2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (4 Viewers)

The problem I have with it is they fired Holtz for being Icarus - too close to Rockne. Holtz won one title and was robbed of another (1993). Kelly hasn’t even won a meaningful bowl game, let alone a playoff game or a title.

It’s a sign of accepting mediocrity once shunned by the school and fans. Comparing him to Davie, Willingham, and Weis isn’t the standard. Those three sucked and deserved the firings they got. Compare Kelly to Holtz, Devine, Ara, Leahy, and Rockne as that is the standard he should be held to like every coach before him.
But that was the standard.  We're talking 16 years where ND was no longer one of the elite programs. Even Holtz's last 3 years were just ok and certainly not up to the standard you seem to expect.   His best days were behind him and it was time to move on.  Its pretty obvious that its no longer a draw for the top recruits in the country.    The fact that Kelly can produce consistently winning programs with the level of talent that ND has to work with is a testament to his coaching ability.

Yeah, today sucks for Florida fans, but there's a clear path for them to make it right. Win out, including Georgia, and say hello to Atlanta ... which hot take artists will bill as the real championship game.
I was just answering the question....

What's the time?

MS State down 28-23 against Memphis recovers an onside kick with 3:02 left.  Under review.  Looks to be favorable towards MSST.

Apparently blocking on an onsides kick is illegal, and now I know that it can be brought into evidence on a replay review.

To be clear, there was no flag for the illegal block, but illegal blocking was discovered while reviewing whether the ball travelled 10 yards.

Earlier in the game Memphis had two #4 players on a punt return TD (punishable by penalty) that went unenforced.

Queue Mike Leach.

MS State goes 65 yards on two plays, scores a TD, and fails on the 2-point conversion.  31-29, 92 seconds left.

Here comes onside kick #3.

Who is calling the Georgia Tech/Clemson game?  The announcer discovers the ball was fumbled and recovered by GaTech 10 seconds after I watched the player reactions on the field.

I bet on Bama (stupidly full game rather than first half, which always wins), but I was super impressed by Florida.  Hoping you're right, and I'll be cheering on the Gators.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but since the home team picks the uniforms, why doesn't Penn State wear white-on-white for this game?  I know it's not a normal look for them, but wouldn't it make sense?

@ThomasGoldkamp: I think Dan Mullen just got as close to outright saying they have to be better recruiting as you'll hear him.

Mentioned that a couple times just now when asked if #Gators have a program that can consistently compete for championships now.

Here's James Franklin's response:

First of all, part of the White Out is the contrast. It helps us if everybody else is in white, it makes our players stand out on the field for our quarterback and those types of things. That’s the first thing. The other thing is, we can’t wear white at home. There’s NCAA rules. We can’t show up and wear whatever we want to wear. We would have to get permission from the opposing team to allow us wear white, and I would never do that for anybody else, so we haven’t even kind of gone that route

9. What are the rules about jersey colors for opposing teams?

By rule the visiting team must wear white jerseys. This means white, which does not include light gray, pale yellow, etc. The home team may wear white, but only if they get written agreement with the visiting team before the season starts (Rule 1-4-5-b).

10. Is it possible for the visiting team to wear their home (colored) jerseys?

This is possible, under these conditions (Rule 1-4-5-b):

The home team must agree in writing before the game.

The home team’s conference must certify that the color of the visiting team’s jersey is in contrast with that of the home team.

If the visiting team wears colored jerseys without meeting these conditions, it is assessed a 15-yard penalty before the first play from scrimmage after the opening kickoff in each half

Edit: I think SEC may allow home team to choose
