This one stings after the KC win.
Coming home to a pumped up crowd and Geno Smith looked like an All-Pro.
Going to watch the game again without the emotion. Need too see more. One thing I noticed was Anzalone looks so slow when in coverage.

I think it's safe to say Seattle has their number. Unfortunately they are yet somehow again on next year's schedule.

I was surprised they could not get to Geno with Seattle playing 2 backup tackles. Except for that stupid sack he took Geno looked really solid and was tough to sack. Metcalf is tough to cover and Lockett is as clutch as they come. Then they have Njigma and their TEs. With Walker and Charbonney or however you spell it hard to believe they struggled so much last week.

- Campbell called this game humble pie and spun it as a positive, that the team needed to be reminded there's a lot more work to do to get to where they want to go.
- On Goff's interception, Campbell said he'd like to review the tape, but initial reaction is it was more on the route (by Jahmyr Gibbs) than the QB.
- On the non-call DPI on fourth-and-2, Campbell said officials told him it was a case of players getting feet tangled. As usual, Campbell definitively rejects putting any blame on the officials for team coming up short.
- Campbell said James Houston IV will probably be down a while with his ankle injury. He was ruled out pretty quickly, likely going on IR.
The coach wanted more information on Vaitai and Montgomery (thigh bruise) before making any public assessments. - Told the team after the game they didn't earn that one. Almost pulled it out but can't lose the turnover battle and expect to win, puts too much stress on the defense. Credit to Seattle for coming out strong out of halftime. We had opportunities but made too many critical errors.

Still not a fan of going for it up by 4 at home on your own 40.

Gibbs is electric, he'll have big games this year. They'll figure out how to unlock him.
As for Dan, live by the big balls, die by the big balls. Yeah it was dumb to go for it on 4th every time but we love it when it works. Two-edged sword.
Feel like MCDC in game management has improved overall. IDC if he's perfect, no coach is bc we keep picking humans for the job. Every coach has blind spots. Lots of very good coaches are not great with clock management (Reid) but excel in organization, building staffs, motivation. MCDC is just a flawed human like any one of us.
We don't get as far as we have without his vision and leadership. I think he's a great leader and I love his authenticity, and his commitment to accountability. He is pretty introspective and you can readily see by the changes he's made in game that he's willing to listen to people he respects.

I was born in Detroit, not a suburb of Detroit, don`t remember too many times when things have gone north.
I will admit SOL has been ingrained into me and is tough to break, my family, my friends are the same, as we know no different. I love Campbell and what he has brought to this team but as much as I want them to win I will call it as I see it not as a homer.
You yourself said "I thought this team was different" Lets hope it is.

That's a lot of what I was going to say. Tale of the tape: Lions 5 turnovers (1 INT, 2 fumbles, 2 on downs), Seattle 0. 3 of those 5 led to Seahawk TDs. Blame to be shared on bad fortune as much as Ramblin' Gamblin' Dan.
A lot of people thought the Lions would start 1-1, they just couldn't have predicted the path. Got to feel (or at least hope) that the team hasn't played near their best game yet. Time to see who's healthy for next week and see what happens against the undefeated Falcons.

I think Detroit is overrated, but they're easy to root for. And their division is trying to give them the title, so I assume they'll do enough to take it.

I am very passionate about being loyal to only CMU/Detroit/U of M sports. The Lions in particular. They have done nothing to deserve 57 years of support, it's just a family tradition I've held on to over the year.
I still think they have the right leadership in place, from Sheila, Brad, Dan and Chris down to the roster they've construction. There is adversity in every season, and I'm looking to seeing how they respond. The 1984 Tigers, the Bad Boys back to back, the Red Wings consecutive cups - all of those journeys had frustration and heartbreak leading up to the culmination. But when you pull back and with the perspective of time, we can see each had a linear progression. Choppy as a saw tooth over smaller stretches, but the year over year progression was there.
Dan Campbell chose to view this last night as a good thing, some humble pie to remind them there are no easy wins in the NFL. They will bounce back. This team is resilient and they have high character guys in that locker room.
I'm getting old. At best I've only got 10 or 20 years left, and who knows how many of those will be while I still have good health. Just want to see a Super Bowl while I can still enjoy it.

Goff had a pretty solid game, this L wasn't on him - but man that play & Monty fumbling (Laporta got blown tf up) right out the gate in the second half....killers
need to see the all-22 later in the week but no idea what the coverage was on Parkinson''s 20 yarder right after the fumble - no one accounted for him

No they are rookies, they are going to have growing pains. There are a few exceptions to this, but most of them do.
This is why I get annoyed with the guys like Campbell, Holmes, Pete Carroll and others. You can be optimistic about your team and realistic at the same time.
You can be happy about your draft without parading around telling everyone how you would have taken Gibbs at six, and we only had 17 players with a first round grade and we got four of them, because then it trickles down to the fans and then they lose their minds when they don't go 17 - 0 and have 34 all pros.
Not every fan is like this, most everyone here is very level headed, but I was at a watch party yesterday and you should have heard what people were saying. Gibbs is bust after he dropped that pass, we should have just kept Swift. Aiden is a bust, we can't even pressure Geno, this team will never win anything, and so on. It can't be healthy to live like that.
The Lions are still going to be a good team, but everyone has bad weeks. Hopefully they remember this feeling, but put the mistakes behind them and on to Atlanta.

I think the Lions win that game if Montgomery doesn't get hurt. Gibbs is going to be better, but Monty does all the little things right and you could see the body language of the team change a little after he went out. Hopefully he is back very soon.

All 22 doesn’t come out for a day or two so I don’t want to comment too much. But it seems like AG is loathe to make in game adjustments. If we’re not getting home with 4 then send the blitz. If cover zero isn’t working switch to quarters or quarter half. Do something.

Not that the offense was perfect, but when you score 31 points you should win the game. Almost no pressure on Geno and no turnovers created.

Two 4-game stretches of 3 home games - and we just started the first one
only 8 home games this year
5-5 at home the last two years, this is not a .500 at home roster
The difference in the game was -3 in turnover differential. As bad as the defense played, the fact that we went to overtime with the turnovers is encouraging.

I think over the last 23 they’re like 10-1 they have the same/fewer turnovers and 2-10 when they lose the turnover battle
obviously that’s way too simplified but bottom line is Seattle came out and made plays in the second half and Detroit did not
have to get the ball out - have we had zero forced fumbles in 2 games? 1 sack, 1 INT - forget offensive explosives, we need momentum swingers from the supposedly improved defense

All good. I felt exhausted and depressed after that game myself. My wife turned the TV off as soon as game ended and said "No more football today" sick of it.
Right after the game my daughter texted me SOL! I said "No, they are very different" Might not win SuperBowl but are different.
I have watched hundreds and hundreds of NFL games and the little nuances that can cost any team a game are amazing. Seattle getting the ball back before half, Lions pick up one first down and they don't..but then they miss the FG. Lions not attempting a FG, the big fumble was a killer. There are 5-6 on these plays a game for all teams that impacts the final. But Seattle does seem to have our number.
Bottom line is before the season everyone thought the Lions would be 1-1 after 2 games and that is where they are. Just not as planned.
On another note I go for a walk after the game around 530 and I always walk by Hutch's parents home. Hutch`s matte grey Bronco was there already.

But - in fairness - 7 points were a pick 6. And 7 more came after a turnover deep in their own zone.

I hate that it ruins my mood the rest of the day. Didn’t watch any more football & tried not to marinate in it until today.
But this is also one of the reasons I love the NFL. Any given Sunday. It’s not linear, it’s not completely predictable. So much of it is just having the will to fight through; injuries, missed opportunities, penalties, turnovers - doesn’t matter, the next play can still be the one turns the game around.
Didn’t close it out but they also didn’t fold after pick 6 put them down 10. Disheartening but I think this one can be a painful lesson that motivates them. They’re too strong to let this one longer

My day after thought (still waiting on all those pennies I'm owed) is that the main concern is the injury situation. Next man up will be the key over the next couple of games. As far as the big picture goes I had them at 1-1 and tied for first at this point, just in a different order of wins. 2-1 is needed to stay on track.
I am not sure he cut the wrong way, but a step or two before Goff expected.

I wasn't able to watch the game as it was blacked out here in the Upper Peninsula (Packerland). I bought Sunday Ticket last year but only needed it once for a Lions game.
I've read different accounts and interviews and what I was left with was that the game was described as having a playoff intensity to it. That may help explain the number of injuries. Campbell seemed less confident postgame I think losing this game was as deflating to him as it was to the fans.
Campbell indicated that the pick 6 was due to a wrong route by Gibbs. This may explain why they have been bringing him along slowly. He is being asked to perform as both a NFL starting RB and WR -big learning curve and its going to take more games before he and team are comfortable with his use as a multi-purpose "weapon". I also thought it interesting and supportive that Goff took the blame for the INT on himself.
Lions opened their schedule against two playoff teams. Seattle has an excellent coach, Superbowl bloodlines and one of the best QBs. Geno Smith has been so accurate for the past two years. Its no disgrace to lose to them in OT after having 3 turnovers including a pick 6. The Lions had the best TO ratio last year and some regression should be expected.
The defense is going to take time to come around with the new additions, rookies and FAs. Losing Pascal and Houston hurts and sounds like we will be lucky if Moseley is ready by midseason.
Though the overtime rules have improved it still sucks that you lose the game without ever having the chance to touch the ball yourself. NFL should consider going to the college format. Its fairer. Lions also were unlucky in that they didn't get the ball first in overtime.
