2022 Philadelphia Eagles - Leave Gannon in Arizona and let’s run through the NFC again in 2023. (6 Viewers)

Mario goodrich could turn into something for us as could Jobe.

I think we will be ok but yeah we will need to invest in the secondary heavily soon.  Esp since slay isn't exactly a young player.

True, but I don't think any of us expected some kind of deep playoff run this year.  We all love our draft and moves, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, we are still in a 'rebuild".

I agree and I think we made some huge strides in getting younger and more athletic.  I think Roseman has really done a great job this year in setting us up for next year.  If Hurts pans out, then we have the draft capital to get the next Darius Slay replacement as well, which will help.  With all of the LBs drafted, I have to think we may be changing up some of our defensive schemes.  Will be interesting to watch... Go Birds!

Mathieu just got 3 yrs $33m from the Saints. We weren't going there.

I hear you- I know it's a rebuild. And overall, I am really happy about the draft and the trade.

But, the secondary looks to be even worse than last year, or at least less talented. And they played abysmally last year. The number of 3rd string quality QBs that had career games against us was painful to watch. I do hope the Defense will play better as a whole than they did last year, due to the additions to the Dline and an upgraded LB corps. But, in obvious passing situations, they are going to have to go from bottom of the league to top 10 in generating pressure to cover the glaring holes in that secondary.

Having Davis helps the run game, a lot, and hopefully helps the pass D, too, letting them go to 2-high shells and keep the safeties out of the box. But, who knows how often and what formations he will be on the field.
Lots of talk about the secondary...but I remember sitting watching games and it seemed like every time a third down came along, the opposing QB could wait ALL DAY for someone to come open. The pass rush was terrible.  It wouldn't have mattered who was in the secondary because there was simply NOT enough pressure on the QB for it to matter. Eagles are doing it right....D line and LBs needed help more then the DBs

you can say that again.

The Eagles seem to be introducing more of a hybrid in players who fit different positions simultaneously. I'm not too worried about the Secondary yet. Harris is a serviceable starter and for those who wanted a Harrison Smith you kind of have that similar player in Marcus Epps. Similar style player but Epps can tackle and move faster. Really want to see What McPherson can do on the outside and they really like him. I could see a trade for a CB or S coming though

Eagles loose Cathrine Reiche to Andrew Berry and Clev. Expect a lot of Eagles moves in the lower departments in the coming weeks external and internal promotions as well as people leaving with some external names. Wasn't privy to names. Expect a heavy retooling in the personal departments. There will be some new faces by this summer. If Andy Weidl leaves this summer for the Pitt GM job that is a heavy loss. Was told there are a few they believe can replace him within the org but no one could replace the experience he's brought.

Agree 100%! We needed to get back to building the lines and filling a need here and there.

There’s talk of Jurgenson competing at RG this year so it’s possible we pulled 4 starters from this draft if you include Brown. 2 on the lines and the other 2 in positions of need.

I’ve also said for a while now that we can win with Hurts and that we just have to stack the talent around him. Maybe I’m biased but our entire offense looks to be one of the more talented ones in the league. Even if Hurts doesn’t work out, the next QB (veteran or rookie) will have a LOT to work with.

I agree here. I started talking about it with a friend  and when I got to the point where I was saying things like "Maybe Miles Sanders will score a TD this year" I realized I was nitpicking a little. Which is good if thats what you have to do to find a weakness. All rests on Hurts, but I think he definitely improves this year, from last year. I don't see a regression on the horizon, considering everything. HOW MUCH is the real Q.

But for real, we have a top 5 OL at minimum, a Top 5 TE, one of the best ground attacks in the entire NFL and possibly the best 1-2 punch of WRs on a team 25 and under. A whole lot to like here.

Other teams sure do like hiring people that work in the Eagles front office. That seems like a testament to how the Eagles run things. #Frontofficefactory

Exactly. If hurts fails, a good FA QB would be very interested in coming here with our Oline and weapons.

Eagles fire Casey Weindy Andy's brother plus part ways with 3 others personel department.

Big Joe D. and the Jets claimed Herbig off waivers. He was decent when he had to play guard, not so decent when he did some emergency center snaps.

Some camp nuggets from Twitter:

-Nick Sirianni impressed with UDFA QB Carson Strong’s ability to call plays, not have to rely on the sideline.

“He’s sharp. Knows where to go with the football. He’s got a big arm.”

-Nick Sirianni was asked if the Eagles plan to have a 4-3 or 3-4 base defense. He didn’t want to give that info away.

-Nick Sirianni:

“Good luck blocking Jordan [Davis]. He’s pretty big.”

-Nick Sirianni says Nakobe Dean is “all ball all the time.”

-Eagles rookie draft pick numbers:
Jordan Davis: 90
Cam Jurgens: 51
Nakobe Dean: 17
Kyron Johnson: 58
Grant Calcaterra: 47

Nakobe Dean apparently has no injury and no pending surgery. It was just a fluke thing that he dropped and all the teams passed on him. This might be the once every 20+ years gift we as Philly fans get when it comes to generational players.

I heard during the draft this was probably a fluke and just something someone was just throwing out there.

As for the Bolded don't forget the Sixers ended up with Embiid do to medical red flags. if it wasn't for that he's in Cleveland and Philly has either Wiggins who knows what happens to him or Jabari Parker which we all know how his career has went

Donahou has left the Eagles. He informed the team he wasn't renewing with them after the season. He's like 75 now so I wouldn't be surprised if he is retiring at this point. Big loss and he's been with the team sine 2O13

Maybe every 10 years then.

Hall of Fame Journalist Ray Didenger announced on his weekend WIP show with Glen MacNow he's retiring end of the month. Ray is 75 and will retire from all duties including Eagles Pre and Post game show. Huge loss for Philly in terms of sports coverage but an amazing person. Won't hear one bad thing about him besides that one incident of Mikey Miss being his usual jackass self. With the way people came to Diddy's defense I thought that was the end of Mikey's career in radio in Phily

Love Ray Diddy

Home opener being a MNF game is kind of meh. As a season ticket holder, I guess it’s better than a November or December MNF game.

4th straight season we open on the road, and 5 of last 6 seasons.

Any other leaks?  Looking to come down for a game this year and hoping for a night game but Minny... meh.

And I won’t be home until 1 at the earliest!

Hope we get Washington in week 1. That could be pretty cool to play Wentz before he gets hurt or benched.

Gut feeling tells me they want to see what they have in McPherson and others before seeing if they need to fix a whole. We aren't in win now and if we can't see what these young guys can do now when?
I think so, too. Howie has mentioned a few times, going back to end of last season, how they view the young guys they acquired during the season (Mac McCain - practice squad poach, Andre Chachere - roster cutdown waiver claim, Tay Gowan - Ertz trade) as essentially "draft picks" they think can develop. So while they didn't use any mid to late 2022 picks on DBs, there's probably some belief in the building that those guys are pretty equivalent.

There still seems like lots of chatter about Dean dropping in the draft. Honesty Dean went to the best franchise for this situation. If Dean is what everyone thinks he is Howie will give him a veteran contract very soon.

I'm not very concerned about our secondary. Last year we didn't get much pressure on the QB so by simply improving on the pass rush we'll be better in the secondary.

I really like Harris and rooting for him even though he might be a long shot. Last season Harris was out on an island at times without help. I'm no NFL coach but having your FS on an Island with today's WR's might not be a good idea.

Gut feeling tells me Wentz has a good year and surprises some Eagles fans who are going to go crawling for any excuse why he isn't that good. Just have a feeling he's gonna DeSean Jackson us twice a year like DJac did with 3OO plus yds and some Tds just because.

They were trying anything to help the run defense out with more men in the box. I suspect that to change this year with Davis and possible Ellis in there. I also believe I posted in the game thread where he got hurt plus in our team thread how Brandon Graham was a huge loss to the run defense and a lot of folks kind of brushed it off.

I've been arguing and debating about the Secondary for sometime and how I'm not as concerned and they fixed the pass rush hopefully. Most teams secondary's aren't even good anyway without a good Pass rush and pressure on a QB. Go ask any DC in football and any secondary guy and they'll tell ya the secrete to a great secondary is the pass rush from the front 4 even front 7 at times.

Also if Dean is anywhere close to what many think he can be and I think he can, then he becomes the steal of the '22 NFL Draft. You just got a free 1st round top 1O selection in the 3rd round. Many teams can't say that.

I thought it was going to happen last year under Reich. Instead he was (apparently) a dumpster fire they couldn't wait to unload. He could have a rebound year in Washington, but IMO if he was going to resurrect his career it would have been last year.

What does a rebound year even look like at this point? Any chance to rebound was last year. Won’t be shocked at all if he’s on a other team next year and out of the league in 2-3.

He'll have something like 3700 26/12 this year. They will run a lot, he will be OK/Good at times, head scratchingly bad at times playing hero ball still. I don't see any QB whisperers on the WASSTAFF to get him to change or play different. On paper it'll look like he is middle of the pack by end of season. Which is what he is.

on wentz, adding to all the comments above, at best he was humbled at indy and changes his attitude. can you teach leadership? not sure you can at this level.  getting a Cutler vibe here purely speculative based on what i read out of indy coupled with tidbids from his philly teammates after he left us, but his problems are upstairs moreso than skills and physical abilities.

He's got his heels dug in on his Carson love.  Nothing will change his mind on him at this point.  Unless Carson decides to go get his masters at Penn State.

You want to bet some money on this?

I was thinking Jeff George which shows my age but Cutler is a good comp.

Last year was weird. Right coach but the Owner couldn't get past the fact Wentz wasn't vaccinated despite Indy have the highest unvaccinnated % in the league. it was a weird obsession and it sounds like Isray was setting everyone up to fail. After Ryan fails in Indy this season Reich and Ballard are gone. It just wasn't a great overall situation. Isray just can't get over the fact Luck isn't coming back to save the franchise.
