2023 New Music Thread (1 Viewer)

Rianne Downey - Come What May

Glasgow country rock, alt country singer.

The Forensics - No Place Like Home

Four piece indie pop band hailing from Lancashire, England, UK.

Not new, but new to Spotify... Ferris Wheel On Fire by Neutral Milk Hotel. First EP before their albums. Oh Sister is a pretty raw jam.

Eyedress - Flowers & Chocolate

🎶 I'm sorry, forgot to get you flowers
I'm sorry if I made your morning sour
Don't cry, you know there's always next time 🎶

LoFi Bedroom Pop with a garage mindset.

Gefahrgeist - Reach

Edinburgh Electronic music duo "Powerfully dramatic unhurried track makes the best of Fiona Liddell's punchy vocals"

Los Yesterdays - Who Made You You?

60's L.A. Chicano Soul with a Doo *** vibe.

Haircut 100 on my RR this week.
40th anniversary of Pelican West. Sweet baby Ganesh I'm old. I bought that album at a "record store" when it came out.

Las Robertas - Our Imperium

"Shoegazer with psychedelic overtones"

A band from San José, Costa Rica

Midwife & Vyva Melinkolya - NMP (No More Pain)

Shoegaze, Dream Pop that builds slowly and cinematically with pillowy vocals layered over piles of fuzzed-out guitar.

For those who miss their late 80's/early 90's rock music filled with killer riffs, anthemic melodies, and actual guitar solos, I present the latest offerings from Extreme and MammothWVH. Nuno's solo in RISE is amazing, and love the humor and production value in the MammothWVH vid. These two tunes have made my year so far.

Love both of these. And if you are a fan of EVH you'll hear him in both solos.

Absolutely. Nuno said recently that EVH's passing made him realize that we needed more of his style back in rock music today, and Extreme's upcoming new album was written and recorded with that in mind. Can't wait to hear the rest.

And Wolfie is well, Wolfie. No surprise there. Kid is super-talented and a living tribute to his Dad.

New album out today by Lana Del Rey. I guess I would describe her material as dreamy and cinematic music that straddles the line between pop and melodrama. Very mellow music, but she pulls off this style pretty well. I like it so far.

There was also one from an act I'd not heard before (and frankly puzzled as to why they were on RR): Heartworms - Retributions Of An Awful Life.

Heartworms, the brainchild of musician and poet Jojo Orme, is a cauldron of perplexity. Orme’s gothic take on avant-garde post-punk is beguiling; sardonic prose is delivered in a deceptively innocent manner, while irresistibly off-kilter grooves clash with a cacophony of reverb-drenched guitars.

Had me at "sardonic prose"

The EP came out Friday. I like the whole thing. Good reviews too: NME DIY

The NME review references The Cure’s great Pornography album and Trent Reznor so that’s in my historic wheelhouse.

Thus Love - Centerfield

"Gloomy new wave slow jam that busts out into power chords and soaring effects-laden lead guitar"

P.S. I am a big fan of the new Caroline Rose album... it is a nice complement to the new Boygenius album that I love.

Godsmack had a new release (Lighting Up The Sky) back in Feb. Just heard it recently. Really like the song What About Me.

The new The National album is not very good 😞
Most of their stuff are growers. Takes a little while, for me, at least.
On initial listen this morning, I like it better than Sleep Well Beast and similar quality to I am Easy to Find (and few clunkers than that album).
Not disappointed.

Xdinary Heroes - Good Enough

🎶 Just let me wave to you, not wave goodbye 🎶

Pop Music, K-Pop band.

Lead vocals: Jooyeon

Beach House - Become

🎶 Bright and crystalline
Take it as it comes
Holy morning sun
Rubies on my tongue
La-la, la-la 🎶

Wave To Earth - Bad

🎶 How could my day be bad
When I'm with you?
You're the only one
Who makes me laugh
So how can my day be bad?
It's a day for you 🎶

Pop Music from a South Korean band, but not K-Pop

The Mars Volta - Blacklight Shine (2023 Acoustic Version)

"The Mars Volta reimagine themselves as an acoustic Latin ensemble."
