2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 Draft, FAs, trades? (8 Viewers)

Goff at home should be an auto start

Line movements sometimes indicate injuries. Last week the line went down on KC a couple points, even before Kelce was officially ruled out. This week the Lions line went up about 3 points after the Seattle game. Of course that could have just been a reaction to the way they got rolled by the Rams.

And we have to worry about Deckard who played through an ankle injury last week and was unable to practice yesterday.

Campbell on Decker:

(ankle)

"All I can tell you if he's improving everyday. That's really it. We're not stuck still here. He has gotten better everyday but it's hard to project right now."

Injury report hasn’t dropped yet.

Matt Nelson is the most likely option. Wonder if they would stick him at RT and flip Penei.

Or slide Halapoulivaati Vaitai outside (where he played in Philly) & put Glasgow at RG bc he is our best backup OL.

[Rogers] Lions draw Alex Kemp's officiating crew this weekend. Based on last couple years, it's one of the more flag-happy crews. Threw 17 in the Pittsburgh/San Francisco game last week.

Nice to see Vaitai looking so good. Onwuzurike isn't on the list, but also had extremely high PFF grades (89.3).

Will be incredible if we keep getting performances like this for the whole season from these two, who were both pretty much completely written off as contributors.

Def a nice unexpected bonus from both

Levi had a grade of 89.3 in the first week of preseason. For Week 1 he was at 64.6 - still solid numbers though

“They’re both hurting,” Pete Carroll says when asked how OTs Charles Cross and Abe Lucas are doing. Says it’s going to be a “challenge” for Charles and Abe to play against Detroit.

If Pete Carroll said that then they are closer to being put on IR then playing. Carroll is the most optimistic coach ever.

Lions' Week 2 Wednesday injury report:
  • Taylor Decker -- Ankle (NP)
  • Khalil Dorsey -- Illness (NP)
  • Emmanuel Moseley -- Knee/Hamstring (NP)
  • Frank Ragnow -- Toe (FP)
SI says Sewell will play LT and Matt Nelson RT but that’s their “reasonable expectation” - let’s see what MCDC says.

Ragnow is fine BTW (see his Monday media appearance), anytime you see him out know regular rest days are part of his maintenance/pain management.

EDIT - this is the teams “estimate”, players had today off but they’re required to file a report of what they expected if practice had been held. Not a normal schedule bc they have 10 days prep, they did the game plan install and practice earlier in the week.

I'll admit I was trying to find evidence to back up my theory about starting out in the Thursday opening night game and getting that 3 or 4 days extra to prepare for week 2. The last 2 years the 4 teams that played all won their game 2. Small sample size but also the most recent.

Limited data to go on....but what do Lions homers think about the Gibbs/Montgomery usage remainder of season?

TBH I don’t think anyone knows. I feel like @ KC on banner night is not a harbinger bc they had a very specific plan to attack their DL sans Chris Jones.

ROS, I expect Monty to lead the team in rush attempts. They didn’t ask Gibbs to pass protect - 9 drop back snaps, 9 routes run. 5 from HB, 2 from Slot, 2 from Outside WR. 2 targets / 2 catches ADoT (-3.0) YAC 24 (e.g., 2-18), 10 rushing play snaps and he was the ball carrier 7 times.

I would expect his snap share to increase. At no point do I expect him to be a bell cow, he’s 199 pounds. They will manage his load. But I think he’ll be targeted more going forward.

Just MHO, doesn’t mean anything

50/50 spilt and totally dependant on game script. The good news for fantasy is it makes them both rb2's because only ARSB commands targets in this offense.

wifey ordered my blue ski mask today to wear for the Baltimore game

sonuva….

Sent wifey the link this morning, blue ski mask was $4.99 with free shipping for Prime members. Checked at lunchtime & it was $7.99. Got home & asked her if she ordered it.

“No I thought you one-clicked it. Sorry I’ll order it right now.”

$8.99 + $2.99 shipping.

Thanks Ceedy!

Last time the Lions started a season 2-0, the biggest news story of the year was the Arab Spring, the Occupy Wall Street protests began, Lady Gaga released Born This Way, Dave Bing was the Mayor of Detroit, Jared Goff was a h.s. junior whom no major colleges were interested in recruiting, and an unknown 10-year NFL inline TE named Dan Campbell was promoted from Intern to Tight Ends coach of the Dolphins.

still no Dan Miller Calls of the Game release yet, but they dropped a teaser tonight:

touchdown Detroit Lions
What is that green thing flopping around on his helmet?

Can't wait for the Dan Miller video to drop.

his mouthpiece

see it in his helmet when he pancaked Cole Beasley in preseason

(green mouthpiece is jammed into his helmet and the floppy part is the snap strap that hooks to the facemask)

not sure why he doesn't put it In

Cant say I like the blue ski mask look on first glace. I do not want to look like villians or the world's largest Blue Man Group.
So I guess what I'm saying I think its a dumb idea which means that many people may like it. Particularly skeptical about it coming from a guy who could well be here on a one and done.

He’s replaced Jamaal as the kind of spokesman for the team. I love it. Brad Holmes has pushed the villain angle for a couple years now- which is funny because he’s such a nice guy.

It wouldn't surprise me if the leader of the new blue man group was extended sometime this year or at least in the off season.

They could go the Glover Quinn route. I think from a personnel view they'll be able to move on from him bc (hopefully) Walker will be back to himself next year. Maybe. Anyway I'm glad Ceedy is around to mentor Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. But reality bites, he's probably just a mercenary. Which is fine, let's go get a ring.

He's Claude LeMieux, Bill Laimbeer and Rasheed Wallace all rolled into one. Other teams hate him, he gets in the head of the skill players on the other side, and he's funny af - his teammates love him.

You want this guy on your side.

Saints fans miss him.

Who didn't love this?

Eagles fans hope they resign him next year.

Naw, the new Sheriff in town is ours.

Former Seahawk KJ Wright praises the Lions run game: “This team gonna run for 350 if [Seahawks] don’t have [their] minds right”

I’d never watched KJ’s show before (as it’s geared towards Seattle fans), but I dig it! Definitely one of the more informative film shows I’ve seen, and the co-host asks some great questions. Worth your time (in my opinion), and it’ll get you even more hype for Sunday!

If the Lions and the fans embrace this villain of the NFL persona, then I hope they fully embrace it like the bad boy Pistons.

No one likes the person/team that acts like the villain and then whines about no one liking them or respecting them.

I’d prefer if they just continue to emphasize their bite your knee caps tough gritty persona. You can do that with out trying to take on the role of a villain like the artificial role playing they do in “professional” wrestling.

Admire the old Pittsburgh Steeler teams that were grit and toughness through and through.

Right now we’re the good guys and are getting a lot of support throughout the NFL.

Agreed. I’d like to keep being the team everyone finds easy to root for - the whole villain thing just seems weird and fake to me.

I think in part it comes from wanting to push back a little on the narrative of “aw that’s cute; the Lions have a rah-rah HC and a bunch of try hard guys like Amon-Ra.’

No, actually we have a really good coach who is pretty bright and has a very high EQ. He gets what motivates elite athletes. And they have elite talent, on both sides of the ball. It’s not just a “nice story”; they are a darn good team & you best be taking them seriously.

I think collectively the team is saying “Nice story? **** you, we’re taking what we deserve, what we have earned. This ain’t the same old Detroit. We’re on a mission.”

Sure. I’d just rather us keep showing it on the field, every single week.

No need to manufacture some villain persona when we already have a clear identity, IMO.

It is a nice story right now. Respect is earned and an 8 - 2 finish to one season and a 1 - 0 start to the following season isn't earning anything.... yet

from Reddit

There is outrage over the ski masks from the geriatric sect of fans over on Facebook.

Can someone tell me how going on a crime spree in FORD FIELD is anywhere close to a good idea? There are loads of cops and PEOPLE. You can't even spend cash there, I'm not sure what there is to rob folks of. Also, who pays a $200 plus cover for that kind of thing? Everything is going to be ok. Lol.

Just saw a photo of CGJ wearing a blue ski mask with his uniform.

Completely ridiculous look. Lions have been working hard not to be the laughing stock of the league and then this.

We are going to be the butt of a thousand jokes even more if we lose.

Also fans will tire of it because it’s going to be hot and uncomfortable under the mask and that place gets warm, even more so in a sell out.

Anyway enough of my grumpy old man takes.

Masks or no masks, I want that place to be louder than hell when Geno is under center. I want Ford Field to be the place no offense ever wants to visit.
No objection to that and MCDC and players have prompted the crowd to do just that.

I think that there is so much pent up emotion and yearning to celebrate a winner that Lions fans will likely break the Ford Field noise barrier sometime this year and are a threat to break whatever the NFL record is.

If I were going to the game I would come back hoarse.

Welp, likely no Decker this week. Amazing this offensive line has had the same starters for the entire Holmes/Campbell era and they have played exactly one game together.

Line dropped to -5 after the Decker news. Still far from the -2 to -2.5 it was during the off-season and before week one. And of both Seattle tackles also being out.

Settle down people it’s just a bit of fun.

FFS.
Of course it’s just a bit of fun … but as a life time “metro” Detroiter - I can def see the riff-raff taking this too far, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to hear a bunch of reports of blue ski-masked jerks, doing jerky things after the game.

I don’t want that on my city, yo.
