2023 Pittsburgh Steelers. Banged up team loses to Buffalo. Looking ahead to 2024 now (11 Viewers)

I don't think the Steelers will draft another QB on the first night, but wouldn't shock me if they start looking on day 2.. I am not sure if they continue with Pickett. He just gets too hurt.

Worried but feel better it's at home
Don't worry. We got this. We're going to win by 9+.

Predictions:
  • Najee and Warren each get over 80 total yards
  • Kenny throws for 2 TDs
  • Defense gets 2 takeaways
  • TJ gets 1.5 sacks
  • Minkah gets a pick
  • Kyler Murray has a wild scramble that gives Steelers fans heartburn
  • James Conner has a nice run that makes us feel nostalgic
  • Steelers burn a timeout because we have too many/too few players on the field
  • Najee and Warren each get over 80 total yards - Nope
  • Kenny throws for 2 TDs - lol
  • Defense gets 2 takeaways - so many missed fumbles
  • TJ gets 1.5 sacks - he got to Murray twice but only shows 0.5 sacks?
  • Minkah gets a pick - He got a broken hand!
  • Kyler Murray has a wild scramble that gives Steelers fans heartburn - Check
  • James Conner has a nice run that makes us feel nostalgic - Check, check, check
  • Steelers burn a timeout because we have too many/too few players on the field - and too few
So, kind of right, except for the part where I thought our offense would do anything. It felt like deja vu, we moved the ball to start, but no points. And then we couldn't execute for crap because our Center is horrendous and because our route concepts end with receivers/TEs in the same area drawing coverage together.

Still holding out hope for the season, but if we lose to the Pats idk what will happen.

Is this proof that Sullivan shouldn't call plays? Or was it purely execution, felt like a lot of play calls were not great.
Plenty of self inflicted problems Sunday. Was at the game so didn’t get to watch the broadcast. What stuck out the most were Cole killed two drives single handed with bad snaps. Three very bad personal foul penalties by the D and special teams. Fourth and goal was a good call to go for it. Play call was a head scratcher.

Kyler looked like he was way off. Trey McBride deserved a game ball for pulling down some great catches. He and Connor did the most damage.

How are Steelers currently in playoffs while Texans are not since h2h Texans beat them? Assume h2h doesn’t count when different divisions?
So unless it changed you break division ties first then for multiple same record teams h2h only comes into play if one team beat all the others or lost to all the others. Then it's conference record then h2h if it's down to one team. Once a team gets seeded the process starts at the beginning

... Seems like the Steelers should have an easy win and then another vs the 2-9 Patriots on a short week at home...
... Why do I get the feeling they are going to blow one or both of these games?
Got to credit Godsbro, he called it but the NFL has gotten greedy adding so many games that it has turned into an attrition contest.
The Steelers don't lose that game if everyone was healthy but look around the league and see which teams lost that would have won if they weren't limping through the end part of the season.
AFCN was rolling a few weeks back, now down 3 of 4 starting QBs and key injuries on defense. Ravens have the only healthy starting quarterback and get a late BYE. Teams don't get healthy late in the year unless they have that late BYE.

I just had this feeling that we were going to blow this game. Now we are on a short week with Mitch friggin' Trubisky at QB. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a 7-3 loss with the Pats scoring the TD on a pick 6.

The Pats are averaging less than 9 points per game on the road this year and have a grand total of 7 over the past two games.
I doubt they have been playing opossum and have been hiding the Greatest Show on Turf and that we'll see an offensive fireworks display. They are beaten down and the Steelers got their wake-up call, I call back-to-back shutouts for the Patriots in consecutive games.
I don't know what the line is, and I never gamble but if I did, I'd bet the house on the under in this game and confidently parlay the Steelers taking the win.

Fun fact the NEP have given up 8.7 pts per game in their last 3 games (26 pts total) and scored 13 pts total

Steelers have scored 12 pts per game in their last 3 games (36 total) and given up 47 total pts

This will be ugly

And the entire country gets to witness it lol.

I didn't quite understand why scoring 16 points and beating a Bengals team without Burrow, Higgins, and part of their defense made people get so excited about this team this year. Sure, getting 400 yards and having Pickett take some shots was nice, but the competition wasn't very much.

SInce 2000, 7 teams had been outgained in every game played through week 10. Only 1 of those teams had even 2 wins, while the Steelers had 6. Their record has people thinking they're something they're just not. The terrible offense was hiding that the defense was giving up a ton of yards but overcoming it with turnovers. When games happen that they don't generate multiple turnovers, that's not sustainable either.

It's not a good team. It wasn't a good team when they won games early because of lucky breaks and TJ Watt, it wasn't good when beat the Bengals, and it's not good today. The best thing that could happen to this team is to implode, because it's the only way Tomlin will end up on the hot seat like he deserves and might be forced into making some wholesale changes to how the offense is coached. Looking around the league, it's easy to see the kind of impact top coordinators and offensive-minded coaches can make, and the Steelers have neither.

The Steelers might win at home by a touchdown, but they shouldn't be favored by 6 against anyone, much less with Trubisky starting.

-Good night to catch a Hallmark Xmas flick with the SO
-Maybe there will be lightning again the whole time
-And sadly - Ben is still our best quarterback.

I'm down for giving Mitch a chance. Has a much better arm and only started like 5 games with Canada "coordinating" the offense. Key is to limit bad decisions throwing into double coverage. Oh and coaches getting the team on the same page...

It was because the offense finally had a sense of flow and Pickett had a much better outing. It looked like maybe some things were being fixed, and even though we didn't do great in the red zone, we finally looked like the much better team.

That all came crashing back down this week. Mostly because Kenny has a knack for not seeing wide open receivers.

Also, maybe don't take off and run if you've had a hurt ankle all week.

O/U 31 with Pittsburgh favored by 6 for an implied score of 18.5 to 12.5

Feels like even that is high based on where the teams are at. Makes me think of the Iowa Hawkeye lines.

Though when is the last time an NFL O/U was under 30?

Forecast looks clear btw - 37 degrees and low chance of precip

Good night to catch a Hallmark Xmas flick with the SO
"Honey, I know I spend so much time during the NFL season watching games, etc. I want to make it up to you tonight and not watch the NFL game and instead let's watch watch a movie of your choice". Win. Win. Get some brownie points with the wife and not have to watch this abysmal game. Play your cards right and you might even get lucky after the movie

Is there another reason to watch a Hallmark movie OTHER than to get lucky afterwards?

I mean, otherwise those are some very, very costly brownie points.

I have a close friend who gets sappy and emotional watching them. And by close friend, I mean me.

Prepare to be absolutely worn out by the praise the two head coaches are going to get during the broadcast.

In general the Steelers have not turned the ball over much and have not been flagged a lot on offense. Yet they are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league. That is some crazy amount of ineptness.

You nailed it with fan over reaction. The Steelers wins have been smoke and mirrors mostly due to a pathetic coaching & offense. Steelers could easily have 2-3 wins vs 7 right now.

Despite that, I don't think it's a bad thing to have HOPE and Believe the Steelers can do some damage with Canada gone. Offense has an opportunity to come together. Build momentum and compliment the D. Coaches have to do better to have a shot at winning. I believe and hope the Steelers can get there.

Can't do it.

Our ceiling is too low and it's IMO due to the offense. The D kept our floor up but we no IL's left we are susceptible to any well executed game plan. (Run and throw to your TE) So even that is lowered.

But the O has to be fixed first. Canada is gone so we need his replacement and Picket needs to be next. At 3.5million/year guaranteed for 2 more years that's backup money which is about what he has shown his level to be.

Cut Trubisky and spend the 7.5 mil on players that contribute and draft/sign training camp competition for KP. Picket ain't it and you will either figure that out now or later.

Did you know that Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season? And Belichek is the GOAT (when he had Brady).

Maybe the Manning's will do a 1 week special on TNF, Bezos will catch wind of it and see if they want to actually play.

He can't even believe himself at this point.

Tomlin was asked why Trubisky will be getting the start over Mason Rudolph on Thursday night. “Because he gets the most work.”

noticed that too. Rudolf gets practice squad reps as the reason why he won't start Mason??? Comical. Don't make excuses. Just say Mitch is the next man up.

"Because we pay him more, and we've disliked Mason ever since Garrett said that Mason said a slur."

I like Mitch. I like that this game comes quickly on the heels of that debacle. I like our chances to bounce back in a “Steeler blowout” win of 17-6. Agreed with Steelers and the under.

Trubisky on a short week. I can't think of a good reason to start any of the WRs if you have any comparable options.
The only good reason is that BB likes to shut down whatever your team does best on Offense. Whether it's lock down the #1 WR or stuff the run game. Well, our best offensive weapons right now are definitely the running backs, so if we want to move the ball we'll have to throw. That's the only argument for them.

Rumors that Kenny was on his way to getting benched before Canada was fired. Not sure if that means he still has a short leash, he was moving the ball much better against the Bengals, but still no scoring and missing wide open receivers/RBs/TEs. Just not seeing them at all.

We might have seen Mitch this week even if Kenny didn't get hurt last week. And there must be something behind the scenes with Mason that we just don't know about. Or, they don't think he can survive behind our O-line.

I still think Kenny could develop into a decent QB, like in the 10-16 range, but I'm a bit more convinced that the Steelers might make a move at QB this offseason.

First off, Kenny deserved to be benched prior to Matt Canada's firing. He did look better after Canada was gone but it was against a bad defense and a very short sample size. Unless the Steelers make the playoffs , it sounds like he is done for the season.

Like it or not, we are stuck with Trubisky and this is likely his last chance to show the NFL that he can be a QB in this league, if not a starter at least a capable backup.

We know that Pickett is going to be in the QB mix in 2024, Mitch's future with the club depends on his performance here on out. Rudolph appears to be just an afterthought.

Unless Trubisky shows that he worth keeping, the Steelers really have to consider drafting a QB in the first or second round next year, especially if a decent one falls into their lap.

There not drafting a QB that early... Pickett will be the starter in 2024.

I can see them getting a QB at some point on Day 3, but they will let the new OC work with Kenny before they draft another QB.

Is Johnson a sneaky play? Believe Mitch threw the TD to him last game. Not sure how many targets he gave him or was it just that one since I didn't watch the game. Either way good sign to come for Johnson getting more looks / looks in the redzone?
