2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (2 Viewers)

Auburn didn't want to play?
AU grad, what we saw is exactly what I expected.  The O-Line is trash, the QB is trash, and the WR corps have no playmakers.  The defense was good enough to win, and quality RB who are trying to dodge tacklers in the backfield the moment they get the ball.

What are we thinking on Miss St -10.5?  I love Mike Leach and I want him to stick it to Texas Tech but.......he has killed me in n bowl games in the past.
I took the Leaches -10, thinking if he gets any chance to throw one last dagger td to rub it in he will.  But yeah, it's Leach so I'm not strutting around confidently.

I don't see a lot of caring.

Now 3 games in a row SEC hasn't cared in the Bowls.  Only care about playoff games apparently.

Considering my second observation above, the play on MSU was idiotic.  Big red X.

You did play AF heavy, yes?  I did too.  :hifive:

Did you end up playing Nevada or passing?

Air Force was my biggest play of the season, yes.  Loved watching that 10+ minute drive in the 4th.  Followed by another grinder in which they ended up kneeling to finish them off.  Vintage Air Force, you have to respect the way they play the game.

I was surprised by some of the long pass plays early.  They had gone 93 plays in row without one, and all of a sudden were breaking off big pass plays.  Coaches did their homework (L'Ville had holes in their secondary with the portal and injuries).

That makes military schools what, 38 - 14 ATS in Bowls?

As for Nevada, I missed the it, slept in (super hungover), had no idea it kicked.  That sucked, I would've faded them.  Colorado State took everything but the footballs from that place.

ETA taking Miss State at half if TTech gets a TD here before half.  Miss State gets the ball and their D has looked much better that those first pathetic drives.

Somebody pick this Minnie / WV game.  Opened at 6 1/2 Minnie, down to 5.  Is there any news?  Never watched a play this year from either team.

I would rather be watching Incarnate Wood getting blown out by Texas State in hoops than this crap bowl.

Holy crap does Texas Tech hate Leach.  Would've loved to have known it was next level.

IMO

The reason for pulling for the conference doesn't really relate directly to winning or losing. It's the money that comes with all of the winning. That's what really means more and that isn't a joke.

Oh yeah, and the beating Clemson in the playoffs is another personal reason for me but that isn't the conference. I'm pulling for the field regardless of the conference.

No, it’s for the Mississippi States, South Carolinas and Floridas of the conference to feel some success.

Nobody actually cares about their conference except the non-Alabama SEC teams who glom off their success. That’s literally the joke.

There was a poster here whose entire identity was around hyping the pac12 and had a lot of sycophants. We made fun of them too until it wasn't funny anymore and got sad.

Seriously doubt we see the same issues with the sec in this or the next incarnation.

I don’t know if Auburn fans root for Bama.  I can assure you  tOSU fans are not cheering on Michigan.
I don't think any Auburn fans root for Bama, unless they're playing Georgia in a championship game. Then it's just the "devil you know" sort of thing in play.

OK, but I think you know what I'm talking about.  ACC and P12 were just as bad before they fell off a cliff.

Not everyone is LHucks in terms of rooting for our conference.  I could care less about how UCLA or Arizona State do in their bowl games.  It's not personal, but I think there is a large contingent that are tired of the idea of "SEC! SEC!", think the conference is largely overrated other than one team, and the lack of motivation excuse is of course old.  Was Mississippi State caring less than Texas Tech last night?  If so, why in the world would they?  It's not like they had greater aspirations.

You forgot to add "IMO" but thanks for letting me know how I think and feel. You must be related to Ms. Cleo.

Iowa State for me.

Can this thread heat up a little?  Usually great information, now it's a bunch of old, ambivalent men (like me).

ETA I didn't even know Iowa State's top LB opted out, TODAY???  Yeah, their RB that opted out earlier was in the line but today's news (might have moved the line a 1/2 I guess) can't be good.  I mean, that seems like BS to do to your teammates (day of).

What happened to the thread that used to go over teams  in detail (typically from homers)?

Rocking chairs and scotch have taken over the FFA.

Have you ever seen fans of a non-SEC team chant the name of their conference?

Some of that is explainable simply due to the catchiness of it.  Numbers don't really chant well.

With all the transfer portal stuff and opt outs it's nearly impossible to keep up.

Understood, but when has there been a better time for "inside" info on these/their teams?  Even if only some of it is actually inside or a game-changer, it's at the very least interesting, and at the most, beneficial.

Maryland clearly caring more than Virginia Tech today.

Tennessee cares more than Purdue tomorrow.  Just sayin...

Replying to facook here, who quoted this, so please, no offense at all.

But this was after the game had started and it was clear as day on the first two drives, VaTech didn't get on the plane.  We need to know before the game starts.

I'm on the Vols tomorrow thanks to you!

In return, I give you Utah over Ohio State (bet is made already), and to take them before that line goes even lower.

I posted it in the wagering thread last night, that Maryland/VaTech reminded me of West Mich/Nevada.  Should have posted it here.  Hopefully not mushing Tennessee by mentioning them here as well (and that they buck the SEC bowl performance so far).  And yes, I'm on the Utes as well.  Top 2 OSU WRs have opted out (AFTER travelling to L.A., wtf?), won't surprise me if more of their NFL players do the same.  Utah's 1st round LB is playing...I think they hang tough and hoping that OSU's superior talent just doesn't quite care as much as Utah.  7000 OSU tickets returned....the fanbase obviously doesn't care about a Rose Bowl trip, maybe the team won't either.  Which is blasphemy, but here we are.
