this year and Miller played at 100% all the time and was a beast.

Signing Mario was still the right move as it helped change the perception of the Bills as a team that was stingy and wouldn't pay free agents. But if you pay someone that much money, you expect them to play hard all the time too. Taking huge chunks of plays off kills a defense.

I don't know if he 'took plays off' but he would definitely disappear for a few games, then suddenly reemerge for a string of multi-sack games.

Anyone know why Kiko keeps getting traded?

Is it an injury thing?

I'm kinda surprised they sent him to the Dolphins. Trading Maxwell I get: it's a salary dump. But why Kiko as well?

 
Well, whether our not you like his character, Incognito is back. Not everyday that a Pro Bowler takes a discount to stay with the Bills, bug that's exactly what happened in this case.

Well, there'll be 2 games next year Mario definitely goes hard every play.

 
reddit's reporting that Scott Chandler is likely retired due to knee complications.

I always like the guy and, despite going to the Pats, was pulling for him to have a good career there as their #2 TE.

It's a shame.

 
Question for the die-hard Bills fans, since Whaley and Rex are in the hot seat of make the playoffs in 2016 or they're both fired, what are the chances that Whaley trades the Bills 2017 1st round ( and or 2nd round) picks to help them this year?  I don't think it's a deep or strong draft and I have no idea how good the 2017 supposed draft class is going to be compared to this year's but I would think it's a good chance that the Bills trade a high 2017 pick to help them in this year's draft.

Thoughts??

No way after they just did it for Watkins, a trade that is very much looking like a knee jerk reaction when so many other talented WRs could have been taken later.

Besides, it's looking like quality DL or LB help will be there at 22, and that's exactly what Rex wants.

ETA: DL and to a lesser extent LB, are both positions that can have immediate impacts as rookies too.

Heard the Bills are working on a blockbuster trade right now. Via a friend of mine who works in the media department at One Bills Drive. 

 
So, the trade would break down to 

Bill get: #2 overall from Browns

Broncos get: Tyrod Taylor

Browns get: Bills 2016 1st and 2nd, 2017 3rd; Broncos 2016 1st, Broncos unidentified roster player

It's still being worked out now, though...

 
Hopefully this doesn't happen, but it's effectively Tyrod, a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd rounder for a QB who probably won't be as good as Tyrod?  Sounds about right for the Bills... :wall:

I thnk that rumour was dreamt up by a Browns fanatic with little sense of reality

Agreed. They were talking about this all afternoon on Cleveland sports talk radio after the rumor was put out by some blog. There hasn't been a peep out of a single Bills reporter that I follow. This is pure Browns fan fantasy.

 
It's a bit crazy, but I won't call it stupid if they really think Goff can do what Winston and Mariota did last year, only with a more talented Bills roster.

Maybe they think Tyrod's ceiling was what we saw last year. He's good not great. His playing style also makes a full 16 game season often in doubt. He's in a walk year. Negotiations have broken down and the Bills are understandably gun-shy due to being burned by Fitz's deal in the past and because they are up against the cap. So they trade a walk-year QB and a second rounder to move up to the #2 spot in the draft to take Goff, who they would then have for four or five years on the cheap. 

I'm just saying, if Goff is really that good (I have no idea), it's not a bad idea.

IMO it's bat#### crazy.  FYI, you're missing an additional 1st and 3rd rounder that they'd be giving up besides Taylor and a 2nd rounder.

Winston and Mariota played well last year- for rookies.  Neither one was close to doing what Taylor did, so even in the best case scenario where these guys are as good as the top guys from last year (which isn't likely IMO), the Bills would be taking a step back next year at the QB position.  I understand there's more to consider, and I'm not the biggest Taylor fan nor do I think they should give him a huge contract extension, but just pointing out reality.  The Bills have a legitimate shot at the playoffs next season if they can gel and stay healthy- all of that goes out the window with a rookie QB.

Bottom line- if this was Luck we were talking about I'd say go for it.  It's not.

 
Don't worry about those trade rumours boys. I will be in charge of the Bills in the ever important Shark Pool Mick Draft. And we aren't going to be over paying to move up.
