2021 Philadelphia Eagles - Queued up a playlist of our greatest zits throughout the season for final game (3 Viewers)

The cap is being overblown the more I read about it. From what I’ve seen we can get under the cap with predictable cuts and a few restructures. Also, the cap should bump back up the follow year as well. What this team needs is in injection of good, young and cheap talent beginning this year. There’s young potential here in some key places that has to be coached up. Sanders is Sanders. Raegor, Watkins and Hightower need growth and good coaching. Maybe adding a Chase/Waddle/Smith as well. Goedert is still young and improving. I don’t know how long you’ve lurked but the OL, through all of the mess, has actually found some young gems that played well above expectations. Namely Mailata, Driscoll and Herbig. Add them to Kelce, Lane and Seamolu and it’s a fairly solid unit. If they can hold onto Stoutland that unit  could jump back into a top 10 unit in the league next year if healthy. Wentz and Hurts are also young and could benefit from better coaching.

The defense is a gigantic question mark. Will definitely have to wait to see who the DC is and outside of Sweat and maybe Singelton there’s not much good young talent on that side of the ball.

Our Division is still bad as well. I expect the Cowboys to obviously be better with Dak but they need an overhaul on defense. If the Giants and WFT don’t get better QB play it’s very hard to say how much better they’ll be. It will be a very interesting off-season for sure.
They can work around their cap problems. The question is 'should they.' The core of this team is mostly on the wrong side of 30 and is obviously trending in the wrong direction. I think there is enough youth in place for a one year reset and that's the part that leaves me curious about the front office will actually do. Ripping off the band aid with most of those vets instead of restructuring some of them would set the team up for a quick bounce in '22. That isn't meant to mean the team would tank. It just means the team would be approaching this offseason with a futures focus and '21 is on Wentz whether he will be around for it.

That sort of focus is what Lurie spoke of at his presser. A lot to be seen but things turn around quick in this league.

I also think the core is more of the ones I mentioned previously and we’ll see that next season.

Dave Fipp has also been granted permission to explore other options.

Fipp has been Eagles' ST coordinator since 2013. Finishes by DVOA over that time:

Not broken up about it. He's been ok. Nothing special. When he has some talent to work with, they do better but he's not making th m better I feel.

Some real average numbers right there

Per RapSheet:

The #Eagles are interviewing Washington Football Team defensive backs coach Chris Harris for their vacant DC job, source said. A fast-rising coach, Harris also played 8 years in the NFL.

**The former NFL safety coached on the Chargers' staff with Nick Sirianni in 2016-17.

- Was with Sirianni in SD for 2 years as assistant.
- Washington had 2nd best pass DVOA defense in 2020, and 6th highest graded PFF coverage defense.

Washington had one of the best performing secondaries in the NFL last season.

They allowed just 5.3 net yards per pass attempt – the second best in the NFL.

Question...it appears Philly is all in on getting Wentz right...will they entertain offers on Hurts?  Gotta believe if they are committed to Wentz having Hurts there will eventually turn into a headache...would love to see the Pats take a run at him if he is available.
Correct in a way. From people I talked too Hurts still has a ton of detractors in the organization. If Wentz gets fixed then Hurts would obviously be traded but it probably won't happen till at least next offseason at the earliest.

Outsider perspective, I don't think Philly is anywhere near all in on Wentz.
Hurts still has his detractors in the org so it's not all in on Wentz however there's a lot more people in the fix Wentz camp then there is trade Wentz and start Hurts. Hurts didn't blow anyone in the organization away with his play.

Michael Lombardi says this though:

One more.  Eagles will hire Jonathan Gannon as their DC.  Per a Colt source.

Potential Eagles defensive coordinator candidate: Colts DB coach Jonathan Gannon

This was from a couple days ago. Guess I missed his name being floated around.
Ok so things move fast I guess lol. Just read this from Breer:

Colts secondary coach Jonathan Gannon has emerged as the clear favorite for the Eagles defensive coordinator job, and it looks like he'll take it. Philly's working through the final stages of the interview process.

Gannon would be a big get. Had multiple coordinator offers.

Eagles will hire Colts DB coach Jonathan Gannon as their DC.
- Worked with Sirianni last 3 years
- Helped produce 4 top-10 pass defenses in 7 years.
- Has NFL scout experience.

Huge potential for a new young Eagles staff.

It’s crazy how sources work.

The last person I spoke with told me that Duce had no shot at all and was given an interview because they did in the past and felt they had to this time around. Duce is ambitious and it’s known but lacks experience in many areas

The only arguments I ever heard mentioned were disagreements in approaches which is why Doug made a comment about wanting more of a voice on offense. He felt there was too much input from Duce, Stoutland, Marty and Scangerello and that it needed to be narrowed.

I’ve also been told that the “babying Wentz” essentially doesn’t exist. He’s hard to coach but not babied.
Yeah thats the extent of it and people are using writers like McLane and this Sanquillo guy from last year or the year before (Whatever it was who cares dude was and is still a nobody) as a bases to go off of that by. Is he hard to coach? Yes but Wentz is really stubborn. Also he seems like a bad teammate because of his faith. Like we've talked about it's not meant to turn people away and it's done unintentionally most of the time. What worked in 2017 was there was a lot of guys in the same mind span on faith. Pederson and Carson relationship wasn't as broken as people say it is. They were still friendly based on their faith as well. What Carson needs is a hard QB coach on him whos gonna call him out on stuff. Maybe Sirianni or the OC they hire can be like the Reich guy to Carson on this. However we aren't talking someone who refuses to do something because they get called out.

Fipp is a cool guy all things said, however the Special Teams have been questionable the last few yrs and the decline and lack of progression for Jake Elliot is concerning

I like it. Xavier Rhoades had his best year under him. He did well with former TU DB Rock Ya Sin and the other colts DBs this past season Was apparently part of the coaching staff Josh McDaniels had put together for the Indy job before backing out.

Came across this and it made me :lmao:

Joe Buck: Looking for a block...

*Ronald Darby gives us his body and gets knocked into the seventh circle of hell*

Joe Buck: gets it!

With that said if someone offered a high pick for Hurts, I think they'd move on and not think twice.
I’d take a 2nd back if they could get it for Hurts.  this team has so many holes right now, and plenty on the horizon as the good players they have (almost all over 30) decline or retire.

If you can trade a backup QB to address that, do it before they change their mind.

I think the odds we trade down just went up a lot.  If Detroit is moving on from Stafford, they are going to be a key candidate for a QB...so I could see the Panther. 49ers, Pats maybe trying to move up.

I wouldn't mind moving down to the Panthers spot, I'd be nervous if we start dropping to the teens tho.

Per John Clark:

I’m told Duce Staley has asked out of his deal with Eagles
i either heard, or read it, somewhere that Suce was upset with the offense last year and how it was managed. Sounded like Duce was out on Carson too.

I just hope Duce has somewhere already sent to land. Best thing for him would be to do some OC or even head coaching stuff in college, i think

The #Eagles also agreed to terms with #Colts assistant Kevin Patullo as their offensive pass game coordinator, per source. Nick Sirianni bringing along some familiar faces to Philly.

Been seeing some Colts fans saying online that Sirianni is bringing a couple of Any guys with them. They apparently loved the guy though in Indy

Hope Howie took good notes:

The #Lions are expected to add former #Chiefs and #Browns GM John Dorsey as a senior personnel executive, per sources. One of the NFL’s best evaluators adds experience to the front office of first-time GM Brad Holmes.

See my post above

Sources: The Philadelphia Eagles have targeted Auburn's Tracy Rocker to be the new defensive line coach. He's expected to join Jonathan Gannon's defensive staff in Philadelphia.

"Nick Sirianni has already touched base with Carson Wentz. The front office believes Wentz can be salvaged, but the coach will have a lot of input in that regard."

Any OC rumours yet?
Denver RB coach Curtis Modkins is expected to speak with Eagles today about their vacant OC position, per source. He just finished 13th season as NFL coach. Modkins was OC with Bills for 3 years and for Chip Kelly’s 49ers in 2016, heavily involved in game-planning. #9sports

Along with Curtis Modkins, the #Eagles are interviewing #Chargers OC Shane Steichen today for their vacant OC job, per source.

Many didn't believe Dorsey would be here past this year anyway.

Joe Lombardi just hired by the Chargers. Speculation is that Steichen could now be the Eagles OC now.

Well Andy just won his 2nd straight AFC Conference title and is heading to his 2nd straight SB. I think for most Philly fans picking who to root for in this SB should be Easy. Tom Brady and AB and Tampa Bay a team who won a SB by knocking Andy and us out in 2002 or our old coach in Andy Reid with Mahomes?

I was rooting for the Bills, wtf was with McDermott taking those short field goals?  That was never going to do it, so I’ll be cheering for Andy.

Tyreek Hill cancels out AB for me.  I quite like Bruce Arians, but I can’t support Brady, ever.
