2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (1 Viewer)

Ziegler expects to use Tyree inside, which is awesome. Also mentions Tre as a gadget guy.
With Jakobi Meyers, DeAndre Carter, and now Tre Tucker all of them have played in the slot extensively in their careers. I wonder if Renfrow will be traded after June 1st which will spread his cap hit over the next two years, something like 6+ million this year and 5+ million next year. Saving cap room for this year.

What if it was a situation where they needed to get rid of one of Renfrow or Waller? It really makes a lot more sense to get some good football out of him this year, if we aren't going to save any money. It would have to be a 2nd round pick. Nah, let's play it out with Renfrow here.

Messing around on Spotrac:

You can lock in Adams, Renfrow, Meyers, Carter, and probably Tucker. That 6th WR might be a wild card, because we already have Carter and Tucker on ST. DUDE, WE SIGNED TYLER JOHNSON? I loved him coming out of college. Love that he's in camp.

Kolton Miller's cap # goes DOWN 2 mill after this year.

They are going super lean at CB. Might be worth it to get a really good look at the new kids, before signing a vet.

Save 2 mill if they cut Bolden.

Yea, Bolden is the only obvious cut based on production and savings.

I think people make more of the slot thing than it is. Adams and Meyers play/played on the outside as well. Carter and Tucker are not threats to Renfrow unless he takes a severe step backwards in ability. I don't expect Renfrow to go anywhere.... at least this year.

he needs to have pocket awareness, know when and where to get rid of the ball
💯

I hated this pick when they made it, but upon extended review of his highlights, kid seems to have exactly this. Carr is 5x the athlete but has very poor feel for pressure. We'll see how O'C looks against NFL lines and upon full inspection. Carr's highlights look great too, but we all know he is a deer in the headlights when the pocket gets dirty.

Hondo C says they (over)drafted Tucker because they intend to trade Frow after June 1 when the cap hit gets spread out. :(

Read somewhere else, I forget where, that Hunter's freelanced route running is at odds with JMcD, who wants more precision and timing in his offense.

Actually... one of the big knocks on O'Connell is that he doesn't handle pressure well. Came up pretty much in every scouting report I read on him.

Hondo also said this back in March:

“I do not believe the Raiders want to get rid of him. In addition, I was quoting an NFL source who thought he would be traded. That is my job to get information and distribute it. That was an executive’s opinion, not. Unless someone makes a superb offer (In that case, everyone is up for trade), I would expect Hunter Renfrow back.”

That being said... McD said “I have a great deal of confidence in Darren Waller… he'll be a big part of what we're going to do going forward." two weeks before they traded him.

There is plenty of time for reality checks in September. I choose to continue enjoying the honeymoon phase.

Therefore O'Connell is the next Tom Brady until proven otherwise.

Just my opinion, but anyone from the Gruden regime not named Maxx Crosby or Kolton Miller is not safe. I would not be surprised at all if Carr is able to convince all parties involved to get Renfrow to New Orleans. Or if he’s traded period. Them loading up on WRs sure makes it feel like something might be in the works.

My initial reaction was "nice thought but I don't think NO has any cap space... they were like ten billion over the cap before bringing Carr on board".... I went over to overthecap and they are showing them with $16.5 million in space. For comparison, we are showing $7.5 million. That is, I believe, just showing all rookies with $750K cap hits so not accurate until rookies sign but still how did they go from cap hell to all that space? Likewise, we weren't flush but we had more room before.... who the hell did we sign?

Cap space is a fast moving target. New Orleans did a ton of restructures before they signed Carr. That has been they're M.O. under Loomis.

Byron Young's supposed weakness is pass rush, but

a. he didn't get a lot of passing down reps early in his career; and
b. when he did in 2022, he had 3.5 sacks and 28 pressures (299 pass rush snaps). For comparison, Jalen Carter had 3 sacks and 32 pressures last year (273 pass rush snaps). :ponder:

In Alabama coach Nick Saban’s 3-4 defense, Young was asked to fulfill multiple roles. He played defensive end, defensive tackle and nose tackle and was able to have success when taking on centers, guards and tackles alike.

Run defense was Young’s calling card at Alabama, but he did show some growth as a pass rusher over time. After registering just 28 pressures in his first three seasons combined, he was credited for 28 pressures in his senior season alone.

Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham uses a multiple front that incorporates both 3-4 and 4-3 principles. Young’s ability to line up at multiple positions still makes him a strong fit. In a 4-3 front, he projects best as a three-technique defensive tackle. In a 3-4 front, he could line up as a four-technique or five-technique defensive end.

I can see why they 'reached' for this guy. He's a high-character, durable, ascending player from a championship program at a premium/need position (3T).

Projected 2024 compensatory picks... Niners looking at four selections, including two third rounders. Iggles looking at four picks as well. Raiders won't be getting any of this sauce. :(

Rams got a 6th for Mayfield. :lmao:
The Raiders are simply not run as well as many other franchises. Maybe that will change in the upcoming years. It better if we are going to compete with the big boys. First we need to compete with the second tier of teams and get out of the third tier. LV is not at the bottom tier but has a lot of work ahead of them.

I got some bad information about our 7th round pick, DT Nesta Jade Silvera. My search of Draft Twitter led me to believe he was a 2 down NT. I was like, uh, 304 pound run stuffer? Not too interesting.
But he has some quicks. His 40 time was 5.1, not bad, but forgettable. But his 10 yard split was 85th percentile. He's very fun to watch, and is a big smack talker (went to Miami).
Hopefully he shows enough for the practice squad.

When picking in the 7th you are really hoping that you see something everyone else missed for someone that will contribute. You get a rotational DT in the 7th then you are doing good. You do better than that then you are a rock star.

Well we had 12 picks this year, and we have 8 for next year. IF the front office has a good draft or two Champ Kelly could be a GM prospect in the future that would net comp picks. I think they are trending in the right direction.

I loved this pick. He's a dawg and I think there's a good chance he displaces one of the two party boy DTs they drafted last year.

Champ was a big get. Respected... on the verge of getting a GM gig and as you point out.... if/when he does, draft pick comp. Can't really say how much he is contributing to the team right now but I suspect he is a big part of it. If things start breaking our way, he will a job offer, no doubt.

I thought the same when they hired Patrick Graham :sadbanana:

Gronk offers his opinion on Mayer

Raiders traded up in the second round to land Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer. During his time in college, Mayer earned the nickname “Baby Gronk” due to the fact that his playing style is very similar to that of Gronkowski’s. He’s now going to get to play with the coach that called plays for Gronkowski for most of his career. For his part, the future Hall of Famer is excited to see Mayer go to the Raiders and play for McDaniels. He offered his thoughts on Mayer heading to Las Vegas. “I think that’s a great fit for him knowing that I was under Josh McDaniels for about 90% of my career … so I think he’s going to be very successful,” Gronkowski said of Mayer on a May 2 episode of “Up & Adams.” “I think he’s kind of a two-way tight end. If he can block in the scheme for Josh McDaniels and their offense, I think he can do a good job.”

This also the guy that dented the Lombardi trophy as he used it to bunt a baseball.... but ignoring that, I am expecting Mayer to be a huge addition to the offense.

Lombardi trophies probably lose a little luster when have won four of them.

I look forward to us being able to use them for batting practice and throwing them from one boat to another because "heck, this is the 8th one we won in 9 years"

The Athletic did a "anonymous NFL execs in each teams draft".

Ours said Wilson is better than Myles Garrett. "No one blocked his (rear)". Only concern was the foot.... can you imagine? A player better than Myles Garret opposite of Maxx?! Forget Bosa/Mack.... best pass rush duo in the league.

Liked Mayer for "what they do".

Imagine that... seriously...

That would cause issues for offenses to gameplan for. Coming off either side is someone that you can't block one on one. You either need to double or do something or just hold and hope the refs continue to have Raider Blindness.

You can kick him inside next to Tillery and bring in Jones on obvious pin your ears back passing downs to. A fresh Jones (with Wilson getting the majority of snaps).... it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside with that prospect. What a game changer that would be.

Watching Green Light with Chris Long with Mike Mayock on. I am interesting in the insight of this. Please spare me the Gruden/Mayock flaming arrows... we know, we know.... looking at you @DA RAIDERS  A few interesting things I thought...

There has been A LOT of back and forth discussion about Mayock vs Gruden on draft picks over the last few years.

Chris directly asked Mike about essentially how the dynamic was.

Mikes starts off with saying in most teams the GM has final say because most HC's "can't see past Sunday". Also, touched on cash position. Saying Jon and he fought on the most was Davis not having the cash. Could not do cash signing bonus and guaranteed money in annual and not bonus. Could not go out and spend money. Jon would get pissed about FA signings from other teams that they could not do because of cash position.

Mike says "most buildings the GM has last say, with us Jon had last say."

He did say Cle was 'my guy'. Tried to move to #2 to get Bosa. No dice. Tred to move up to 3 get Quinnen as well. Then tried to move down. Tried to move down with 'everyone' and no one wanted to move up. He was hoping Cle would become Chris Long. Even put together a Chris Long reel and brought him in and showed him. Josh Allen and Ed Oliver were the others in the conversation. "if we get stuck tomorrow, Cle is the kind of kid, tough, physical, work ethic of who we want to show our kind of guy is. If we are going to make a mistake, let's make it with him."

Derek Carr was "worth more than a 1st round pick" based on the phone calls he took while GM.

Daniel Jeremiah is the best draft analyst in his opinion.

The bit about available cash is depressing.
The part about who had last say make us all hate Gruden even more. Out of touch, egotistical blow hard.
He swung and missed on Cle. Could be excusable if all/most of their other picks weren’t also misses.

Carr was definitely worth more than the NOTHING awe got for cutting him. But he was maybe worth a 1st 3 years ago. Not this past year after his melt down.

ps. Thanks for the summary

Mayock indicated this was back when they didn't have a shiny new stadium.

Jacobs and Ruggs were not misses. The latter was horribly tragic and unlucky. The former was absolutely worthy of a late first round pick. Mayock's later picks featured a ton of extra base hits, including a couple homers and one very notable grand slam. Gruden's talent evaluation was clearly awful. Mayock's has been unfairly lumped into the same bucket.

He was worth a first a year ago. Current brass has proven nothing to give us any confidence they are much better than Grudock. Let's see what this draft and year bring. I'm a bit more optimistic after reading the post-draft profiles, but I am almost every year until we see these kids in actual NFL action. As we stand today, I am more optimistic about Ziegler than I am McDaniels. It's become eerily similar to the above hindsight about the last two in these respective roles. Really wish we could've had one year with Mayock and Bisaccia to see what the two of them could've done without the Gruden overhang. Maybe Mork will rehire both a few years from now. :(

The bit about gruden having the final say is the least surprising thing ever. I said that from day 1. I like mayock. But he was a dumb hire. No experience and he had to be the grudens doormat. So no real opportunity to grow.

We move on.

that horrific stat about total snaps started by the team that drafted them (was that shared in this thread or another?) puts real numbers on the ineptitude of this organization in drafting over the past 15 years or more. There we’re a few hits or non-misses, sure. But overall, and hasn’t this been hashed and rehashed in this thread?!?! , the Raiders drafts have been horrible overall. Their track record and win/loss record proves it.

Raiders overall, yes.

Gruden, yes.

Mayock, objectively, IMO at least, no.

that horrific stat about total snaps started by the team that drafted them (was that shared in this thread or another?) puts real numbers on the ineptitude of this organization in drafting over the past 15 years or more.

Agreed. The great mystery that will never be solved unless he gets a GM aging elsewhere at some point.

Kind of cool

While Amari Burney is still house hunting, he can always kick it with his cousin Brandon Facyson.
Burney, the Raiders' sixth-round pick from Florida, now has the opportunity to play alongside Facyson, who signed back with the team this offseason after a season with the Colts.
"t was surreal for the Raiders to call me and then the feeling I had was I was shaking," Burney said after being drafted. "I didn't want to cry, but I think like two tears dropped from my eyes a little bit. I was just really shaking, I couldn't really speak when we were on the phone talking. And it just really feels surreal that I get to play with my cousin, he plays for the Raiders right now. My mom was talking about it a long time ago. She was like, 'What if the Raiders call you and then you get to reunite with your cousin for the first time?' So, this feeling is great right now."
Burney was formerly a defensive back like his cousin, before converting over to linebacker.
"Brandon just called me, he called me a few seconds ago," Burney said. "We just chatted a little bit. He's got an apartment, so I told him, 'Give me a room in the apartment.' I'm not trying to buy my own right now."
After transitioning to linebacker full-time, Burney enjoyed the most successful season of his college career in 2022. He started all 13 games, while setting career highs in solo tackles (41), tackles for loss (nine), sacks (four), interceptions (two) and pass deflections (four). He believes his previous experience as defensive back will benefit him as an NFL linebacker, with speed and athleticism jumping off his college tape as a Gator.

It is not often I celebrate a signing for another team.... I can't really remember that last time actually,
Even more so for a Raider who I wanted us to resign.... but this is awesome!

It is being reported Foster Moreau is close to a 3 year deal with the Saints. $12 million ($8 guaranteed, which is surprising considering) $3 in incentives with expectation that he will play in 2023.

Love to hear that!

Henry Ruggs III pleads guilty in fatal DUI, faces 3-10 years in prison

Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III pleaded guilty Wednesday to two charges stemming from a fiery DUI-related death of a Las Vegas woman and her dog in 2021.

Ruggs, 24, will avoid a trial and is expected to be sentenced to three to 10 years in prison under the terms of his plea arrangement with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty in Clark County District Court to one count DUI resulting in death and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

The minimum three-year sentence cannot be reduced using the year-and-a-half that Ruggs has spent on house arrest.

Ruggs faced up to 50 years in prison -- minimum of two -- had he been convicted at trial.

Ruggs stood accused of causing the death of Tina Tintor and her dog after colliding with her vehicle and propelling it 571 feet, setting it on fire. Tintor and her dog burned to death. A blood draw two hours after the early morning crash on Nov. 2, 2021, revealed Ruggs had a blood-alcohol level of .0.161 -- more than twice the legal limit in Nevada.

Police said Ruggs was driving his 2020 Chevrolet Corvette up to 156 mph on a residential street seconds before colliding with Tintor's Toyota Rav 4. The speed limit in the area was 45 mph.

District Attorney Steven B. Wolfson said in a statement that the charge of driving under the influence resulting in death was "the most serious charge the law allows" when someone dies as the result of a drunken driver's actions. That charge, the statement said, was depending on the result of a blood draw, which occurred at the hospital.

Ruggs was not administered a field sobriety test after the crash, and his defense attorneys argued that his blood-alcohol test was improperly obtained at the hospital.

"There was virtually no other evidence to prove Ruggs was under the influence," Wolfson said of the blood test.

"I recognize this outcome is not sufficient to punish Ruggs for the loss the Tintor family has suffered," the district attorney said. "But there was a legitimate concern that a court would have suppressed the result of the blood draw. We would have lost the felony DUI charge. We couldn't take that chance. this resolution sends Ruggs to prison for up to 10 years on a felony DUI conviction and brings closure to the Tintor family."

Tintor's family members were in the courtroom Wednesday.

"Today, like every day, we remember Tina and Max, and how they were taken from us that fateful night," the Tintor family said in a statement issued by their attorneys at Naqvi Injury Law. "No sentence will ever bring Tina and Max back, but we hope that everyone learns from this preventable incident so that no other families suffer like we do. We appreciate the efforts of the district attorney's office to overcome the issues caused by the initial investigation, and we look forward to putting this behind us so that we can focus on honoring the memories of Tina and Max."

Ruggs and his attorneys declined immediate comment and later released a statement.

"Henry entered his plea today in hopes that it will further the process of healing the wounds caused by the accident," his attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, said in written comments.

They said they would make an additional statement after sentencing.

Other charges against Ruggs were dismissed under the plea agreement, including felony reckless driving, driving under the influence causing substantial injury to a passenger in his car -- his girlfriend Je'nai Kilgo-Washington -- and a misdemeanor gun charge stemming from the discovery by police of a loaded handgun in his car. Ruggs agreed to forfeit the gun.

The Raiders released Ruggs one day after the crash. He had 50 catches for 921 yards and four touchdowns in 20 games (19 starts) after being selected No. 12 overall in the 2020 draft out of Alabama.
