AND, he looks like Stringer Bell. So, although I already have a DPOY candidate in Myles Turner to anchor my defense, with Luka and Herro being defensive minues and Ant being inconsistent I felt I needed another solid defensive player to help out in the paint. I was scrolling through some of the defensive metrics looking for a good defensive PF with little regard to offense since I am already loaded up there.
But guess what I found? A guy with one of the best Defensive Ratings at PF in the league who averages 15 & 10 while shooting better than 40% from 3. No, really. I checked over and over again and he hasn't been picked. I know we like to throw "SOD" around, but this time it's accurate. I selecet:
5.13 PF Bobby Portis, MIL
We'll have @DJackson10 pick for you.
You're upMan, I’ve got like 10 guys I’m debating between for this next pick

Terrible team.My team already has four players who are currently averaging more than 18.3 points per game while avoiding any real defensive liabilities. It makes sense to beef up the defense with a player who can play a high level of defense against stars like KD on the biggest stage. So I'm going to plug in PJ Tucker F.
A gritty champion who is having career highs in 3PT% (.454) and True Shooting (.614) on the Heat. Adds a different attitude to the team, can switch well with Wiggins, and take advantage of the myriad of open looks this group will create.
Lamelo Ball
Terry Rozier
Andrew Wiggins
PJ Tucker
Joel Embiid
Kyle Lowry
Klay Thompson
Duncan Robinson
Miles Bridges
Karl Anthony Towns
Alright 3.17, after much trade deliberation, is Desmond Bane.
Fantastic shooter, solid defender with versatility across the whole perimeter. Looking not to bad off the bounce this year.
3.18 Tyrese Haliburton
Versatility. Like SGA can play on or off ball allowing them to be stars in their roles with Lebron dictating the offensive plan of action.
He’s been awesome this year even with his odd pairing with Fox. Hopefully a trade is in the works so he can have full control of the team. Another guy I love to watch.
@wikkidpissah
5.18 Lu Dort
All perimeter stars will now be placed into the Dortress. His %s are down because he’s building up his offensive game but that has grown in him to averaging 17pts a game. His catch and shoot corner threes are still around 42% and that will be his role with this team. His on ball aggressiveness will look even better now that he knows TimeLord is behind him.
Loving this Bron build so far, excited to add more pieces to it.

Reminder or for those that missed it. Pick not expected until “late morning Pacific”.facook said:Sorry to say, if it gets to me tonight/tomorrow AM I'm going to hold up the draft before picking another guy that isn't even on fantasy teams. Work meetings start early and last till late morning Pacific. If it's to me, at that time I'll figure it out. And no I can't give a list because I could give a list of 10 and each one would go to one of you jerks before I choose my losers.
My favorite player. He's a top defender and really underrated playmaker. Not many guys throw a better lob either, ask Time Lord. Marcus was under strong consideration for my last two picks, but the thought of getting mocked again by the peanut gallery stopped me from pulling the trigger. Great pick.5.19 Maaaacus Smaaaat, G Bos
kismet. cap my starting five with a player who offers what no other player can. i've never tired of his relentlessness and still marvel at his ability to guard all positions and take the ball from anybody at the most opportune times. it will be the job of his teammates to make that mean something. and he's pretty much stopped taking nonsense treys. hell, i'd trade Jayson Tatum for him right now
@facook
I contemplated him heavily instead of Brunson, but I felt my team needed more of a true PG. Smart is better as a defensive SG alongside a star PG or even better, as a 6th man.My favorite player. I disagree. He is a below average SG, but a great PG with the ball in his hands. Part of the reason they fall apart in so many games late, is because Tratum brings the ball up, and Smart has to set up in a spot for a shot. I'm not sure if it's coach's call or Tratum's ego, but they finally seemed to put a stop to it a bit in Smart's first game back yesterday. Smart is a fantastic passer and decision maker at PG, but he isn't consistent enough this year as a shooter to be a good SG. And those fire lobs bring back memories of Sherm Douglas.I contemplated him heavily instead of Brunson, but I felt my team needed more of a true PG. Do you watch the games? Even Mike and Scal love him as a facilitator. Bad take.![]()
He is a below average SG and PG who makes up for his terrible shooting with good, not great defense.
Well, when hyper homer color and play by play guys are on your sideDo you watch the games? Even Mike and Scal love him as a facilitator. Bad take.
I get that he is better as a distributor than a shooter, but he's better off just letting others run the offense and being opportunistic than being any kind of focal point. I don't like him bringing it up and setting up at the top of the key and trying to drive from there.I disagree. He is a below average SG, but a great PG with the ball in his hands. Late Morning Pacific is the name of my Fleet Foxes cover band.Reminder or for those that missed it. Pick not expected until “late morning Pacific”.
Trying to picture Larry David in such a band...Late Morning Pacific is the name of my Fleet Foxes cover band.
Mike Gorman is god, and Scal does talk x and o's on the reg. His XM show is very good nationally. You guys don't even watch the team I bet. I forgot this was the internet. My badMike and Scal said it!
Admittedly, I haven't seen many games this season...but based on past years, when Smart sets up from the top of the key he ends up shooting too many deep threes and doesn't get angles from the wing to make passes to cutters and posts. I just don't like him stationary out there and prefer him moving from side to side. Sure the Celtics don't have a real PG, so he is stuck doing the job, but I just don't think it is his ideal role.Marcus Smart is a great facilitator of the offense. The best one on the Celtics easily. Besides taking charges, it's what he does best. Watch just him next game like a coach would do, and you will see it. Ironically Schroeder is terrible at that, yet you don't hear anyone complaining.
As for "I'd rather see him cutting and roaming the baseline and attacking weak spots in the defense or setting up in the corner, which is easier done as the SG than the PG." that's not what he's best at, and we don't have anyone to make those passes to him cutting besides maybe Al. This is what we do often in the 4th when Tatum brings the ball up and it's awful. We lose so many games because of it. I miss coach Brad.
Edited to add: PP is good in either guard spot, and loves to shoot. I would be ok with him playing more at SG no problem.
I get what you are saying, but it's starting from a bad premise. Last year, when guys were out, he was trying to do to much and jacking up crazy shots. Especially in the playoffs. My guess is that Brad wanted that at that time. Not many other options. When Smart wasn't shooting, Semi and Tristen were, lol. We were so short that we needed Smart to score to win. That's not his game, but he's a team first guy. He hits some amazing clutch shots, but he's a pure PG under normal circumstances.Admittedly, I haven't seen many games this season...but based on past years, when Smart sets up from the top of the key he ends up shooting too many deep threes and doesn't get angles from the wing to make passes to cutters and posts. i aint gotta worry. soon as i knew i had a top 2 pick (and therefore getting either Freak or Joker) i looked to form a team without a ball-dominant player so that the star could flourish as he wanted to. With Brogdon/Smart/Ingram/Mobley/Joker, i got 4 guys avging 5+ assists (and Mobley will), 4 guys avging 5+ trey attempts (and Mobley will) and all 4 guys around Joker can defend multiple ppositions and switch on anybody. mission accomplished.I disagree. He is a below average SG, but a great PG with the ball in his hands.
i gotta PPP about 2.38 times per gameMarcus Smart runs 3.1 PnRs per game (good for ~80th in the NBA) for 0.62 PPP (good for about 220th out of 257 in the NBA). His efficiency is down (I assume that is going hand in hand with his shooting being way down this year) but his # of PnRs per game has been steady for a few years. Basketball reference has him as playing 100% at PG this year but Schroder as playing the majority of his time at SG. Smart is secondary ball handler and facilitator who is playing the most PG of his career because the other options are terrible. I would argue that the Celtics are rarely playing with a PG on the court which has lead to their trash production this season.
all fair, but within the context of wikkid's team, he is the 3rd ball handler (maybe even 4th since Ingram will do some of his own stuff) so that seems fine.Marcus Smart runs 3.1 PnRs per game (good for ~80th in the NBA) for 0.62 PPP (good for about 220th out of 257 in the NBA). my goal was to avoid ball-dominant players and have good passers, switchers & shooters (in that order) around Joker. not thrilled (tho not unhappy) on the shooting end, totes thrilled on the other two. i dont know enough about the next gen stats to be able to speak to the implications, but 60 years of watching Celtic pick&rolls and 6 of watching Maaaacus Smaaaat has me very happy about where, when, why & how Joker gets the ball. literally capable of a triple-fifteen with this bunch and wont get exposed on D.all fair, but within the context of wikkid's team, he is the 3rd ball handler (maybe even 4th since Ingram will do some of his own stuff) so that seems fine.
Yes I think that post was more in response to PIK and his claim of how awesome Smart isall fair, but within the context of wikkid's team, he is the 3rd ball handler (maybe even 4th since Ingram will do some of his own stuff) so that seems fine.
Agreed. My point was more that he isn't a PG. He's a shooting guard with some mediocre PG skills and size.all fair, but within the context of wikkid's team, he is the 3rd ball handler (maybe even 4th since Ingram will do some of his own stuff) so that seems fine.
Sheesh, this morning was like a call-in show on WEEI
we got nuthin to feed on this morning but the last pick and some Leprechaun love/hate
