Cryptic Jeanie Buss tweet:

I miss KB. He would understand and explain everything that I’m not allowed to. Honestly he was the greatest Laker ever. He understood team over self. Meaning your rewards would come if you valued team goals over your own then everything would fall into place. All can reply.
Kent Bazemore probably feeling pretty good about himself this morning.

I'm not sure that the Nets see much difference between Durant not playing at all, and missing the playoffs altogether vs trading Durant for a mediocre return and getting knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.

The team was built to sacrifice the future to contend for a title, which they have no chance of doing without Durant. It is completely in the Nets' interest to play hardball and rebuild their future asset chest so they can rebuild.

Exactly - this is a pivotal moment in the Nets franchise for the next decade - they are not going to rush it to please 2 signed players who want out...if the deal they want is not there then sit tight.  It honestly cant be much worse in the short term so why not get the right deal to set up the next 10 yrs.

When you say sit tight what kind of time frame are you looking at?

They shouldn't rush this deal, but they need to deal both these guys before the season starts especially Kyrie. Otherwise trade returns will start to diminish.

Agreed - much easier to make trades now before cap space and roster spots start drying up the closer to the season we get.

It always makes me chuckle when I read NBA teams are going to use "leverage" to keep their star players in line.....

"   According to Brian Lewis of the NY Post, trade talks for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving could drag on into training camp as the Nets plan to use leverage to get the best available packages.

With Durant locked into his current deal for four years and Irving opted in for one more season, Brooklyn's front office holds most of the cards and intends to use them. According to Lewis, "Nets general manager Sean Marks and owner Joe Tsai had agreed to work with Durant and business partner Rich Kleiman to try to trade him to one of his preferred landing spots. But in the end, Durant and Irving are expected to be moved where and when it works best for Nets management."   "

Doesn't this sound an awful lot like PHI last summer when they were insisting they wanted Dame Lillard, 5 1st round draft picks, and all the coastal property in Australia in any trade for Simmons? And they were going to use their "leverage" until that happened!
Didn’t Philadelphia waiting Simmons out actually kinda work?  Did anyone think they’d be able to land a player of James Harden’s caliber for him with that trade process started?  I know Harden looks like he is on the decline now, but if Philly had felt compelled to deal Simmons last summer, they would have ended up with like Buddy Hield or McCollum or something.

Maybe we just disagree. I actually think McCollum would have fit PHI better than Harden. Haven't seen enough of Hield to have an informed opinion on his play.

Plus, the Nets didn't end up advancing in the playoffs but they got some solid minutes out of Curry/Drummond and possibly 2 first round draft picks. So it took more than just Simmons to land Harden.... who I think may need to be in a very specific situation to be relevant again.

I wish above all else that Harden lands on the lakers. I hate the lakers and think that would be the best possible place for him.

What do we think of a potential 3-team trade of:

Sixers get:  Eric Gordon, Reggie Bullock, Tim Hardaway, Jr.

Rockets get:  Thybulle and Max Kleiber

Mavs get:  Harris and Korkmaz

With picks and swaps etc.

No need for KD when Nikola Jovic is on the team. There's always hope in the summer league.

Video from BleacherReport

>>Scoring 25 points, including 5 of 7 on 3-pointers, and adding nine rebounds, the No. 27 pick in last month’s NBA draft, offered a smoother performance on both ends than his first two outings.

“The transition from Europe to here was really tough,” the Serbian big man said, “and today, thanks to my teammates and coach and everyone who believed in me, my shots went in.

“The first two games were really rough for me. I was just trying to get to know everybody. The game, like I said, it’s different.”

Malik Allen, the Erik Spoelstra assistant who is guiding the Heat summer roster, said it merely was a matter of time for such a moment.

Whether it was a Dirk Nowtizki-like stepback jumper, confidently converted 3-pointers or defensive containment when switched onto smaller guards, the 6-foot-11 19-year-old showed a greater degree of comfort.

Extra shooting on the team’s July 4 day off helped.

“We had a shooting workout [Sunday],” Jovic said, “trying to get my shot on, and I hit some good shots today. I’m just trying to get used to it.”

For Jovic it all is part of a transition away from his backcourt role overseas.

“I never played power forward or center,” he said, “so this is my first time actually. I know I’m not that good at it.

“I’m trying to get used to it.”

As for Jovic’s defensive stands against Warriors guard Moses Moody, a member of the Warriors’ main roster who scored 13 Tuesday, Allen said the moments were encouraging.

“I can’t sit here and say his NBA defense overall is ready to go in a playoff game,” Allen said. “But, at the same time, he’s done a really, really nice job in terms of picking things up and taking the challenge when teams try to get him switched on the ball.

“That’s what you want. You want competitiveness on the ball and he’s shown that.”

Overall, Jovic said, a step forward.

“I watched how I played. I watched both games a few times,” Jovic said of the Heat’s two opening losses. “Because, like I said, I’m not playing with the ball that much, I have a different role with the team. I’m trying to figure things out.

“After two rough games, I think I looked all right today. Now I know I can get a few more buckets in the NBA.”<<

So according to a source and then saw this on Twitter yesterday the Nets and 76ers talked KD. 76ers left the talks. Brooklyn was asking for Joel Embiid, Thybule, Maxey and several 1st round picks. Nets want several draft picks plus an Allstar and another young piece in any KD it seems from all reports.

Also KD is asking for a trade also means the Kyrie for Russ rumor is more then a rumor. Back when Donovan was coaching KD and Russ on OKC I heard from a Florida source that Billy Donovan wanted KD as his franchise player but OKC Owership thought Russ would be better as the franchise in terms of advertisement and all because he had the sexy stats and "wow moments" like Dunks where KD is kind of boring. KD wasn't a fan of Russ back then either as him and several others blamed Russ for too much hero ball for the loss to the Warriors. Russ and KD do not get a long period even to this day. Couldn't even stand each other with Team USA. If Kyrie is traded for Russ then it's no surprise KD wants out.

When KD signed with the Nets and put together that team he original saw the talent of Kyrie which is undeniable. I don't think any of us realized how far off his rocker Kyrie was until a year or so. He was also doing Harden a former OKC teammate he got along with a solid. he obviously thought Harden had something left in the tank. for a run. Unfortunately all of it fell apart. We found out Kyrie is Looney Tunes, Harden is on a faster decline then a 9O's one hit wonder and was traded and now KD's biggest arch enemy might be traded for? Yeah I'd run away too if I was KD.

Holmgren with 12 points, 2 rebs, 2 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal, and 4-5 on 3s in his first half of Summer League. Suck it, @Capella and also @Premier.
18 points in 12 minutes, 4 3s, a dirk fadeaway, blocks a Tacko dunk as well as someone else’s jumper from 10 feet away. Ooohweee!

How soon into the season so the Thunder shut him down so they can keep tanking for Webmanyama (sp)?

💣??

Thomas Bryant to Lakers on a 1 year minimum deal - best big (UFA) out there

I like all the Lakers minimum players (Bryant, Damian Jones, JTA, Troy Brown Jr) better than their TPMLE (Lonnie Walker).

Glad they moved away from all the old retreads they signed last year (none of whom besides Monk have been signed by anyone else yet).

Dominant.
I read something that sounds simple but makes a lot of sense: because of the elite shooting of the NBA, the game is much more spread out than it is in college or high school, and that is a huge benefit for Holmgren.

Not only will he not get swarmed, but because of his exceptional passing ability he won't get automatically double-teamed, either.

good thing, too because one of the highlights they showed last night was of him brushing up against a defender then falling like he got shot and sliding 5 feet on the floor.

he's going to have to live outside and slash at wide open lanes for the first 3 years of his career until he adds some muscle..

He’s a white Durant (body-wise) - he definitely needs to get stronger but today’s game is the perfect time for him to playing.

:bye:

I can't wait until the first time Giannis comes barreling down the lane full speed ahead and Chet's skinny ### tries to take a charge.  He might literally snap in half.

I guess Chet getting hurt is the only chance you have left of your bust prediction being right. So root away.

Forgive me for not being impressed by Chet dominating a bunch of dudes who won't even be in NBA rotations in a couple of months...

Chet hasn't been in the league a month yet, but we already know he doesn't want to win, and is a slacker because he hasn't put on 40lbs of muscle as a 19 year old.
Well we apparently know he's destined for the HOF after a single summer league game, so....

Mavs would get the short end of the stick.  Harris would have even less value on a team with Luka and Bullock and Kleiber are key playoff platers.

[Charania] The Portland Trail Blazers plan to waive guard Eric Bledsoe ahead of his guarantee date approaching, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Entering his 13th NBA season, several teams are expected to pursue Bledsoe as a free agent.

Is this semi-interesting or is he bad now?

“Bledsoe has a $19.4 million contract for next season but only $3.9 million is guaranteed. That changes on July 10 when the full contract becomes locked in.”

He’s not $19.4 million good.

Omg, Jimmy Butler replied to PJ Tucker’s farewell Miami message on IG with “#### you and joel embiid. Yea I brought him into this”

Is he serious or joking around??
