2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (2 Viewers)

How is Brian Johnson being talked about as a head coaching candidate?
I don't watch this as closely as you guys but why so much hate? The Eagles are probably the best 2nd half team in the league this year? That speaks volumes to the coaching staff and the adjustments that they make. Is he not calling the plays in the 2nd half?
We question whether the adjustments are really him.

Thanks. That's what I was wondering.

Not really scared of CMC dude is always a popped hammy from going down. Dude is made if glass
So you're not scared on the NFLs leading rusher who's second in scrimmage yards (15yds behind Tyreek) who hasn't missed a game since 2021 and plays for the leagues #1 offense. Got it.
Wait weren’t you that stats guy from yesterday in the first quarter? Can you post Hurts’ final stat line for us, you seemed to disappear, it was so weird?
Ya’ll are weirdos in here. Seriously
He’s kind of right though. Wing disappeared after things looked gloomy for the bills. He always makes backhanded compliments while whining how things aren’t fair for his team

This SF game is the first of two in a row where the opposing team is coming off of 10 days rest. Unfortunate that they are also the two most important remaining games. If you’d have told me preseason we would be going into this SF game with a single loss I’d be ****ing ecstatic.

SF can be beaten, obviously. They are also probably the best team we’ll face for the rest of the year.

They’ve got a lot of options on offense and they are suited to exposing the holes on our defense. The key for us is to get to Purdy early and often. Sweat and Reddick need to step up their game and not give him time or he’ll pick us apart. Not worried about CMC. I know he’s a stud but Jordan Davis is a mini cooper with arms.

If we can string together four quarters of offense like the final two last night then I think we win convincingly. That starts with Lane playing. I’m optimistic as he tried to go yesterday and he’s a tough SOB.

I had this as a win going into the season and I’m still convinced we will.
I'm not...at all. That 3 extra days of rest is huge, even more so considering the Eagles are coming off an OT game, which followed two previous dramatic and emotional wins. I said earlier I didn't think it unreasonable for SF to be favored. TBH, I'm not sure they're favored enough. I'll be extremally impressed if the eagles can win either of these next two games.

I thought if there was a letdown during this stretch it would be to an AFC team. I am sure the Eagles no how important these next 2 weeks are. Big if, but if they win both they basically have a chance to rest some guys like Lane for a few weeks before the playoff run.

For a month. That would be wild. No way that happens though. We gonna drop.one of them

If guys have legitimate injuries, I would say rest them. If it's just some dings and bruises, get out on the field. Time to rest on the bye.

Either way, we can worry about that after week 14 if we're 12-1. Very long way to go til then.

Law of averages suggests we will but their track record here certainly suggests we won’t. 27 wins over the last 30 when Jalen plays. This team is on a roll and I think if we drop one it won’t be at home. Dallas/Dak in Dallas is a tough order.

Until they lose it’s hard to bet against them.

I don’t hate the guy. I think he’s called some dumb plays in game, but he’s also called some beauties (a couple of jet sweeps to Swift that gained 12-15 yards each come to mind). I’ve also heard people say that Jalen checked out of a play (thinking of the TD pass to Davante in the KC game) and that’s an indication that Johnson’s play call wasn’t good in that moment. But it’s not like Jalen is grabbing the WRs in the huddle and drawing up a play on the back of his hand. Johnson has a hand in designing the audibled play as well, lol.

I think that they’ve been using the first half to show specific things and get the defense to defend in certain ways and then they adjust at the half and come out swinging. I’d agree that is indicative of a very good coaching staff (one that is frankly learning on the fly). I don’t believe some mystery person is taking over second half play-calling duties.

that was not smart by him. Some dude talking smack from the crowd probably just cost him some cash and headache
Never should touch a fan but I’ve seen a ton of fans get out of pocket and think they can do whatever. I’ve been to games where fans are heckling at events but there’s a few who after getting their beer muscles for 4-5 hrs go over the line and I can’t type what is said here without getting a timeout.

Like there’s good heckling like we did to Andre Either Dodgers OF at 09 Playoff game Vs the Phillies. We just kept chanting his wife’s name. Late in the game during a warm up between innings he went to over to the main guy gave a kid the ball and told the guy good job.

Then I’ve been at games where fans try giving death threats to guys family including kids. That’s not good heckling that’s just being a **** person who should be going to jail
NFL players are paid millions of dollars to know better
Sure are but fans also shouldn’t be dropping n bombs threatening death on players and their players either
Fans are idiots and do dumb things. No surprise here and no one should be surprised a fan said something stupid. Players are paid to act professionally.

Hopefully Lane, Goedert, and the rest of the guys heal up in time, this could be another classic. But to keep things in perspective, there's a good chance we'll meet again in the playoffs and that game will be way more important anyway.
Yup. Almost wonder if you play this game close to the vest and don’t give them too much film, knowing that there’s a good chance at a repeat NFCCG. We can suffer a loss this week, and possibly next week in Dallas, and still be the 1 seed.
Not until #1 seed with home field is locked up. Home field is paramount.

Nice win against the Bills.

While I still question your team’s overall national media perception vs. actual play (eyeball test). However, with that said, you guys find a way each week to pull it out, and no one can argue that. Well done.

Quick question - I saw Quez was activated. Looking for any insight on when he might actually play and get confirmation that he would slide back into the 3rd slot.

Honestly, rather have OZ out there than Quez. Also, with Julio Jones now on the roster, I don't think Quez will have any meaningful role the rest of the season.

Problem is Quez has a skill set no one else can replicate. He's fast as hell. The threat of his speed could open things up underneath for Davonta and AJ.

Question: if Elliott misses that kick, are we talking today about how amazing Hurts was in the second half?

I don’t think we are. I think there are some amazing talent surrounding Hurts which is propping him up some.

Hurts is a very good if not great QB. He could be a lot better.
CBS is stealing my schtick! https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...t-looks-like-mvp-chiefs-fix-biggest-weakness/

Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts is clutch, and so is Jake Elliott: What Hurts was able to accomplish in the second half for the Eagles in Sunday's comeback win is incredible (14 of 20 for 167 yards with three touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 134.8 rating), but the comeback doesn't happen without Elliott making a 59-yard field goal in the wind and pouring rain to force overtime. This isn't the first time Elliott has accomplished this, as the Eagles kicker has never missed a game-tying or go-ahead field goal attempt in the final two minutes of regulation or overtime (made all eight attempts). The Eagles have clutch players, and Elliott is one of them.

Bunch of hacks ... all of 'em!

Anybody heard anything about Zach Cunningham’s injury? He was supposed to have an MRI this morning on that groin. Losing him this week will leave a huge hole in the Defense against the 49ers.

This was my assumption too. Boom/bust fantasy player. However, as mentioned does he not clear zone coverage for your mid range passing.

no news yet afaik, but on a somewhat related note, it was cool seeing "CUNNINGHAM" on that kelly green jersey on the big screen throughout the game. i doubt it was an accident they (they = tv people) showed him standing at the line of scrimmage throughout the game whenever they could.

Either Quez or OZ get 1 or maybe 2 shots a game, and so far Quez has squandered most of them while OZ has made plays. plus as mentioned, Julio Jones is now in the mix (plus a potential Goedert return this week). Quez has speed, but he's been known to run bad/lazy routes and drop passes. Unless you're desperate, I'd personally shy away from Quez in fantasy (and in real football, too!)

I was wearing my kelly green #12 at the game.

This is one of those games where if Philly wins the toss they need to absolutely take the ball and try and get a score to make the niners play from behind. Tilts the odds in their favor in my opinion.

they do what other teams can't do - they finish games, they don't panic, they gets yards TDs pts when needed. Hurts is a winner kid balled out in college and has done nothing but ball out in pros.
here's the deal IMO..Eagles need that one game where they force feed D Smith , pepper him with targets and let him go nuts. that kid laid waste to quite a few teams in college, in the biggest games possible. he had 6 recs in the first ,what, 8 minutes of the SB then they stopped throwing to him?? he's uncoverable. give him 20 targets let him catch 14-15 balls, he's going to light up the niners. he's the real secret sauce for the Eagles.
and who is worried about a california team travelling east for matchup with the best team in football?! are we really scared of a lousy shanahan led team AGAIN?! you know he chokes in big games, we ALL know he does why is this any different?!
Eagles win in a rout.
I'm a Giants fan Eagles hater but have to give credit where it is due. they're unflappable. I'll drink the brock purdy kool-aid when appropriate dude hasn't won anything yet.

I agree with you, but I think 90% of the issue with the 1st Half playcalling is exactly that… Johnson/Siri wanting to hit the big play early. They abandon the run, or call stupid draws that look awkward, if they do run.

I wanna see them feed Swift, early and often, control the clock and then score. Not go 3-and-out the first 3 possessions because they’re looking for the big strike.

me too. Too many deep pass attempts on first down early in games. Thro a swing pass, a screen, a zone run. Get 4 or 5 yards to stay on schedule. If you get 7 or 8, THEN maybe mix in the deep pass attempt.

I agree it said Lawson was in the wrong while condemning the fan as well. The sad thing is that fan isn’t acting out of pocket I’ll public to him. He knows Lawson touches him in the stadium everyone sees out. I think the fan got exactly what he was looking for there.

Leonard the Colts LB was visiting Dal today and is visiting us tomorrow. Eagles cut Josiah Scott shortly after that was announced. So you do the math here. Cunningham is probably out and their signing Leanard

Kinda OT but I remember my high school football head coach would get pissed off at the OC for throwing bombs to receivers. We had a lot of speed my senior year so a lot of our drives was literally 2 deep passes and a TD.

Head coach would complain, “you guys need to put a good drive together.”

They’re bringing in shaq leonard for a visit, so it doesn’t seem great.
There was already interest in him before Sunday. I heard a lot of talk about them cutting Barnett to make room for Leonard.

Happy he left DAL without a contract. Seems like Philly in a spot where they have to get a contract done with Shaq. Not crazy about Christian Elliss getting the start against the 9ers with Kittle and CMC.

Sirianni will never do that. I agree with you and would love it if he did. But he won’t.

Care to elaborate?
No, I stated my opinion - I don’t wish to muddy your team thread.

I'm too am curious how they don't pass the eyeball test.

I don't think it can be understated just how difficult it is to beat an Andy Reid team, on the road, after a bye. It doesn't get any more impressive than that. Miami, KC, Buffalo and Dallas are tough teams to play against. I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of the week. A win is a win. Honestly, I think that might be the Eagles identity this year. Make the games ugly, hang around, and then capitalize on the other teams mistakes at the end.

Some people call it luck, but being clutch isn't luck. Luck is where opportunity meets preparation. MVS drops a sure TD. Do you think Smith or Brown or any Philly WR drops that? No way. Dak steps out of bounds because he tries to beat BG to the edge. Do you think Hurts is stepping out of bounds? Nope, he's cutting it up-field, taking the hit and getting into the EZ. Josh Allen rushes a throw in OT and has to settle for a FG. Do you think Hurts isn't taking the extra half second and finding his man in the EZ? It's not luck, it's being able to perform under pressure. Pressure does some funny things. It can either crush you, or turn you into a diamond. I think we know what it has done to the Eagles and what it has done to their opponents. Is it pretty to watch, not all the time, but the results sure are.

They’re turning into the Patriots. They’re a well coached, smart team with a studly clutch QB. They don’t make mistakes when it matters but their opponents do (e.g. see Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills games). They’re a very good team but on paper they do not appear to be far superior to the other very good teams. Any one of those games could have easily gone the other way. Time will tell if this team actually becomes the Patriots (i.e. multiple championships).
