2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (90 Viewers)

Imagine that.

Green being a clown and Kerr both enables him and then goes after the officials.

Guy has flat out assaulted multiple people on the court (and off) and everyone acts like it is business as usual.

He needs a real long suspension. Like months at this point. I don't care if he just sneezes at another player. All benefit of the doubt gone.
A coach standing up for his player!!?? What the hell
I've always hated that statement about coaches and refs because it has the underlying assumption that the refs are against the players.
So referees are correct 100% of the time and should not be questioned?
So referees are biased and intentionally help teams win or lose?
The ones the keep helping the Celtics win are certainly biased (see Tatum’s game winner which was clearly a travel - confirmed by the NBA the next day). 😁

Embiid sick and doutbful for tonight's game

is he actually just tanking his way out of Philadelphia?
At this very moment in time, I think the majority of teams that could be interested in him and his contract as underwater. I imagine somebody would trade for him assuming positive value, but I genuinely don't know who it would be or what kind of positive value they would give.

I think Golden State with something Wiggins, Kuminga, Looney and flotsam with some draft capital (GSW has some decent picks) would be realistic. Or Miami with something like Bam, Robinson, and picks... I think I actually really like that if the Philly/Embiid relationship goes down the toilet.

Golden State owes a 2030 first to Washington (top 20 protected). They don't have any additional firsts so they could offer their own 2026 and 2028 or their 2025 and 2027. Not very exciting picks, except maybe the 2028?

Yeah, I think other teams have more to offer. Going to take more than two firsts and cap filler

How about Julius Randle, DDV, and a couple firsts?

Embiid looked beyond cooked for Team USA this summer. Haven't actually caught any sixers games when he's played this year, has he looked any better?

ESPN showed a montage of his first game back vs NY where he looked like he wasn’t even trying. He was more active/engaged in his second game.

Do they have any tradable firsts?

No idea. I was just joking since Frosty has been trying to undo the KAT trade.

They actually have Detroit's 2025 first to trade if they so wanted. It's protected 1-13 this year, 1-11 in 2026 , then 1-9 in 2027

The new realgm format is impossible to read for me

Well not any more.

I don’t think they could trade that until the draft, right? Because they don’t have another first this year or next year

Curry starting to heat up in the 3rd.

Also the Clippers announcing crew is horrible. Why do the Clippers exist? Send them back to Buffalo.

For the Blazer and Magic fans in here. The Ringer giving them some love:

Magic defense is a headache but they simply can't keep shooting worst in the league and expect to win when it matters.

I hadn't heard the rumor about Lavine to Orlando. I'm not totally on board with that but I also have no say in the matter.
Anfernee Simons would be a much better trade for them. Lavine is the slightly better player but Simons is on a better contract now, fits the rest of the Magic's timeline, and has more traditional PG skills to fit their roster better. It would probably take a first rounder and for the trade to be made a three way with KCP going to a third team and the resulting minor assets to the Blazers (Lakers for like a couple seconds and Russell? Bucks for some draft equity and some of their trash? Sixers if they could make the money work?).
They’re not trading for either. Both terrible defensive players.
They sure are. But where are they going to find a two way guard that can actually be responsible for driving some good offense and shoot the ball from deep? How many of those players are there in the NBA? How many have there been in the last 20 years?

At some point between now and next season, they'll end up trading for a guard that is a long term solution next to Suggs. I through out the list of legit SGs a couple pages ago when I was making my point about Braun. The list of good PGs is deeper, but the list of two way PGs basically starts and ends with SGA - so if they went PG over SG, there are no choices that wouldn't hurt their defense.
Anthony Black is going to be that long term player next to Suggs.
I don't watch much Magic basketball, but is he really a long term solution on a team that is more or less set at the other 4 positions and desperately needs some shooting and creation from the 2?

Yea I think he is. Especially on the shot creation part. I’m actually not sure KCP is starting by the second half of the year.

LeBron has a triple-double in 4 consecutive games - a career first for him in his 22nd season.
I looked up his mvp odds last night. He’s +10000…a 10 dollar bet pays over a grand. Not saying he’s the favorite but that shocked me.
Bill Simmons doesn’t even have him in his top ten.

I watch a decent enough basketball (including most of the Olympic Games over the summer) and I don’t get it. He still seems like one of the league’s best on any given night.
Neither does Basketball Reference. For now, they have it as Jokic and a bunch of other people to round out the Top 10. They have Lebron 29th in WS, 43rd in WS/48, 55th in TS%, 12th in VORP, and 15th in PER. He's having a strong season so far, but so are a lot of other players (including some on teams that will likely finish higher than the Lakers).

AD is the MVP of the Lakers anyway. Gonna be a good race I think. Looking like 10 deep.

Jokic, SGA, Tatum, Luka, Mitchell, AD, Giannis, Brunson, Ant

Cool, so even Curry is a troll now.

I guess when you rely on an 70's style enforcer to win games and your coach is a self important blowhard your class level will just naturally drop.

Dude, let it go.
I mean teammate or not, it's absolutely ridiculous to act like Draymond is anything but a bully. Unbelievable that the league doesn't have a significantly more meaningful punishment for him by now.

Sure, not right, and it's been that way for a while. Constantly complaining about the Warriors in this thread though...

Sorry my obsession is getting in the way of...well....why do you care?

And Curry's vid is from like yesterday. If the Warriors and their ilk don't won't people commenting, maybe they should drop it first?

Biggest expected topic of discussion at the IST in Vegas is if they add Seattle/Vegas teams, who gets to move to the East? Memphis, Dallas, OKC, New Orleans, and Minnesota likely to make strongest pushes.

I believe Memphis and one of NO/MIN makes most sense travel wise?

But Dallas...if we're just gonna make things like OKC in the Northwest we should put Dallas in the Philly/NY division. Then we can hate their bball times like their football teams.

Would we expect 8 4-team divisions in this scenario?

I'd assume but idk

I guess other reasonable option four 8-team ones?
