2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (115 Viewers)

so SGA is now the worst defender in the Thunder starting lineup. That’s pretty much the perfect trade for Giddey, a PG who slots right in, can defend, and won’t derail the offense. Still have all the cap space and the picks
Are you ****ing kidding me with this trade?
But seriously, how did the Bulls not grab an additional first from OKC. My god
As a laker fan, he’s better than Austin reaves. They should have kept Caruso.
Caruso - PER - 6.8, WS/48 .081, BPM -2.9, VORP 0.0
Giddey - PER 16.1, WS/48 .098, BPM +0.8, VORP 0.1

And just for Lakers fans
Reaves - PER 16.5, WS/48 .104, BPM +1.1, VORP 0.2

All have played in 6 games. Giddey is with a new team as well and Caruso has the better supporting cast.

Maybe the owners, GMs and coaches that keep letting him move teams and don't start him or play him over 20 mpg know something?
I mean this is just bad trolling, right? I hope?
No, those are all real quotes from the first 2 pages of this thread. People actually think Caruso is the great white hope.
Since I’m being dragged into this for some reason.

I don’t, nor have I ever thought Caruso was the great white hope. He’s a pretty good player. Great team mate. And plays hard all the time. He was never a stat filler. And I stand by my statement that the lakers never should have shipped him off.

This Toumani Camara cat the Blazers got as a throw-in to the Lillard trade has been pretty damn solid. Like...they should be actively shopping J. Grant now kind of solid. Good little core of youngins in Portland and boy howdy, just wait until we get all them Bucks' picks after Anteater bolts. Hot damn kilogram.

Some early Nuggets thoughts:
  • Getting to the playoffs rested is going to be the bigger problem. They are running Jokic into the ground right now. They need to be trying Cancar and Nnaji at center to see if either of them can slow the bleeding in the non-Jokic minutes.

I see the lakers the same way so far. Their total lack of bench along with no decent big on the roster outside of AD is totally running him ragged so far. A couple injuries aren’t helping things, but I don’t trust their medical/training staff to make this any better.

Last night, the combination of Max Christie, Gabe Vincent, and Cam Reddish played 35 minutes and scored 0 points (0-2 fg) with 0 assists. Yuck.

Oof, Shams reporting Aaron Gordon out for multiple weeks (calf strain).

IF he comes back 100% in 3-4 weeks, I think this might be a good thing long term for them. They really need to get some of their bench guys going and this should give Nnaji and Watson lots of time with the starters, and hopefully Saric and/or Cancar can carve out a positive role in the meantime.

On the other hand, the Nuggets have had three players playing especially well to start the season and he was one of them and calf strains can linger for a long time. I was at the game last night and we got there a little too early so we watched the full pre-game warmup. I was really focusing on him because his shot has looked better and more confident this season so far - during warm ups it was obvious to me that he made his shot a little more compact/quick and consistent. His shot was looking soooo good.

I made that same comment to my dad last night. Knecht looks like a real player and Vandy might be back soon and he's at least an NBA player. They should look to dump Hood-Schifino and second or something and sign Lonnie Walker. He would instantly be their 6th best player and he knows most of the team.

Embiid got suspended for three games. I bet his injury heals a bit faster now to start that suspension game count sooner.

i hate grayson allen briefly interrupted for a while when he was a buck but now i hate him again take that to the bank bromigos

If they can get half a roll of toilet paper for Hood-Schifino plus whatever they should take it.

They've got to find a way to trade Russell for anything remotely useful. They're not going to win late round playoff series, or probably any playoff series with him, may as well try to shuffle the deck with his expiring contract.

Vincent was such an obvious overpay when it happened. Stuck with him another year probably. I hope Redick doesn't keep doubling down on giving him big minutes thinking he rediscovers his contract year magic. I'd rather see them spend those minutes on Christie to see if there's anything there.

On the Twitters there was a clip of a reporter interviewing Jokic in the locker room. What struck everyone was the reporter being the same size as Jokic, but no one knew he was.

I guess I am getting old because I recognized the reporter immediately: the legendary Scott Hastings.

These announcers are completely sure that it wasn’t intentional. What a bunch of *********. There’s no reason that he had to move his knee like that, so I don’t know how anyone could be sure that it wasn’t intentional
Anyone other than Grayson Allen and I'd say it looks like he may be trying to hurdle and avoid colliding. But it's Grayson Allen. Let's be real - he's kneeing a guy in the head. It's what he does.

2024 In Season Tournament thread is up with a link to the google sheet.

Jump in fools! Its the most important basketball event and trophy EVER!!!

Grayson Allen is a dirty SOB
who did he trip this time take that to the bank brohans
Flying Knee to the head this time
You all are terrible. Post a link my god
Wow. How has he still never been cold-cocked? I guess it's just too expensive. They should do some sort of secret bounty on this guy, with fine included. Maybe a bench player would light his *** up finally. I mean there isn't another player in a long time, in any sport, I would love to see go down more than Allen.

I'm going with incidental. White guys simply have no idea what to do when they get over 18 inches in the air.

Especially when they’re thinking about their upcoming re-election

boston versus the dubs was a fun game take that to the happy little not the bucks stinking it up bank brochachos
I'm glad I didn't get to watch it.

I hate when my team loses to the teams I don't like. I never enjoy a Celtics loss, but I would have been yelling at the players through my TV watching them lose to GSW.

Thought this was supposed to be the Jason Tatum revenge tour

Rewatching highlights of the GSW-BOS game. GS very active on defense, seem to be funneling weak hand on every ball screen - ice when they go middle out of the left slot, blitzing/doubling when they come out of the right wing. BOS on the other hand much to passive. GS screening 45 feet away from the basket and they are content to give them the switch with the 5 on Curry in space. Tatum's defense on the last possession was Hardenesque. He is playing the gap off of Hield but then just stands there, failing to plug the driving lane AND letting Hield drift to the corner - gotta take away something. If he steps up on penetration it might give the secondary rotation time to close out on Hield. Hield may get the shot off anyway but his % goes away up giving him that much time and space on the shot.

By the way, Alex Caruso is #1 on the Thunder in both defensive rating and net rating when on the court. The Thunder have the #1 defense in the league. @Jayrod

He's busy watching Buddy Hield making it rain from 3. So pretty to watch him catch and shoot. 50% from 3! Fifty!

Kerr is the man as many thought this franchise was on the decline. Turns out they only needed someone who could make 3s. T&Ps Klay.

Also loving how this Rockets team is taking shape. More Tari and Amen, less Jabari and Brooks seems to be the recipe for success. I think the only reason Jabari keeps seeing starting minutes is his draft position and height. If he's a second round pick and 6'5" he's probably floating around the G League.

Sheppard looks small out there but not as much of a liability on defense as I initially thought. Once his shot starts falling and he gets more comfortable, he'll be a great asset to spread the floor and distribute the ball.

I'm over Cam Whitmore. Hope they package him in a trade - good for instant offense but hasn't figured out that passing is an important part of the game.

Weird comment. Shot 39% on 9/game last season. Shooting 39% on 9/game this year.

I don't get into the weeds with stats as they're easily manipulated and often don't paint the entire picture. They're helpful but I'm commenting on what I see on the court, flow of the game and results. You can have your 39%, I'll go with 7-1 to support my point

Lol. You should use your eyes to see the defense then. It's not 3 point shooting that was missing LMAO. Number of shots and % are tough to "manipulate" - might be easier to recognize you said something kinda dumb and recant.

There will come a lengthy stretch, probably soon, when Hield starts having games shooting 2/12 on 3s and his other liabilities will become more evident.

I wasn't aware of Buddy Hield's defensive prowess but I'll take your word for it my guy

Oh I didn't realize this was so wrong as to say Buddy Hield is why the Warriors are winning :lmao:

But just so you're aware, their defense is better than their offense. Both are excellent. They've got improved play out of Wiggins, Podziemski, Jackson-Davis, and Moody. Hield is obviously on a bit of a hot streak on offense, but he's more or less providing exactly what Thompson provided last year. Steph is shooting better from three too, although on 2 less/game.

Jackson-Davis has improved in every single facet of the game. Moody has improved in every single facet of the game (btw he's also unsustainably hot from three).

I don't mean to pick on you here, but it's a weird choice to say something so wrong and then double down on it with a haughty comment about using your eyes. I'll stop here, no need to spend more time proving it, but suffice to say your eyes need some work if you think Buddy Hield is why the Warriors are 7-1, my guy.

Let us non-NBA nerds enjoy 50% shooting from 3 in peace. Dorks.
