Which is probably unique for a player the year after he signs a sweet deal.

Without a doubt in my mind, Lamar makes the biggest difference above average replacement to his team. And the ravens are the best team in the NFL right now.

CMC is close, and if Tyreek has a big game next week and gets to 2k he’s definitely in it.

But if I had to vote today, it’s Lamar.

flowers has been good as a rookie. Their 2nd best receiver since Andrews got out is a 31 year old OBJ who isn’t that good.
Their best running back is Lamar.
The guy is basically doing this by himself. Mahomes at least has Kelce but they haven’t been great lately.

They are - what? - 3rd or 4th in PPG and just smoked a team ranked above them. Where do you think they'd be ranked without Lamar Jackson? I saw what happened to Baltimore without him the last two years.

Again, I'd vote for McCaffery or Hill. Hell, I'd probably vote for Miles Garrett above most of the QBs in the conversation.

While I agree that he is playing well, let's not forget that he did have Mark Andrews for the vast majority of the season (so the backup TE part only applies to this last part of the season), and saying he has a bunch of questionable WRs overlooks how good Zay Flowers has been. He hasn't been Puka, but he has been a very good rookie WR.

Hurts?

He's currently at 3600 passing yards and 20 TD's. He'll likelye finish with 4,000 passing yards and probably 24-25 TD's. They're in the race for the 1st overall seed in the NFC, and they may overtake SF if Purdy misses time.

He also has 576 Rushing yards and FIFTEEN rushing TD's. I love CMC. I think he's very deserving. But as nuts as 20 TD's from a RB is--the QB going for 15 rushing TD's is also pretty bananas.

All his rush TDs are tush pushes. Get outta here with this

Does that really matter?

A big part of the reason the tush push works so well is the man with the football. It's easy to say "anyone can do that." Why isn't anyone else doing it at that level?

I feel like it's the equivalent of saying "All of Shaq's buckets are dunks." I'm not going to mentally penalize the guy because he can't be stopped.

If you want to say he doesn't deserve it due to turnovers, solid argument. But "He scores too many touchdowns on the tush push" isn't exactly a compelling argument.

I’m a big Josh Allen fan—but objectively—he has better offensive weapons alongside him than Lamar has sans Mark Andrews, JK Dobbins and Keaton Mitchell. The Niners were definitively the best team in the NFL going to last nights game—and Lamar and the Ravens dismantled them on the road. Yeah—the Ravens defense was solid—but let’s not act like there isn’t defensive talent on the Niners. Also—in regards to Allen—he is tied for second in turnovers this season with 18. Lamar and Purdy have 13.

I think they do have better wrs. Davis is a chump...OBJ and zay jones are a better 1/2 than diggs/davis. Andrews is way better than what buff offers and mitchell/dobbons/edwards is not bad. Cooks has had a couple of good games but he's nothing special

Lamar has a 97 qbr with 19 tds this season...that is statistically not even close to an MVP qb season.

I get that there are no obvious choices but that's not right either...CMC or Hill or bust

And yes they dismantled the 49ers...because they have 4 TOs, a ton of QB pressures and sacks

Dobbins got hurt early in the season. Andrews was dinged up to start the season and has missed games down the stretch. OBJ is a shell of his former self. Mitchell had like 2 or 3 good games before being lost for the year.

Secondly—where is the part that says that there is a statistical prerequisite for winning the MVP? Is this something new—or is this just a made up dynamic that people are bringing up to justify removing somebody from the MVP race? Stats are just one facet of what goes into MVP consideration. If a guy puts up monster stats on a bottom of the barrel team—should they be an MVP favorite? One of the biggest factors in determining winners and losers in the NFL are turnovers. Allen is one of the league leaders in turnovers committed. It’s hard to not take that into account. If we are making stats the biggest driver for determining an MVP—how does overlooking possibly the most important negative stat for a qb (turnovers) come into play?

Maybe, maybe not. Guys get hurt all the time in the NFL with literally no contact.

Thread back on track though - If I had a vote, today would be me voting for CMC. What he is doing behind a very average offensive line is really impressive. As far as "Best RB in football" it starts with him and then everyone else is at least a tier or 2 below. He's a fun player to watch and I think when/if he finishes with 25+ TDs and 2k scrimmage yards its gonna be a lock.

He has the best oline in football. Thats why the play is so successful for him. Again this is an MVP conversation so should his oline get the MVP since this play is so successful?. It's not Hurts. He runs into the line and gets shoved from behind.

Their starting qb threw 3 interceptions in the first half—and they managed to keep the score within one possession with the 49ers receiving the ball to start the second half. CMC is on a far superior team when it comes to talent and what they have had to deal with in regards to injuries this season. The 49ers have one of the most elite and talented core of receivers. They have a tight end that very easily could make the hall of fame. They have insane talent on the defensive side of the ball—and yet—the Ravens have a better record than they do. The Ravens went to their house on a nationally televised game and beat them convincingly. Sure—Lamar’s stats didn’t jump off of the screen—but he also didn’t look lost and do what he can to lose the game for his team like Purdy did. CMAC is a stud. However, if you replace him with a healthy Elijah Mitchell—I would bet that the 49ers would still be leading that division and would still be a contender to win a title. You take Lamar off of Baltimore—and we already have seen what that looks like. They go from being a contender to being irrelevant. The award is for the Most Valuable Player—not the Most Statsticially Dominant player.
