Can’t imagine he’d be a serious candidate at this stage in his career but definitely worth talking to. I bet many of the guys we’re talking to now end up as HC’s next year or shortly thereafter

100% and the more the candidates talk the more you learn about them as coaches and people. If you need a coach in a year or two you already have a list started. They’re taking a very smart and open minded approach IMO

Also helps you set a baseline for who's in the market. When you talk to someone who blows you away, you know immediately.

Nickel has become base. Build that first, in terms of scheme and personnel group(s) and worry after that about how to play likely run downs.

I've also been thinking about something along these lines in how the Eagles allocate resources ($$, draft picks) defensively and whether or not that should change.
It starts with this belief. LBs have to be able to cover now and it's harder than it ever has been. Guys who were 3 down LBs even 10 years ago are run down players only now. That's driven a trend for lighter, more mobile LBs who have the ability to run with the kind of TEs and RBs in the league now, as well as having to carry a slot or tight split WR at times.
Those kind of players are not as well equipped to deal with OL coming out at them with the same kind of "stack and shed" technique we used to see. These new style LBs are most effective in the run game, when they're kept clean. I'll use Alex Singleton as an example. He makes plays in the run game when he's not blocked, or when he beats a block with speed. He's not dropping his shoulder into a G and shedding to make a tackle, like say Carlos Emmons did.
You can keep those guys clean, and let them use that mobility to make plays, rather than having the lack of size be a liability, by having a quality, deep DL.
I think they've taken it too far the last year or two, but I think stocking that position from mid round picks, a middle tier FA here and there and there and being selective about 2nd contracts is still the way to go.
In other words, I think the strategy for defensive personnel the last few years has been sound, but the player evaluation, in both the draft and FA has been weak.

My sources tell me the Eagles brass are very confused and will name Kellen Moore the head coach within days. Kellen has no coaches that will follow but does have a few guys that squirt Gatorade in the mouths of players that are really good at fantasy football he plans to bring with him. I’m a supporter of this and think it will change the culture in philly football for the next few years...when it’s announced ill bump but until then feel free to speculate..

But, the longer this goes the more good targets of the new coach's desired staff might be gone (to positions with the other 6 or 7 teams building a staff, take college promotions, etc.)

I don't think anyone thinks there's a QB who will be left at 6 that's a potential franchise QB. Any QB you take there is going to be risky, or even if you did have someone, what's the contingency if someone jumps in front of you at 5 to take that guy?

The best thing the Browns did this time last year while fan panic ran rampant was be patient and thorough with their process. They were the last to make the hire more than 2 weeks after whacking Freddie. No need to worry unless this remains unresolved the end of next week.

I was reading an article at lunch today that says Eskin is reporting that Laurie is leaning heavily towards McDaniels but the players are pushing for Duce.

Yea like a first swap this year, 2nd this year, a 4th and a 1st next year from like Pitt or Indy to move that far back.
Even then I think I'd prefer the stud WR.

This team had 4 wins all against back up QB’s. 3 of those were by 5 or less points. One was because Engram can’t catch. The tie was against a rookie making his 3rd career start on the road.
If I were Lurie I’d tell the players they need to #### and get back to work lol

I agree. I've never been a fan of letting the inmates rule the asylum.
Now, if we were talking about a franchise qb like Rogers, Brady, Wilson, etc, by all means, give them input. No one on this team has that kind of clout though (or at least they shouldn't).

I’ll never be tired of it until it’s fixed. Look at the 4 remaining teams and compare their skills to ours and it laughable how far we are away. It’s entering the point where a teams 3 is better than our 1. That has to stop. It’s 2021
Smith, Chase and Waddle won’t make it past 11 if I’d have to guess right now. Chase as the X and Reagor as the Z would work out very well.

I would agree with you if we haven’t given our QB epically bad WR’s for the last few years. If they are giving Carson a legit shot to turn it around this year we have to go WR. If not we’ve watched that movie already the last few years, might as well unload him.

Unfortunately I think that's where the best value will be. My choice would be Sewell, but I think there's little chance he gets past Miami. Even if he does, there's no way Cincy passes on him.
The LB from Penn State is interesting, but I don't think they pass on Smith or Chase.
*sigh* If only they had taken Jefferson last year.

Chase and Smith are better than Jefferson. Thats what will make me doubly mad if they pass again on a great wr this year . Hell chase is very highly regarded

Hill was also a fifth but man he was damaged goods punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach
All these teams have great qbs at different points in their careers.
Doesn't make me not want to take chase or hill at all.
All these qbs and teams are better than us right now. We need any help we can get

Jeffery Lurie has received “quite a few” text messages from various #Eagles players strongly endorsing Duce Staley to be hired as the next Head Coach
Duce’s interview went very well, and Lurie was impressed by how prepared for the interview he was. Duce also already had a well-prepared list of candidates for OC/DC that he has already spoken to, if he were to get the job.

Sirianni is a good value bet. The consensus seems to be this is approaching the home stretch with McDaniels, Staley and Sirianni being the "final" 3, with Sirianni getting as long of an interview as McDaniels (spread over two days.)

That’s not the point. Sure it would be great to never have a first round pick and just get steal after steal later wouldn’t it?
The point is they have the talent. How and when it was acquired means nothing. We need it.
Saying you’re done with first round WR’s while trying to get top QB production in an all passing game is malpractice.

This has an Andy Reid feel to it but the media will now just say we grabbed a “yes man” for Lurie and Howie. Maybe true I guess.
He hasn’t called plays which sucks but we’ll have to see if he plans to or not I guess.

I am weirdly optimistic about this hire. He works well with QBs. Reich disciple. This was all about fixing Carson Wentz and this is probably the best guy for the job.
He is very young though and doesn't have play calling experience. But hey, I don't think Pederson did either and that worked out well.
Feel bad for Duce though, I wouldn't have mind him as coach. Bienemy too.
