2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (23 Viewers)

What's this about Charlotte challenging the recinded deal? They don't seem skeevy enough already trying to pass damaged goods, so double down?
Im guessing Charlotte is saying they told the Lakers about the injury and gave them sufficient information to evaluate it and the physical didn't show anything different than what was already disclosed. I heard speculation (purely speculation, no real information) from somebody on a podcast (Nate Duncan?) that maybe the medical team wasn't involved until after the trade and immediately threw up red flags.

These are not Jerry Sloan's Jazz.
That has to be a tough team to root for. They obviously don't care one bit about winning, but Ainge is too obsessed with winning every trade in a landslide to deal off some of their veterans. The picks they have coming to them in the future from the Lakers and the swaps they have with Cleveland and Minnesota don't look very valuable any longer. I guess they can deal off Markkannen in the offseason but his production is down a bit too so they probably missed their best chance to deal him last year.

That’s some James Dolan level BS
Makes one wonder if they really are just trying to destroy the fan base.

Isn't that the tinfoil hat theory? That the Addelson's wanted to build a big casino with an arena for the basketball team in the DFW area, but that's never happening in Texas because of - reasons - and so what they are doing now is destroying the team, embittering the fans and creating such an ill-will that they are able to move the team to Vegas where they live and create their dream arena/casino there.

Dallas then gets an expansion team and starts over with Cuban as the owner.

That roster is really bereft of talent. It looks like Markkannen, Clarkson, and a bunch of career G leaguers. It's funny, on the Laker fan boards, they've been whining for a trade that brings Kessler over. Watching last night I can't really understand why, but the rumor is Ainge wants 2 firsts for him. :loco:

Do you think James Dolan does this type of stuff to destroy the fan base? Or is there some other reason he does it?
I think there are a lot of other reasons Dolan does what he does. He has no care for the fans of his team.

I'm still super depressed every time I see something here, or on reddit, or a score of a game.

I honestly don't know what to do. It's not remotely the same as like KD leaving as a free agent because the actual team is the entity that completely screwed us.

I think I've only got three paths.
1. Just stop following the NBA
2. I'm changing jobs soon anyway, go work in the NBA again and regain my dispassion for all teams and passion for the game itself
3. Root for a different team

It's that bad. Like I just didn't want to go last night. Didn't watch. Don't care. **** these guys. I've actually been clinically depressed, many many years ago, and it's remarkable how much I feel like that now about the Mavs.

Maybe just take a break from the NBA for the rest of the regular season and dip your toes back in come playoff time? I know it sucks but you can only control what you can control and that's how you react to the horrible news and the subsequent injury. Probably not in danger of usurping a therapist's job anytime soon, but continuing to dwell on the dire situation of the team you cheer for is only going to make you more miserable and lead you into deep depression.

Spring is coming - super early in Texas compared to other places. Enjoy some good weather, pick up a new hobby, spend time with the fam, go rescue a dog that needs a good home, keep that dog away from pacifiers, etc but leave the sports page untouched, turn off The Ticket and ESPN and just try and find some joy in other areas of life right now. Let some time heal some wounds and you might feel differently in April after a break.

With Dolan it’s because he’s an overly sensitive *******.

Mark Cuban sold his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks to the Adelson and Dumont families for $3.5 billion in December 2023.

Wonder if he could buy it back for 2.5 now

Reading that he retained a 27.5% stake in ownership, so he's still got a nice slug of the team. Wonder if he wants to let the rest go now?

I think he's gearing up for a political run, personally. :NoPolitics:

Patrick Dumont married into the Adelson family 15 years ago and seems to be running the show as to both the Sands Corp and the Mavs. He reportedly was the ultimate decision-maker on the Doncic trade. Whatever his plan is, I expect he's in for the long term.

I said it tongue and cheek. No one is buying a sports team and 15 months later selling it for a 30 percent loss. It isnt the movie Major League.

Have to admit though that some of these Maverick moves are pretty Major League inspired.....seemingly.

Dillon Brooks would surely welcome you aboard to the team a few hours South

You joke but I went to elementary school in Houston and still find myself rooting for the Astros over the rangers because I played baseball alllllllll the time at that age.

How are the 76ers so bad with Maxey, Embid, and PG13. Asking for a friend who might have parley for them to win along with the NYK.

Honestly they kind of got a little something going when it was just Maxey and the role players. They had finally figured out how to move the ball pretty well and were aggressive on defense. Now a 60% Embiid comes back and has to be the focal point of everything and pg is playing with a torn tendon in his finger and everything this discombobulated

I ain’t even gonna lie man, Mavs fans can’t come back from this. It’s one thing when a guy leaves in free agency, you can see that coming and prepare for it even if it sucks. And usually if they leave it’s because of money or the team was built poorly and you can fault the team as well as the player. Here’s, it’s just a trade of a megastar in the middle of the night for no reason. You can never trust the team again. And even if they fire the GM (and they will) the owner had to sign off on it. No thanks.

Like Ruth from the Yankees to the Red Sox. 100 year curse coming.

These are the same people that have been rooting for the Cowboys for the last 30 years, of course they’ll come back.

Just join us on the Nuggets bandwagon. I already predicted Luka leaves the Lakers at the end of his contract to join his buddy Jokic for the rest of their playing days. Get in early!

Yeah, this meme is outdated for sure. Cowboys haven't been relevant in 30 years. Yankees and Lakers have at least won something this century. Swap Cowboys for Chiefs here if you want the jokes to land with this generation. Nobody who has a full head of non-gray hair understands this joke anymore.
