2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (45 Viewers)

Garland from 40 feet says good night (after some really seriously questionable ref calls to get this game tied)
That whole last minute of ball was inexcusable, infuriating, and just plain dumb on all accounts. And it will all be forgotten by the weekend.

I know its not life or death, long season, etc. But Durant, Booker, and Beal yucking it up on the bench while the Suns are getting beat by 30+ is an interesting choice.

Ingram to Raps. Nice acquisition by them.

Made zero sense for Pellies to do nothing.

Mark Williams has obvious potential but damn hefty price for a 5. Knecht 4 will look good along with Lamelo. Then to also get an unprotected 1st and pick swap is really nice

Packaging Knecht is surprising to me. It was what, a month or two ago when he was lauded as being a genius under-the-radar pick, no?

I mean, LeBron was flat-out boasting -- full of **** or not -- about how they snagged this guy while the rest of the league was sleeping. Funny stuff.

So does Knecht get to do the needle -- or whatever it is -- celebrations still?

Maybe it worked on Charlotte?

Idk much about Williams other than he fits the idea of a lob target for Luka and Bron. That is gonna be one horrific defense team though.

Just realized Dalton Knect just went from playing with Bron and Luka to whoever the hell the Hornets have and also has to move from LA to Charlotte (nice city but not LA). Rough.

Lakers send Knecht, Reddish, unprotected 2031 1st and a 2030 1st swap to Charlotte for Mark Williams

Seems like a lot for Williams. Not thrilled about this one.
Williams has shown flashes but had a lot of injuries. I've lamented that the Hornets young core has been too injured to play many games together and truly evaluate. I guess they've seen enough on Mark.

It's funny because he was getting absolutely roasted for his effort against the Wizards a couple days ago. Obviously going to have some fun stats with his size and ability on the offense. Wish him the best, but like the return.

I guess the Lakers' rationale must be that, with Luka, all their picks for the next seven years are going to be at the bottom of the first round. That's a much safer assumption than it was last week but still pretty risky. Almost no one trades unprotected picks these days for non-star players.

Feels like tonight is a bit of a litmus test for the Wolves. I know it's game two of a back to back, Houston is good, and a loss shouldn't be hugely meaningful, but with all the trades and lingering around teams improving in the standings it seems like the Wolves need to demonstrate whether they are a potential contender this season or not.

are these Mavs moves an indication that they think Jason Kidd is going to bring them a title? he likes defense, they are bringing in defense first players and jettisoned their 1A offensive player.

There have been some godawful trades the last few days.

Obviously the Luka trade takes the cake.

Butler to GSW and they dump one of their few decent shooters and two way players and give him an extra $65m or whatever. If it was the same trade with Green and Wiggins flipped, it would have made a little more sense to me but still been an overpay for little improvement in their roster.

The Raptors making a win now move for Ingram for a first rounder for a player that they could have signed in 5 months, doesn't shoot from deep especially well, needs the ball in his hands to be effective, and will probably make their 2025 pick slightly worse as he raises their floor a little bit. This is something the Bulls or Wizards from the last half decade would have done to chase the play-in.

Moops mentioned this too but I don’t see it. Spotrac has them at $13.5 million maximum cap space and that’s after dumping Olynyk in the trade.
Sign and trade with New Orleans in the offseason. Or dump Quickley, Or find a home for Poeltl. Plenty of ways to get Ingram if they really wanted him. But the bigger point is why? Ingram is not good enough to move them into contention and if they max him, well they will be regretting that the moment it is signed

The NBA is starting to lose me much in the same way college football did with NIL money.
Want to explain this a little more?

Just like a cocaine high, Heat Culture isn't sustainable and the crash off of it leaves you feeling empty and gross.
More like I don’t really understand all the new apron business and the like. Same as nil making ncaa all about money grabs for players.

Contracts and commitments don’t really mean anything anymore in either of these sports. Not saying people shouldn’t get paid , they definitely should but it’s instant gratification or I’m out of here.

When etienne left UF And went to Georgia of all places I was done with the ncaa. When butler got pouty bc he wanted another 50 million from Miami or I’ll just go through the motions I stopped watching the heat.

Maybe I’ll go back to paying attention but the doncic deal kind of feels the same. Screw the fan base we will just do what we want w the TV money and stadium building property revenues but you guys just keep buying the jerseys and the streaming services to watch our games.

I had no idea that awful team had that much salary earmarked for next year. I really don't understand their roster but at least they finally have an honest to goodness 3 rather than playing SGs at SF after trading OG last year. The fit of Ingram with what they had, other than him being SF sized, is terrible.

Not sure those deals (plus Olynk) were easily dump-able. There's so much bad salary on that team. One of the worst situations in the league IMO.

ok, I get the bigger point you’re making.

For what it’s worth, I suspect it would be practically impossible to dump Quickley into another team’s cap space.

Realized that Charlotte also has Dallas' top 2 protected pick in 2027. I'm more bullish on how they look with AD than most, but that only would take an injury or two in their older core to be valuable in a competitive West.

Really hope they can find a team willing to take on Miles Bridges. And probably need to get a warm body at the 5. What is Biyombo up to?

Poeltl to LA apparently made too much sense as well.

Are there any players left to trade today?
Vucevic seems primed to move. The Lakers were a good destination before their trade with Charlotte.

Denver would be a nice place. Vooch seems willing to be Jokic's backup with no complaints. I don't know how the salaries would match up.

Vucevic was told he probably wouldn’t be traded but K.C. Johnson tweeted this morning that there are talks with the Warriors again. I don’t think he’ll be traded but who knows.
