2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (4 Viewers)

Also I know no one wants to talk about this but it’s be a big thing if we were losing and @Snotbubbles mentioned this in the game thread as well. Jalen Hurts has been a very ineffective runner this year. I’m not sure if coaches are telling him to pass more but that’s not the issue we saw. He’s not aggressive and giving himself up too soon. Takeng 1-2 yds and falling down with a defender 2-3 yds away. It’s like he’s playing scared and just trying not to get hurt. If this was HS foot ally the coach would’ve been taking him off the field for safety reasons. Play not to get hurt and you can seriously injure yourself more in this game.

I’m shocked non of the reporters or anyone is really talking about this. I also think it’s effecting the offense. Even on designed runs he looks lost when running and defenders and DCs seem to realize he’s no threat to run right now effectively. It’s part of what makes Hurts successful though but it’s a worry.
I prefer Hurts is being much more judicious in his running and avoiding unnecessary hits. No one wants to see Mariota under center unless its mop up duty or a meaningless game in week 17.

Hurts has had 2 very good games throwing the ball while leading the team to a 4-0 start and 22-1 over his last 23 regular season starts. Get to 5-0 this week while either Dallas suffers their 2nd loss or SF gets their 1st (leaving the Eagles as the lone undefeated team). Just go 1-0 this week.

It just seems like a weird complaint given how much we've expressed concern in the past Jalen's running and the hits he takes. Now he's (possibly) dialed it back and the new complaint is "he isn't running enough".
It’s more or less that it’s dialed WAY back. We aren’t expecting him to run with it constantly but even when he escapes pressure he looks scared of being hit and gives himself up way too easily. One of the biggest reasons the offenses has success is his ability to run. If he’s not doing it enough to keep the D honest or effective enough then defenses will focus in elsewhere defending the offense
Their cutting back on the RPO's, which again, I thought you complained about last year.

4-0, be happy for once.

Let’s put it this way: Mike Vick was successful because of his legs. If say he’s hurt in a game and can’t move as well the defense has no worry. And can defend other assets of the offense.

Meh. I feel you are being critical for sport at this point. So what if he "looks scared" it doesn't really mean anything. When he went on that 24 yard scamper late, he didn't look scared to me. Its obvious he has been coached to not go "Josh Allen" on the league this year with his running style. He is THE most important player on the team and if he is somehow injured for a long spell, the season is cooked.

With that said, the team is averaging the exact same amount of rushing yards thru 4 games as last year. Keep on finding ways to win, keep getting better and hopefully by the Murder Gauntlet, the team will have really found its groove. All you can really ask for. I'm not a big guy for "style points" with wins. Herm Edwards style for me.

My complaint is don't design a QB draw or an RPO and then have the QB slide 1 yard down the field to avoid contact. Eliminate those plays and run a more traditional offense if that's what you're coaching him. If he gets flushed out of the pocket on a broken play and does that, fine. However if the play design requires him to run, then he should be willing and able to absorb a minimum amount of contact. If you don't want him taking hits, DON'T CALL THOSE PLAYS!

Word. I cringe every time a QB draw is called- and they have always been called at the absolute wrong time this year. I can’t remember seeing one successful call, yet. Johnson is no Shane Steichen, and it seems like he and Hurts are struggling to get on the same page this year.

Hopefully, he grows into the role. The Offense hasn’t been horrible- I live what they’re doing in the run game. But the passing game still looks disjointed, at times.

I have faith. Shane Steichen took some time to become the play caller he is. Everything with time patience and practice. Keep feeding AJ Brown!

One thing to remember is this Johnsons' first year calling plays in the NFL. I think we've already seem some improvement in the comfort level between him and Jalen. But its going to be a process throughout the year.

I don't care if Johnson wants to put his stamp on the offense, my problem is if you're coaching Hurts to not take hits, then don't call plays (like QB draw or RPO) that put Hurts in harms way. Just run a more traditional offense and save the RPO, QB draw stuff for the playoffs.

Also, Howie Roseman left Desai in a pickle with the personnel he gave him at corner, safety and linebacker. The talent we have at those positions is not something that coaching or schemes will fix. They need an infusion of talent.

I feel that is what they are doing. Winning how they can now, while Johnson and Hurts get on the same page, and also saving Hurts' health. Feel they are saving him and more diverse play calls for later in the season.

Btw really really loved the option out of the Cheek Sneak/Tush Push/Brotherly Shove last week. I am sure they have more of that stuff in their bag this year.

Blankenship is solid. (just read something calling him "Vanilla Nice")
Edmonds has made some bone-headed plays, but he is serviceable.
Slay has been solid.
Losing Avonte and having Bradberry play in the slot has hurt the team overall
Jobe has done "OK" playing outside. Better than I expected, not great.
Signing Roby will allow Bradberry to swing back outside.
Morrow has been playing low-key really well the past few weeks. The Safety, his 11 tackles, 3 sacks and FF against WAS. Way above expectations, after getting cut in pre-season.
Cunningham has been pretty all right.

The Defense has been led by the Dline, and Fletch is playing out of his head for an old guy. Davis and Carter are on pitch counts right now, and having a huge impact. We essentially lost nothing letting Hargrave go and drafting Carter. The rest of the D will get better, if there are no more major injuries. Last year, we were extremely lucky to have avoided injuries all year. This year already lost Starting MLB and Both slot CBs. That's not really Howie's fault.

I’m being critical of the fact if they don’t want him doing that then don’t design those types of runs for him if that’s how you want him to play. Playing scared in football is the worst way to play. There’s playing safe yes but playing not to get hurt is worse. Anyone who’s played the game and was coached the right way will tell you that. My cousin has pulled young kids out of games for their protection. My uncle got pulled out from my grandfather not the coach and told coach he isn’t going in the field playing scared.

If you are telling hurts slide or run out more fine but he’s giving himself up with a defender 3-5 yards away he should beable to beat just running by them. That’s not playing to be safe that’s playing not to be hit

Also, Howie Roseman left Desai in a pickle with the personnel he gave him at corner, safety and linebacker. The talent we have at those positions is not something that coaching or schemes will fix. They need an infusion of talent.
Get me some talent at safery and Cb. I love slay but he’s clearly lost a few steps over the last few yrs. That pick 6 in NE was more of a gift. I like Blankenship but I feel he’s gonna be nothing more then a JAG if we don’t have more talent. Next year draft I would mind back to back to back secondary picks if possible.

He resigned Slay and Bradberry. I'm sure he looked at every available safety that he could. What was he supposed to do? CJGJ didn't seem like he wanted to be back at the price they offered.

Linebacker has always been the runt position.

I'm sure the coaches have drilled into Hurts mind all off season that they need him in Nov, Dec and Jan so take it easy in Sep and Oct on the number of big hits he absorbs. Hopefully they unleash him though in that rough stretch from week 9 to week 15.
It’s one thing to make sure he stays out of harms way but he looks noticeably slower to me this year when he decides to run.

Couple years back the man who shall not be named was in a similar position and this was not the same opinion lol

My favorite nickname for him right now is "Chalk Dawk" lololol

Would have been nice if we used that second first on Brian Branch instead of Nolan Smith. Not that Smith can't develop into a nice player, but his gotten 28 snaps in 4 games.

Yep that’s another issue he looks stuck in the mud when he does run. No burst.

My picks were always draft smith at 10 and then if branch was there take him or similar

Hindsight is 20/20 and all. I'd prioritize the pass rushers over S any day of the week. The trenches is what has always been our strength. Can't have everything.

I'd trade Brian Dawkins or Malcolm Jenkins for a DE any day of the week. Safeties are overrated. I think we should just play 11 DEs on defense.

Still can't believe we got Jalen Carter guys. Really just can't believe it. He is the highest graded defensive tackle in the entire league through 4 weeks, 1 spot above Aaron Donald.

"We didn't pay Jalen Hurts more to do less." - Nick Sirianni
It just seems like a weird complaint given how much we've expressed concern in the past Jalen's running and the hits he takes. Now he's (possibly) dialed it back and the new complaint is "he isn't running enough".

This is my biggest issue as well. I don't mind if he scrambles on a play and picks up yards but slides when maybe last year he'd try to get an extra yard or so. But I do mind when the play is clearly MEANT for him to run and he slides 1 or 2 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Edmonds blows as far as I can tell. There's a reason no other teams were interested in him. Color me surprised honestly.

Agree 100% that losing Avonte really hurt us but sliding bradberry into the slot compounded that. Swinging him back outside will be a big improvement. I'd still be ok with them going after Budda Baker but I know that ship has sailed.

Fletch apparently had a procedure to help his back this week. May be out a game.
Great. This is just great. :zzzip:
Could be huge. The way Philly D keeps this game out of reach is getting in Stafford’s face all day, every play. If Fletch is out and Tui is dinged up: Carter, Davis and Uncle Milty really have to step up and play high level for extended snaps. Maybe they activate Ojomo?

If Stafford has time to throw- he will absolutely feast on our soft middle coverage: Kupp, Puka, Tutu and Higbee. Murderer’s row of guys that can get open over the middle. Hopefully, Brown is back to take some of the slot snaps from Bradberry.

I think they view Street over Ojomo, but yeah I'd expect a call up. Davis and Carter probably can't be playing 60-70% of the snaps.

Fletch had an LESI

When somebody said Fletch had a procedure on his back, I went looking to see if I could find anything. Apparently, according to that link he had a Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection. It might not have been steroids (I think best practice has gone away from using steroids in the joint space related to long-term joint degradation) but, at least some local anesthetic was injected.

This is great news about his potential availability this weekend. Usually, after this procedure, there is really significant relief within 24-48 hours and he should be able to pkay. 🫰

Fly, Eagles, fly! 🦅

Hes been tearing it up

4-0.

Good work by the Eagles. The schedule is tougher this year, and they've responded. Looking forward to seeing you guys face Detroit and San Fran in the playoffs, because barring a Jalen Hurts injury, you guys will be there in fine fettle.

Nothing at all related to football and shameless brag but I flew into Vegas 4 hours ago and am already up $700 in poker solely against one player (a Cowboys fan)!
Damn, no update. You lost it all didn't you lol
Up $1217 in one night of playing 1/2 NL holdem. Much of my winnings came against Cowboys fan from Texas. But I will say that he was a really nice guy and great sport about it. :sadbanana: Just got very drunk and played like a moron.

definitely pace yourself.

And don’t take my advice on gambling. You know those fountains outside the Bellagio? I built those one weekend in 2015.

It’s suppose to be the future of concert venues

Saw somewhere that if Cox can't go this week it will be the first time he's missed a meaningful game (not counting after we clinched or were out of the playoff race) in the last 6 years.
