  • When Lisa Saulters (spelling? don't give a ****, **** her) got on the dais, the entire crowd booed for a solid 15 seconds. When she got back on the mic to introduce Kroenke, she got booed again. Fantastic.

what happened to make Denver fans hate Lisa freaking Salters?

they booed her for admitting that she hadn't worked any Denver games and didn't know how good he was??
Your job for 20 years is as an NBA sideline reporter and you say "This is really the first time I've had a chance to watch him play, and I got to admit, I've been sleeping on this guy" about someone who's already been a 2-time MVP under your watch

Yeah. That's pretty stupid and she deserves what she got.
she's a sideline reporter. her job is to study and report on the teams that she is reporting on that night.

and she appears for all of 30 seconds per game. hell, she even admitted that she hadn't watched him until now but that he's awesome.

and for this Denver fans booed her? classy!

eta: maybe i'd understand if she went on a radio show and said "i've never watched Jokic play but i just don't think hes any good and Denver doesn't stand a chance". then, i get it. sure. but her job is to study for the games she's working... not the ones she isn't... and she even said now that she has seen him he's an amazing player. she offered no critique.

sheesh, you guys maybe aren't the best representatives of Denver fan but given that those in the arena booed her for a compliment on the Rich Eisen show.. maybe you are??

If you don't live here I don't expect you to understand it. But this team has been one of the best in the NBA all season and has been widely disrespected by the national media. As far as her being a "sideline" reporter, Lisa Salters does a lot more than that with ESPN. But even if that were the case, it's her JOB to be knowledgeable about the teams/players. She CHOOSES to be ignorant. That's on her. And that's why the Denver fans took her comments as a slight. You asked why. I gave you the answer. You don't have to agree with them but now you know the why.

Helps to keep in mind - crowds of sports fans, generally speaking, are complete idiots.
no I'm not. the other guy is though

Whining about random reporters that overlook you after you win the title is lame. You won the title, you proved them wrong. Be happy.

Who's whining? Apparently some fans booed her. I didn't even notice that. First time I discussed this was when someone ELSE asked about it. In the future I won't bother trying to be helpful. FFS.

Take it personally. The fans booing her and you saying if you don't live here you don't understand. Sounds like whinning.

People are wrong on their predictions all the time, they don't owe anyone anything when they are proven wrong. You are the champs, no one can take it away. Enjoy it.

Extremely petty yes but also hilarious

Fair.

getting mad at lisa salters for something so inanely inocuous is pretty dumb but logging on to the internet and spending energy defending people booing her is really really really dumb take that to the bank brochachos
Only to be outdone by all the people logging on to the internet and spending energy elaborately criticizing people who defend people who booed

Truth is, as an NBA fan, it would be hard to Root against the Nuggets unless they were playing your team. 40 year drought, solid guys, a second round MVP, etc. As a Heat fan I am Happy for the Nuggets (sure, I'd rather then legend of Spo, Riley, Jimmy Buckets etc be etched in a championship banner, but if we can't have it I'm happy the Denver fans got it).

If the Heat lost to the celts last round, or the lakers or Warriors etc I'd be really annoyed. Losing to a classy team who were due is nothing to be sad about.

super hard to find reasons to root against Denver, for sure.

months ago i figured the Bucks only competition was Denver and then Jimmy Butler went @Nucular George on us

i'm going to miss this thread

when does the 23-24 thread start?
Probably in a few days. I always leave it open for people to conclude arguing about whatever dumb thing they are currently on.

Seems pretty mild right now though.

Just before the draft seems about the right time. Lots of proposed trades out there for picks 2-4.

If Boston or LAL won I doubt it'd be this mild. I think everyone is happy except Denver fans who hate Lisa Saulter.

I can see why Denver fans were giving her hell. It's your job to cover the NBA especially a 2x MVP on a team with the best record in the league. This felt a lot to me like back in the Clutch City days when the world was finally waking up and giving Hakeem his flowers even though he's been playing at a high level for a decade.
Seems super petty.

But not unexpected nowadays

Also think she should be better prepared for her job.

Can I hate them for being loaded with ex-Pistons?

Two of those ex Pistons don't even play, the other two are like their 5th and 7th best players.

really wish that the ABC/ESPN sports machine would ease up on trying to sell their stars a little. at least in a moment like this one.

sure, you have to push the marquee players. make sure people buy the product, follow the player, etc. but can we just celebrate the entire organization and the contributions of the other players that also played a part instead of asking each one of them why Jokic won the title all by himself?

"Aaron, great to see you here! congratulations for getting to play with Jokic! can you talk about why you wouldn't be here without him??"

"Jamal, 20 and 10 for the series but you were outplayed by maybe the greatest player in franchise history. can you tell us why you aren't as good as Nikola??"

"coach Malone, terrific victory for Nikola tonight and without him nobody would know your name. can you talk about what impact Jokic has had on your life and legacy"?
You realize that Lisa Salters is the main one posing these insipid questions to the players right? Any fan base is going to jump on a national TV personality saying they've never watched a 2 time MVP.

It isn't as bad as an NBA finals commentator "forgetting" about Jokic in their MVP voting, but it's pretty damn close.

if Lisa Smelters isn't fired and banished to one of the former Soviet republics, we ride at dawn!!

Awfully odd to draw the line of where it is reasonable to complain about ESPN at one person.

You complain about sideline reporters and then ridicule people for complaining about a particular one. What a joke.

As much as I hated him on the Celtics and as an announcer, I really enjoyed the Bill Walton 30/30. He was before my time so I never appreciated how dominant he was before the injuries. I also never realized how political he was at UCLA. He was running with some serious folks back then....and if you like The Grateful Dead, you'll appreciate the doc as "Grateful Red "was a huge fan.

amazing how you've created this scenario that doesn't exist and are so mad about it

Clippers should probably be looking to shed some salary with their gazillion dollar tax bill and all the new CBA restrictions.

Time for my first unrealistic Lakers trades. (Maybe I should wait for the new thread but alas)

Option 1 - immediate savings

Lakers give Mo Bamba - $10.3M all non-guaranteed before 6/29

Clippers give Robert Covington - $11.6M for 23/24 (expiring) and out of rotation - probably saved 4 or 5 times that in tax

Not sure if anything else needs to be included to grease the wheels.

Option 2 - longer term savings

Lakers give Malik Beasley - $16.5M team option for 23/24

Clippers give Norm Powell - due $18.0/$19.2/$20.5M over the next 3 years

Can’t imagine the Lakers taking on this much salary going forward, but they could if Clippers throw in this year’s #30 (which they’ve been rumored to do to shed salary)
