2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (37 Viewers)

Why do players run their mouths? Coud come back to haunt.

San Francisco 49ers edge-rusher Nick Bosa said his team figured out how to shut down Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

"You see it on tape. Obviously, we put the blueprint out there. Hopefully, the Dallas Cowboys watch the tape," he told reporters. "We made Jalen stay in the pocket and escape outside instead of those B-gaps. And it paid off.
Boss voices questionable support to a certain individual and against players rights to protest. So he’s not very smart to begin with here. But yeah I don’t mind trash talking but it’s obvious to the 9ers and their fans we were their SB last week.

a) They're probably being interviewed and such, so yea they talk. This whole thing is entertainment, they aren't curing cancer or building nuclear plants here.
b) He's right. They didn't have some unstoppable defense - there were plays to be made. Jalen didnt make them because he wasnt seeing the field and making the right reads quickly - so until he does that better, then yea - it's a blueprint to stop him. They put the pressure on him to read the defense and make the right one-on-one throw. He's done a better job of it in the past, but he did a poor job in that game. Hopefully he and the coaches figure it out.

I'm way more concerned with the defense than jalen hurts

Big Dom suspended by the league for the Eagles-Dallas game. Is allowed to travel with the team to Dallas but cannot be on the sideline.

So, Shaq Lawson gets fined an undisclosed amount by the Bills and no league discipline for escalating a situation by putting his hands on a fan, but Big Dom gets a league suspension for putting his hands on a player to deescalate a situation.
@modogg

There is a ton of eagles podcasts/shows, this particular episode is a good one. A few highlights:

1) 1st 10-15 minutes they discussed the Eagles need to “run more”. Had some great data that they actually ran the 7th most in the league when they were healthy. Dropped to 29tg when Jurgens and Goedert went out. They also go in good detail about the whole thing

2) next 20 minutes go over the Dallas-eagles game. Good information, and I feel better about the Eagles game on Sunday. Can still go either way I think, close to 50/50, but they discussed some good analysis
They also were good at being objective. I didn’t realize the Cowboys OL had such a great game against us 1st time they played.

And the stats for our DL/overall defense is not good. They compare to last year and the league and we are in bad shape in some areas

I'd agree, but the comment I was replying to specifically referenced Jalen Hurts, so... If the defense is struggling, the offense needs to put together drives that keep them off the field.

I mean, it should also be noted that no other team has a D-line with Bosa, Young, Armstead and Hargrave. That is as much part of the blueprint as anything else.
Yep. Add in Fred Warner as a 2x All Pro that they used as a spy on Hurts... Not many teams have that. Technically Dallas *could* put Micah Parsons in that role, but that would be silly since he's an elite rusher.

How the F are the 49ers are still talking about the Eagles and whining after they beat the Eagles down as bad as they did? All I have heard this week was how bad Big Dom is and how they better fine him as much as they fine Greenlaw.

Is there any other fan base that has this sense of entitlement and whines as much as the 49ers? I never realized it or heard it until last years playoffs and it is way over the top, even across all 4 major sports. Is it their media team?

Just seems so strange for a professional organization to literally whine and cry so much. It has to be their media team right asking all the players and coaches particular questions to get these sound bites? And I guess it isn’t the entire team, is it just like half the players in that organization?

ETA: is it just my algorithms since I live in Philly that this is the only news that comes to me through the social media?

It can’t be that now that I think about it because like with the Bills. You heard about how the fans were upset about the penalties called against them and how our fans sucked and that is why the Bills players pushed him, but that literally lasted like 12 hours , absolute most 24 hours and that was mostly from fans and not players or the team.

Maybe Seattle fans or any other NFC West fans know more about it than we do?
The giants fans kept talking after beating us in the playoffs. They are sore winners and loser. It’s obvious last week was their Super Bowl. I can see a let down happening in the playoffs for them.

The org is soft and the owners show zero accountability. It’s one of the big reasons Harbaugh SBs vets left as ownership babies guys like Colin Kaepernick who from reports did as he pleased and was disrespectful to veteran teammates. When Harbaugh tried to make guys like CK accountable they’d run and cry to ownership. SF reminds me of a run nba organization where the players not the people up top make the decisions.

Their media plays into it as well. I remember all the Barry bonds controversy and he started playing the victim and then using the race card. The SF media are it up. Tim Kawakami who’s covered sf sports for yrs might be one of their worst. He covers the warriors at SF athletic but also did giants and 49ers. He was one of the big media guys when Buster posey got hurt championing how mlb should suspend the guy who hurt Posey despite posey blocking the plate. Because it was posey and he and SF and their media and fans whine, we now have the no running into a catcher at Home plate rule. One of the most exciting plays in baseball.

Dallas fans probably come the closes to the entitlement and whining. I use to hate sea fans more but simple because a lot were bandwagon hawks fans. But talking to my cousins wife and her family SF is probably the biggest group of whiners in the west outside of D back fabs in ARZ.

But it’s a culture fan for the 49ers. Treat them like entitled babies with no accountability and this is the behavior you get

Makes total sense in nfl logic. It’s like player safety rules. We’re gonna make some Cover our asses rules on hits to the heads but we refuse to open up our purses to get the players safer equipment so we do the bare minimum and hope players/coaches and fans don’t notice. We simple are doing enough to cover us from a lawsuit.

Eagles on Dom DiSandro:

“This is an ongoing conversation with the NFL, and we are going to respect the restriction that is currently in place. Although Dom will not be on the sideline this Sunday, he will continue to fulfill his role with the team in all other capacities."

I don't think the 2 seed would be that bad. Obviously if the top seeds win out, playing at home vs SF would be better than on the road. But, IF we get the 2 seed...

This team ain’t making the SB let alone winning a playoff game this year right now
They could win a playoff game but it’s hard to imagine them winning a superbowl. They haven’t really looked dominant all year (even against weaker teams). Last year they looked like the best team in football the entire year.

We have the time and the luxury to figure this crap out. Who knows if we can but we have done enough to give us that opportunity.

#49ers move into the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They have tiebreaker over #Eagles.

San Francisco's final 4 games:
at Cardinals
vs Ravens
at Commanders
vs Rams

Philly's final 4 games:
at Seahawks
vs Giants

If it come down to the Rams game- the Rams take SF behind the woodshed and we vault back into 1 seed.

Both teams go 3-1?
SF hold tiebreaker so Eagles need to at least 3 and hope SF drop 2 or win out and hope SF drop 1.

I can see us losing in Sea next MNF though again big time

Easy lots of time to fix what’s wrong.
When you are in week 14 and still haven’t, “put it all together” you probably just aren’t as good as you thought you were
Been saying all year we aren’t that good this year. Expected a drop off but we are lucky to have the talent we have in this team or we could be much worse record wise

I don’t get that. 49ers lose three in row mid season they rebound no big deal.
Eagles lose two games to better competition and still have 4 games to get it right.
If the Eagles don’t figure it out sure jump on them. But they have the time and the past wins to be able to figure this out.

What's with all the pessimism? Okay, they lost a couple games to great teams. They're still one of the title contenders. Did you expect to steamroll the entire league?

Better to lose games now and look a little lost than deal with this in January. They'll be fine.

(Not an Eagles fan. Just not sure why people think the sky is falling. Seattle is a get-right game, and you can count on the Cowboys dropping a game or two they should win).

stop with the doom and gloom guys. That was a BRUTAL stretch. Losing to a well rested SF team and on the road to a well rested Dallas team, no matter what the scores were, isn't the end of the world. This team still has the talent to go deep in the playoffs. The offense today moved the ball well but had three not so characteristic turnovers. The defense looked lost in the first half but played much better in the second.

Now we have an extra day to prepare for Seattle, who quite frankly isn't built to move the ball like the last SIX teams in a row have been. We've faced SIX TOP OFFENSES in a row, and won four of them. Of course the defense looks gassed.

Eagles will win out and win the East. It's unfortunate that they no longer hold control of the top seed, but SF could slip and give it back. If they don't, ok then...Eagles can still capture the 2 seed and be ok.

THIS TEAM IS STILL VERY VERY GOOD.

Agreed. Would have liked to see us fare better the last 2 weeks though. I think we are still a top 5 team, but not a top 3 team.

Bring on the 2 seed. I think we go 3-1 in the final 4 games, which means Dallas has to WIN OUT (@BillS, @ Dolphins, vs Lions, @ Washington)... really don't see that happening. Means SF has to play Dallas for their first playoff game. Luckily only one of them can move on.

Remember guys, before the season, almost every one of us had us sitting at 3 or more losses at this point in the season.

@Insein you basically had everything nailed so far (just swap the Buf and SF results)

Obviously we all thought there would be losses on this stretch. But we didn't think it would be such a loss to the point where it looked like they were a .500 team. Yes the spots were awful but the play calling, effort and coaching were just awful these 2 weeks.

I had to turn it off, disappointing effort 2 weeks in a row. That said we are still in a good spot, anything can happen but coaches need to get it together. The pack caught up which was bound to happen with our schedule. Let’s see how Dallas fares as their schedule finally gets tougher.

I posted earlier that there’s an argument that the 2 seed is an easier path to the Super Bowl as you’d be hosting the lowest seed in week 1 (Packers if it was today) and then hosting the winner of Lions-Vikings. This would mean also that Dallas and SF would beat each other up before we’d go to SF or host Dallas in the NFCCG.

You miss out on the bye but with the 1 seed you’d almost certainly have to face SF AND Dallas again.

Is that really how it works? I thought it readjusted so 2 seed would face the higher seed still in it ?

I know the titles are just fun but no way is there a "collapse"

Yes, Eagles look to be 3rd best in NFC.

But hard to imagine an easier path to win out as no team in the league has a softer schedule to finish than Eagles. No team has a cushier path to 4 wins to close out.

They don’t face a team with a winning record the rest of the way. (Opponents combined record is 17-33).

Including Arizona and Giants twice.

yep. They don't travel well to Seattle, but think they should still win that game. And if they are a legit contender (which I believe they are) they should handle their business in the last three weeks. Finish the season at 14-3, which is a game better than I had them pre-season.

Cowboys almost certainly drop a game over the next four (@BillS, @Miami, Lions, @Washington) and even if they don't we'd still be in command of the NFCE.

Niners *probably* win out, but I could obviously see a scenario where they lose one to Baltimore, which would jump us back to the 1 seed.

Of course this is all predicated on the supposition that the holes on this team are fixable. If they can't right the ship on both sides of the ball, then this is all for not. I'm still optimistic.

I thought it was fixable after the SF debacle. I still expected them to lose this game...but to get blown out again? Might not be fixable in-season.

Absolutely. Cowboys are underdogs at Buffalo and likely will be underdogs at Miami. Their schedule is tough. Eagles, Bills, Dolphins and Lions is brutal.
