2024 Arizona Cardinals Thread (2 Viewers)

I saw a stat somewhere about how his teams have finished the season losing 4 out of 6 or 5 of 7, or worse,  in every year since  2014 ( college and pro).

I can't believe Kyler Murray has hardly been talked about.  Here, national media.... just largely a pass.

That was THE WORST qb playoff game I've ever seen.  He just dethroned Scott Mitchell's Eagles game, which was painful.

Just drafted Eno Benjamin in the 23rd round of a startup SF best ball dynasty. IF the Cardinals don't resign both of Conner/Edmonds do Cards fans think he'd be in line for maybe the 3rd down role? From what little I've seen him on the field he has looked pretty solid.

I hate to say "it depends," but it depends. I agree he's looked good and has some pop. But, the offense struggled so much down the stretch, I wouldn't put it past them to draft a WR and RB fairly early this year to get some new blood in. If they don't draft an RB, then sure, Eno is set up pretty nicely.

Good points Kutta but you'd think they have bigger needs than drafting a RB on day one or day two but we'll know in a few months! :)

You would think...

But I think that this team's identity is the offense - Kliff's system and Kyler. It's not working, so I just have to believe they are going to try put some pop into it during the draft. It will be interesting to see what happens.

The Arizona Republic confirms Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill is "very, very upset" with the team's fade down the stretch this season.

We have gotten into a "he said/he said" with former team employee Kyle Odegard's report that the "(bleep) hit the fan" during a meeting between Bidwill, GM Steve Keim and coach Kliff Kingsbury, but it's probably just semantics. Whether or not a meeting went down the technical way Odegard reported, clearly something is rotten in Denmark in Arizona. Kingsbury's teams have imploded in embarrassing fashion each of the past two years. Keim, meanwhile, continues to hold on longer than 99 percent of the GMs with his draft record. We wouldn't close the door just yet on changes coming to the desert.

Cardinals agreed to a contract extension with general manager Steve Keim.

Keim has served as the Cardinals general manager since 2013 after spending 14 seasons in the Cardinals front office. He is now under contract through 2027, after the Cardinals made their first playoff appearance since 2015. With his own contract taken care of, Keim will now need to turn his attention to his disgruntled fourth-year quarterback. Kyler Murray remains under his rookie contract in 2022 with a fifth-year option available for 2023. But the Cardinals franchise quarterback has made it clear that he's looking for a contract extension. Murray tailed off to close 2021 but was outstanding to begin the season, before being slowed by an ankle injury. Keim also has decisions to make regarding Murray's surrounding cast, with Christian Kirk, A.J. Green, Chase Edmonds, and James Conner all about to hit free agency.

Cardinals agreed to a contract extension with head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Owner Michael Bidwill was reportedly "very, very upset" with the Cardinals fade down the stretch of the 2021 season, but he seems to have gotten over it very, very quickly. Both Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim are now under contract through 2027. Kyler Murray remains on strained terms with the franchise and Arizona's franchise quarterback will ultimately have the biggest impact on the Cardinals 2022 season. Kingsbury, as the league's preeminent fake sharp, has benefited enormously from starting his NFL head coaching career alongside Murray. Although to be fair, Kinsbury does deserve credit for guiding the Cardinals to their first playoff berth since 2015 with Kyler Murray missing three games. Getting Murray a contract extension should be the Cardinals' next order of business.

Love this.

Get a big upgrade from Kirk   Under team control for 2 years.  Given talent/cost of WRs a steal to get him for #23 AND get a 3rd rounder back. Rondale gets to play a more complimentary role he's suited for.

A+
Is he a big upgrade though?   Lots of drops and you know his current contact doesn't mean anything.

Yep. Will be nice to have a legit deep threat. Khan can enjoy Kirk 👍

Love the value here given the WR landscape.

This is what we could be looking at for the QB & WRs for the Cardinals in week 4.

Cardinals fired OL coach/run game coordinator Sean Kugler.

Kliff Kingsbury told reporters that they relieved Kugler of his duties after "an incident" in Mexico City on Saturday night. They sent him home before the game. Kugler's run offense was one of the highs of the early Kingsbury era, but Arizona has struggled to run the ball the last two years and is down four of its five starting offensive linemen at this point. It's hard to understand if this will lead to any real changes without understanding the nature of the incident, but the 4-7 Cardinals clearly are in need of some adjustments.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cardinals GM Steve Keim is taking an "indefinite health-related leave of absence."

Rapoport added, "Keim’s duties are being handled on an interim basis by VP of Player Personnel Quentin Harris and VP of Pro Personnel Adrian Wilson." Depending on the length of time he is away and the severity of Keim's health issue, it wouldn't be shocking for the Cardinals' boss to step away from the team permanently. Between the news of Keim's health concern and the on-field disaster that has been the Cardinals, this season could not have gone much worse for the Arizona franchise. The Cardinals are 4-9 and will play out the remainder of the season without Kyler Murray, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 14. Keim's record as the team's general manager currently sits at 80-76-2. It may ultimately end there depending on how this indefinite absence plays out.

CBS' Jonathan Jones reports the "prevailing thought around the league" is that the Cardinals will move on from GM Steve Keim.

The health-related leave-of-absence to incidental firing has happened before, as the Texans used this playbook to get rid of Rick Smith. Keim's rosters are far from unimpeachable and he deserves a lot of blame for the state of the franchise. However, Keim was owner Michael Bidwill's main protege, so this is not set in stone yet. VPs Quentin Harris and Adrian Wilson are currently co-GMing the Cardinals and Jones' sources believe both of them are expected to be in consideration for the full-time role the event Keim is not retained.

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said he is not considering walking away from the Cardinals at the end of the season.

A report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler suggested Kingsbury could quit his head coaching gig after being "miserable" throughout the 2022 season. Fowler's sources describe the Cardinals' locker room as toxic. Kingsbury told reporters he had not seen the reporter but shot down the idea of simply quitting. Even if he doesn't voluntarily leave, Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell, who is currently without a general manager, could reset things by firing Kingsbury.

Cardinals hired Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon as their head coach.

Return of Gannon. After telling reporters following the NFC Championship game that he'd be back in Philadelphia, late-charging interest from the Cardinals after the Super Bowl lands him in the desert. We'll have to see who the Cardinals hook on with as an offensive coordinator before we can understand the fantasy impact on Arizona's best players, but this looks likely to be a mulligan year with Kyler Murray coming back from a late-season ACL tear. The Cardinals not feeling strongly enough about Murray to tie in someone who would specifically be about getting him back to square one is interesting. Gannon coordinated the Eagles defense for the last two seasons and oversaw major improvement in 2022 (yes, even if the Super Bowl wasn't pretty) -- the Cardinals defense was extremely aggressive last year and Gannon could bring some upheaval in 2023.

What a disaster this is going to be. The head coach looks like a whacko and then he followed that up by hiring some fantastic assistants!

Former Cardinals executive Terry McDonough brought an NFL arbitration claim against Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill for "gross misconduct, including cheating, discrimination, and harassment."

McDonough claims that his career opportunities dried up after he and then-Cardinals coach Steve Wilks objected to going along with a scheme to communicate with former Cardinals GM Steve Keim, then on a league suspension for DUI, via burner phones. He also claims that Bidwill "created an environment of fear for minority employees" and "reduced two pregnant women ... to tears after screaming at them with 'abusive and bullying mistreatment.'" The Cardinals responded to the arbitration claim in a statement calling it "wildly false, reckless, and an opportunistic ploy for financial gain."

A follow-up report from Pauline states Ohio State's Paris Johnson Jr. is the potential target.

Latest- The Cardinals are getting calls from teams who want to move to #3 then take one of the offensive lineman. Did not hear which OT is being targeted.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports the Cardinals are "mulling trade offers from multiple teams" interested in trading for the No. 3 overall pick.

The Cardinals continue to be a popular candidate to trade back on draft day, as several teams could swarm for their No. 3 pick if Bryce Young is the only quarterback off the board when they're on the clock. With arguably one of the worst rosters in the league, Arizona would be wise to consider a trade that could fetch them multiple picks in return. Head coach Jonathan Gannon will spend most of his first season rebuilding a team that finished 21st in points per game (20.0) and 31st in points allowed per game (26.4) and is likely headed for another top-five pick in 2024. Any high-end picks that can be acquired early in the rebuild should expedite the process and move the Cardinals into more competitive territory.

Cardinals trade the 2023 first round pick (3) and their fourth round pick (105) to the Texans for the Texans first round pick (12), the Texans second round pick (33) and the Texans 2024 first and third round picks.
