2024-25 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the team does” sad Heat fan says to giant pile of cocaine (26 Viewers)

Some media person said something to Tari Eason post game about people not believing in the Rockets since they have so many young guys without lots of playoff experience. His response:

“People hated Jesus, too.”

 Awesome quote.

Yep. Even as a homer I don't give them much of a chance to get past the first round as teams like GS and LAL are coming on with key acquisitions and veteran leadership. However, if Jalen Green can continue with his string of consistent production, they will be a problem. Currently on an 8 game win streak without one of their best players. Unfortunately, Jalen always seems to disappear in big moments. Hope he change that or it may be the last year we see him in Houston.

Can’t wait for the new owner syndrome to kick in with a trade of Jrue Holiday, Derrick White and Jaylen Brown (and picks) for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal.

Lakers basically deciding not to play in back to backs. Here is who is active tonight vs the Bucks (assuming DFS and Vando miss since they’re doubtful).

Jaxson Hayes
Gabe Vincent
Dalton Knecht
Jordan Goodwin (two-way)
Trey Jemison III (two-way)
Christian Koloko (two-way)
Shake Milton
Markieff Morris
Bronny James
Alex Len
Cam Reddish

 holy crap that's an insane amount.
I am a numbers guy and follow the business side of sports as a hobby.

I can’t figure this out for the life of me. The Celts don’t own or operate their own arena, which is where a significant amount of revenue usually comes from for the rich teams.

The NBA must be drowning in money for this number to make sense.

True they do not own their arena. The arena is 30 years old, so I wonder if something new is on the horizon. The team does have a 20% stake in NBC Boston

Sportico estimates the Celtics’ net revenue after playoff and regular season revenue sharing at $465 million.

Good question. According to this though: "Forbes" list of most valuable sports teams of 2024

19. Boston Celtics - $6 billion

I think this is their 6th game in 8 days, something like that. Residual effect of moving a game from during the wildfires is l believe.

I like the 3-6 matchups in the east. Almost assuredly Knicks at 3. The 4/5/6 is still a tossup, but ideally we see a Knicks/Pistons and Buck/Pacers first round series. Those seem fun

Bulls beat Bulls-West in Sacramento tonight.

Coby White unconscious in the 2nd half with 31 points. Huerter goes 25-5-7 with 5 threes. Lavine was absolutely putrid for the Kings. At least it's not the Bulls with a miserable to watch iso-ball ball stopping garbage offense based around to a now 35 year old Derozan. I'll never in a million years understand the Kings signing Derozan as a starting player. Made absolutely zero sense. Zero upside because he's not capable of being a complimentary player and can't defend. Should be a 6th man at this stage. Sad how quickly Kings fell off.

People everywhere, and definitely in this thread, were acting like he was a make a wish kid and he may end up being a rotational nba player after all. Incredible.

You mean Tatum for Anthony Davis and a pick?

Derozan was great and one of the main reasons they beat the Cavs the night before. Really disappointed to see the Kings rip off a couple wins against the Grizzlies and Cavs only to lose to the Bulls, even if it was a B2B.

Speaking of Derozan, I was rather shocked to see he's only scored 112 fewer points that Steph for his career. Figured the difference would be way bigger.

Agree. A lot of people seem to forget that we don’t get go control who our parents are. The kid had a heart attack and came back to dominate in the G league and has shown a couple flashes in the NBA.
The crap he got for having the nerve to almost die is what annoyed me.

There's a reason DeRozan doesnt/didn't have a market for big money around the league.

Kings get to be a .500 team with DeRozan & Lavine for the foreseeable future. Old and average. Not good enough to be any threat whatsoever. Not bad enough to be in on premium draft talent. Worst spot to be in in sports.

Not from anyone in here I hope.

The internet is a dark place in general..... BUT he has put himself out there and made millions off of it, so the tradeoff of the fame and wealth is the hate.

Can't have your cake and eat it too. If dad helps you get a job, you will take heat from people who have never had such opportunities. Don't act like he pulled himself up by his bootstraps and grinded it out in the Euroleagues before getting his shot.

My real opinion on Bronny at this point (all BOS/LAL, anti-Bron schtick aside) is this:

Basketball-wise he is neutral as an end of bench guy, which is a heck of an achievement. But marketing wise he is a home run, so the LAL would be nuts not to have him hang around.

Kid has been handed a lot, but he didn't fumble the football, so good for him.

No, the worst place to be in sports is perpetually winning 17-33 games a year for 15 years. I don't love the Kings' current roster construction but I'll take being able to go and see a competitive game on a given night to trading Sabonis for 2 late firsts and praying for lottery balls for the next 5 years. The bar is on the floor for this franchise.

I reject that conventional wisdom in the context of my Kings-fandom. I want to be able to watch entertaining and competitive basketball. Full stop.

Or......

It's not the worst thing in the world to be a super young team on the come that's moving out of really bad and heading towards really good. You want the young bucks to learn how to win. They have to at some point.

Weirdo behavior. You keep mockingly mention how he’s underprivileged and disrespected like it’s his fault who his dad is. Hating somebody for that while he could be on the coast of some tropical country but instead he worked his way to possibly an NBA rotation is bizarre.

Same weird behavior when you come in here claiming he has arrived because he had one acceptable NBA game. He is only in because of who is dad is, not because what he has done.

There are quite a few sons of former NBA players that have played in the league and most (maybe all) got drafted on merit in college, signed as an undrafted free agent and worked their way into the league. If Bronny had anyone else for a father he would still be riding the pine in college. Sorry if that rubs me the wrong way, but it would if he was a mailman, dentist, or police officer too.

Here’s the Bronny update you were all anxiously awaiting.

Career highs in points (17), assists (5), and minutes (30) on 7-10 shooting.

Oh yeah, he was also -36 on the night.
He had a good game last night. I was encouraged by what I saw. The only real missteps were a couple of failed attempts to get fancy with the dibble, going between the legs when he didn't need to, having the ball hit his feet for turnovers. If he can keep improving the way he has over the course of this season for the next couple of years, he'll be a useful player in the league. Regardless, he looked like he belonged out there, and he wasn't playing against scrubs during garbage time.

If Bronny had anyone else for a father he would still be riding the pine in college.
That’s quite the hyperbole. He was a top recruit coming out of high school (yeah, some of that was fame but he wouldn’t have been rated as high if he didn’t have the skill set and HS performance to warrant it), whose only college season was derailed because of a serious heart issue. If he was still at USC this year with anywhere near the development he’s shown this year, he’d for sure be talked about as a first rounder in the upcoming draft.
