2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (9 Viewers)

Some random thoughts.
  • I don't understand the luck talk. Unless the ball is taking weird bounces or deflections, it isn't luck. KC as a team is leading the league (or close to it) in dropped passes. It's who they are this year. When the other team plays poorly, Eagles are lucky. Eagles play poorly and they deserve to die in a fire? Very weird take.
  • That being said, after 10 games everyone needs to stop waiting for the Eagles to play a complete game. Players, fans, keep saying it's going to happen like it's inevitable. Maybe this is what they are, a bit of a sloppy mess, but finding ways to win.
  • Sloppy play takes me to coaching. OC feels like he's hitting the random button in Madden sometimes. No flow, nothing setting up future plays. Generally baffling decisions. My "favorite" last night was after a failed WR screen to the left, he tries a failed WR screen to the right. Maddening. The go ahead pass to Smith was an audible by Hurts, so what is Johnson bringing to the table?
  • Desai is a better DC than Gannon, but that's a low bar and doesn't mean Desai is actually good. Still hate this style of defense, but we're stuck with it for now and at least dude makes adjustments and tries some different things. He's done more with less.
  • Been a little disappointed with the oline this year, but that's because my expectations are so ridiculously high. Lane now just looks great instead of his usual best lineman in the game. I wonder how much longer he and Kelce will play. I'm sure Kelce would have retired if they won last year. Those are big shoes to fill. We've been so spoiled for so long and I don't want it to end!
  • Hurts is legit. To say otherwise is being a hater, nothing else. He isn't perfect, no QB is. Did you see the errant throws Mahomes had last night? But how can you watch this guy play and not be thrilled he's on your team? Does he still have room for improvement? Yup. Is he still very young and can possibly improve? Also, yup.
  • As frustrating as they've been to watch at times, they still have the best record in football. Ugly wins beat pretty losses every time, so enjoy the ride!

I don’t mind hurts at QB I just think our fanbase severely overrates him a lot . I also can’t stand his little quotes and sayings. You say we need to do better as a team but I don’t see it. Actions for me speak louder. I don’t give a **** about motivational quotes. I care more about Super Bowl trophies.

Good guy teammates seem to like him but man stop with the dam quotes. Just say I wasn’t my best today and that can’t happen for us to reach our goals and be done with it. Motivational quotes are used for teams like the dam Giants who suck or bears not us. At this point his standards are well above his capabilities f that he’s set himself up if not reaching them it looks like it was a failure. His pr team really needs to get him to stop with these. I will say the ladies seem to like the quotes though

He’s also not my type of QB play I want. I’d prefer the Herbert’s, prime Rodgers, Big Ben’s of the world Mahomes and our a similar style to McNabb. Nothing wrong with that. Randall Cunningham is my favorite QB all time but I understabd he’s not the type who’s gonna win ya a SB either if you are looking for a franchise QB not a quick over the hump.

I know your hate of Hurts has been discussed ad nauseam. But omg you are such a weirdo about him. Did him replacing Wentz bother you that much? I say this as someone who was against that decision initially.

He is a top 5 QB in the league and we are lucky as hell to have him. And you hate him, it’s just weirdo behavior from who I assume is a long time eagles fan.

Lastly, Hurts is better than McNabb could have ever wished to be. And McNabb is why I’m an eagles fan. He’s also better Herbert.

Time will tell if Hurts is in the company of Rogers and Big Ben, but he is well on his way.
I just don’t see hurts having that it factor to win a SB. Watching him play he looks like another QB who’s gonna put up very good regular season games but doesn’t have it to win the big one. Good player but I think he’s gonna be another stats guy.
lol wut? I mean there's flaws for Hurts, but now it's the "it" factor? Before it was "I think he's just a RB", but since that take is laughable you're going with this one?

We most likely would have won the SB if Hurts hadn’t fumbled. So I think this is a really dumb thing to say.

But you know what, it’s fine. You don’t like Jalen Hurts and you never will. You never give him credit for anything. I’m just gonna assume you’re upset Wentz was benched for him.

You’re entitled to your opinion, I’m not going to attack you about it. I kind of feel bad for you, Hurts is gonna be Philly’s QB the next 10+ years more than likely. That’s a long time to not like your teams QB. Howie has done an amazing job at building a team around him to succeed.

I’m confident he will remain a top player for years to come and he will bring a Super Bowl to Philly, maybe even this season. I love him.
I literally said hurts fumble was costly but there’s a lot of fans who won’t even admit to that.

Also I don't think Hurts should be in the conversation for MVP. I think he quite literally has more of the 'it' factor then the stats factor, but he's not the MVP this year.
That said, not many QB's do. Mahomes isn't close. Dak and Purdy have better stats but run up the score on lesser competition (at least SF crushed Dallas, Dallas has been the definition of big wins against losing teams). I'd probably give it to Hill tbh, but if we're sticking with the QB to win it, its just to early to tell. Too many of these teams have big games coming up that we need to see before we can figure out who the real MVP is.

Worried about Lane. Pulled his groin Friday, and woke up today not feeling good. Getting an MRI right now. I'd lean towards him not playing.

Personally my opinion on MVP is someone who is most deserving in terms of putting up great numbers and how valueable they are to the whole team. Is the team still good without said player compared to the other players talked about? If yes I go elsewhere. I feel KC isn’t anywhere as good without Mahomes where the Eagles have proven in the past they are still sane good with a quality back up.

We also saw when Nrady tore his knee in NE and Natt Cassel came in they still won I believe 9-10 games that year. Indy loses Peyton and they aren’t a playoff team. So really if it’s a neck and neck race between those 2 I’m always going Peyton.

Then there’s a guy who blows numbers away like a Shohei Othani in Baseball on a horrible team putting up ridiculous numbers. He’s getting the MVP to me over the guy in the stacked team making the playoffs

Even with his tush pushes, he is middle of the road.

The Most Valuable Player award should go to the person who is most valuable to a team. Mahomes plays with third string WRs and late round RBs and wins rings. Hurts has all world OL, two top 10-15 WRs, and a stacked D. (Purdy the same as Hurts, plus much better stats ---but still not worthy).

I don't think the winning-est team record should weigh so heavily into it.

I've argue Stroud or Lamar over Hurts and Purdy quite easily.
I agree his stats are middle of the road... no one is arguing that? He also just finds ways to win. But if you don't think team win total should weigh so heavily, then yes, he wouldn't be in the conversation.

But again, it does play into it. And the "most valuable to a team" plays nothing into it.

So sure, I agree Hurts shouldn't be in the MVP conversation if Scooby1974 gets to decide the criteria of how the award is given out.
I appreciate that vote.

If I am the captain of my kickball team and the other captain stinks and just picks his friends...I get all the best players and they carry me to victory. That's Hurts and Purdy.

Mahomes, Stroud, and Lamar are the MVP front runners......they make their teams go.
Yeah no. You should watch them play. This team has 3-4 losses if they have anyone other than Jalen.
No way this team is 9-1 without Jalen. Devonta and AJ are great, no doubt. But god forbid Mariota starts this year- we are toast. You could argue Maholmes or LJax would outperform Jalen with this team, but, it’s all hypothetical.

And comparing Jalen to Dilfer on the Ravens?!?! C’mon, man 😅 That, right there, is why you take so much crap in this thread. There’s stuff to criticize in Jalen’s game, but that’s way off base.
Put Jalen on the Chiefs and they aren’t as good probably don’t teach the SB even. Put Mahomes in Philly we win a sb last year and are still probably undefeated. That’s the difference between those two in terms of good enough and elite.

what the **** are you talking about? This team trucked everyone last year and when Jalen went out and their backup went in (a guys that is a starter this year fwiw) they did nothing but lose.
Gardner Minshew is NOT A STARTER!!! Haaahahahaha

Hurts is mid. He is an average brain, behind the best OL withe two top 15 WR if he gets the ball to them. Plus he is a good running back.
See that’s what makes the eagles good they can make anyone look good at QB. Put Hurts on a few of these other teams and he’s a middle of a road player. I’ve argued for yrs with an development talent is great but if you don’t have the right coaches to help develop further you won’t be as good. Coming out of college hurts was viewed as a hit of a project not day 1 type starter.

The Eagles for yrs have developed a system of good QB play to other teams trade for them and don’t do as well. Wentz, Foles, AJ Feeley etc.

Yeah, it’s a hypothetical- so you can’t be proven wrong. You can have that opinion, but that doesn’t make it fact. Jalen doesn’t have the arm strength Maholmes does, so he can’t do everything Pat does. Especially on the move, ad-libbing and making circus off hand throws and stuff.

But, otherwise, they’re pretty comparable. From reading Defenses, making beautiful throws into tight windows, scrambling ability and all the leadership and intangibles. That’s my opinion.

Per Derrick Gunn

I’m told Lane Johnson popped scar tissue in his groin on Friday similar to what Sua Opeta did when he missed the Dallas game .. Lane is expected to return to action next week vs San Fran ….
