2022 NBA Roster Draft - This draft goes to 12! (1 Viewer)

The Blazers just announced Little will have surgery to repair the labrum in his shoulder and will miss the rest of the season.

It doesn't affect his eligibility here but it sucks for him after having a mini-breakout in the last month.
It does, and to the degree I follow the nba I'm a Blazers fan.  He just seemed to be coming into his own.

Some Marcus Smart Love

It's amazing how much better the Celtics are playing as a team over the last week or two.  They looked GOOD tonight...again.  I hope Tatum can keep playing unselfish, as he has during this einning stretch.  Marcus has been amazing, and Brown has been consistent also.  It's been fun.

Again looking to fill a specific need here.

12.06 Mike Muscala, C, OKC

The Thunder hardly ever play him since they are actively trying to lose, but a 3 point shooting big man is a nice addition to the bench this late.

@Juxtatarotis up.

Looking at my team so far—-I feel like I have some really nice offensive pieces and some solid defensive pieces as well. With that said—I think having a defensively minded rim  protector with height—but that also has speed would be a nice fit.  I will take Nerlens Noel with my last pick.

My pick is Nerlens Noel

PG: Trae Young, Jordan Poole

SG:  Bradley Beal, Hamidou Diallo

SF:  RJ Barrett, Amir Coffey

PF:  Tobias Harris, Kyle Kuzma, Wendell Carter Jr.

Center: Deandre Ayton, Kevon Looney, Nerlens Noel

@trader jake

12.09 Andre Drummond PHI C

The guy can pack a box score, and even the advanced numbers love his defense.  There are so many decent, cheap centers available...illustrated with getting a player of his calibur here in the 12th.  Unless an NBA team has one of the very, very best bigs they're foolish to invest premium capital into the position.

Trader Jake's Point of Attack Squad - Efficiency on offense from the point, high% 3pt shooting off the bench, and tenacity/versatility on defense across the board.

Point: Chris Paul with Jrue Holiday (starts at the 2 and will eliminate the best offensive player 1-3), Jalen Suggs

2/3: Dillon Brooks, Keldon Johnson, Alec Burks

4/5: Kristaps Porzingis, PJ Washington, Obi Toppin

Bigs: Brook Lopez, Andre Drummond, Boban Marjanovich

I got a busy day. Just gonna jump ahead of @Yo Mama. If by some stupid chance he wants this guy just skip me and I will make up a  pick later.

Dewayne Dedmon - C

Still plays defense. Grabs a bunch of boards. Is shooting 52% from three this year - please ignore the # of attempts, thanks.

Yo Mama really selects:

12.11 - Justin Holiday, SF - Pacers

Never misses a game. Just does his job - lower case 3 and lower case d at the wing.

YO MAMA’S STROKEMASTERS

PG - Kyle Lowry, Monte Morris

SG - Klay Thompson, Caris LeVert

SF - Duncan Robinson, Talen Horton-Tucker, Justin Holiday

PF - Miles Bridges, Danilo Gallinari, Darius Bazley

C - Karl Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson

12.13 - Reggie Bullock (#25)

Another veteran 3 and D wing who can guard 1 through 4.  He had a rough couple of months after joining the Mavericks as  a free agent but has recently recovered the shooting form that made him a solid starter for the Knicks last year.

12.09 Andre Drummond PHI C

I want to make clear that I think he’s a pick that makes sense as a final pick in the draft.  Not hating on that at all—but I will say that he’s a crystal clear case of how stats and “numbers” don’t always paint an accurate picture.  Drummond is a good rebounder—but is a horrid defender.  There is a reason why the Pistons could get virtually nothing in return for him in spite of his packed box scores.  There’s a reason why the Cavs literally traded for Allen while they had Drummond—and legit couldn’t give Drummond away. After trying to get anything in return for him—and not being successful—they worked out a deal to buy him out.  When he went to a Lakers team that was decimated by injuries—people assumed he was going to be a great help—and he was soo bad that he could barely get off of the bench.  I used to know people that were very successful DFS players that would target opposing players on teams that Drummond was on because of his lack of ability to stop anybody.  He doesn’t deter opposing players from attacking the basket—and arguably invites them to do so.  Sure—this means that he gets some ancillary blocks and steals that make him look good defensively statistically—but there is a reason why nobody wants him on their team unless its horribly cheap.   As a 12th round pick in this format—totally understand the pick—but I do not buy that he’s some sort of solid defender.

Can I just pick, or are we going in order?  My Tacko pick was a bit of a goof.  But I had uses for that fella, late defensively and inbounds plays for sure  Plus he's one of the nicest guys around.

Ok, my last pick is a guy I liked for a while now.  He's a slow developer in the NBA, but he's just about ready to take off.  Super athletic shot blocker who can run the floor and clean the glass.  Looks like a solid defender, but the nerds may argue. He fnishes like Time Lord, and he's around seven feet tall.

This pick moves Tacko to the 12th man.  Gotta be Jaxson Hayes, PF-C, Pels.

12.14 - Xavier Tillman

Would like another frontcourt player to provide some toughness and defense in certain situations.  JJJ and X have worked well together defensively, so we will just try it again.

Both these guys were in here in the last half hour, but neither made a pick.
There are lots of times where I can take a look at the thread but it's not convenient to pick. I didn't have a list of names at the ready and I hadn't closely followed who'd been taken since my last pick at 11.05. That was the whole point of asking to be skipped.

Right now, I am opening the Google Sheet and seeing who's left. I'll assess the leftovers, and make a pick.

12.16: Jaylen Nowell, SG, Minnesota

Would like better three-point shooting (.345 after a cold two weeks), but he's still a 20-5-5 guy per 36 minutes. Not bad to stash at the end of a bench.

He can also be used to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay

12.18 Mason Plumlee C - He's a fantastic 8-12 mpg backup center type who gets entirely too much playing time. He's a plus athlete even at 31, rebounds especially well, plays adequate defense, works fairly well from the high post directing traffic and is one of the better center passers in the league, hardly ever turns it over, teammates seem to really like him, he has been one of the better Giannis defenders of the last 3-4 years, and I hate his game with a passion. My second least favorite Nugget of all time behind Anthony Carter. He'll mostly ride the bench but will be an adequate backup center if Gobert is resting and Green can't handle the opposing centers all night.

He and Cody Zeller are battling it out to be the last active member of the Plumlee/Zeller/Hansbrough dynasties.

12.20 - Isaac Okoro, SF CLE - I am going with a really good defender here who has been an integral part of his team's success this season.  His offensive game is growing as well.  He will play a role as a defensive specialist for my team.

Some guys that I thought deserved to be drafted but weren't:

  • Max Strus – Key reserve and part time starter for the #2 team in the east. He’s taking the eight most threes per 100 possessions in the league and making them at a higher rate than everybody above him. It also seems that his defense is more competent than some other similar players (like his teammate, Robinson).
  • Derrick Jones Jr – Uber-elite athlete and very good defender who has had a nice bounce back year before the most recent injury. It seems like he’s a better fit in a smaller role, but he’s delivered this year. His efficiency is fantastic, and he has helped turnaround the Bulls D.
  • Bruce Brown – He’s a goofy fit, but there is no way he’s not one of the better 240 players in the league. Very good defender and for a team that could play with an undersized C who can space the floor so Brown can be the roll man, there could be a big benefit. He’s also half decent with the ball in his hands.
  • Malik Beasley – He’s had an off year so far, but he has a wet jumper and the ability to be a really nice sixth man. If he can get his usage back up to where it was last year and his shots start falling, he’s a better version of Jordan Clarkson.
  • Jeff Green – Uncle Jeff is a great locker room guy, can legitimately, if not exceptionally, guard SFs, PFs, and (smaller) Cs. Amazingly, he is still a plus athlete and throws em down from time to time. He’s a very nice low usage-high efficiency (.609 TS% which is in line with the last half decade) role player who can add a little in a lot of places without really taking anything off the table.
  • Rudy Gay – A higher usage, lower efficiency version of Jeff Green.

I grabbed Strus in the 9th
