2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

Love this guy. ‘At the end of the day …’

Bryan Fischer

@BryanDFischer

CFP chair Gary Barta: “At the end of the day, we thought Michigan was a better team and deserved to be ranked ahead of Michigan State.”
Only solution to the long national nightmare of multibillion dollar amateur academic athletes playing football and not knowing who is really the best is obviously to have a 128 school playoff. Make college football a year round sport so they can play 30 games each season.

I mean I can see 6 teams. Gives the 1/2 seeds a bye. 12 is just ridiculous to me. There’s no need for that and all it will ultimately do is give us the 9-3 SEC teams. People really think they are going to reward like, Boise State in that scenario? It’ll be the same committee.
I think this is teh best format.  12 is just too many mediocre/above average teams.

More shocking to me are the people who are justifying calling players mfrs because well it is football and that is allowed. Also the "in my day guys" coaches would set us on fire and we would have to run 10 miles up hill to just get him to piss on us to put the fire out while yelling obscenities at us.  "And made me a better man!"

"Back in MY day, we got harassed, bullied, named called, shamed, and demeaned...AND WE LIKED IT!!!"

I'm actually impressed whomever this is avoided demeaning genders, races, or other special needs.  Simply implying people are incestious is a step forward.

Really no clamoring for Dave Aranda?
He's been mentioned, but nobody really has any idea who LSU is targeting.    Fan base speculation is off the charts right now, including flight tracking and all of that, but the AD isn't saying anything and has kept it all close to his vest.   Jimbo, Riley, Tucker and Napier have drawn the most speculation.

Yeah, there really is no one guy everyone is hanging on.

Myself, I'd prefer a young-ish guy who could potentially stay for 20 years and has no other "dream job" in mind -- no bolting for Alabama or Notre Dame or Ohio State or an NFL team. Dare to dream, I guess.

Speaking of coaching speculation, TCU is in a really bad spot.  There was a large local contingent convinced Lincoln Riley would take over for Patterson, and OU just came in early with the same idea.  The names being thrown around are pretty sad.  Looking at his brother over at SMU, but the rest of the names are just washed up mid major types.

Honestly, I don't really hate this move.

WKU would've been a nice get, fit the MAC footprint, solid athletics, but just doesn't make sense on a standalone basis.  MTSU, on the other hand, does nothing for me.  Less of a regional fit, athletics would fit in fine but wouldn't overall raise the conference profile like WKU would've.

From what I'd read on WKU and MTSU fan boards over the past few weeks, sounds like the feeling is mutual.  WKU fans seemed to welcome the opportunity and latch-on to a Rust Belt conference, whereas MTSU fans didn't want the move and would rather keep the money to stay in C-USA and try to rebuild.  To be honest, many of MTSU's fans seemed a little delusional as to the desirability of their program to outside conferences.  There's a reason they were left holding the bag as the conference got picked-over.

Both preferred a more southern footprint, and I get that.  The Sun Belt offers much better football than the MAC does currently (at least the top programs in the SBC) whereas the MAC offers much better basketball.  I do think WKU would've been a great fit in the MAC, especially paired with a school like Marshall.  But football drives everything, and Marshall is a football-first school, unlike much of the MAC at this point, and the Sun Belt fits their football profile better.

It was fun to be in the mix for a little bit, but I'm alright with the MAC standing pat at this point.

Agreed.  I'm a MAC guy and would have liked to see WKU, but MTSU... no thanks.

LOL Penn State. 4th and goal from the 1.5 if you’re gonna go for it, go for it. Stupid trick play not only doesn’t work but was almost a fumble returned for TD the other way. Way to mess up field position and momentum all at the same time 🤣
